Re: How do you stop the drop step?
Dont try to block it. Contest hold, intense D and push d stick opposite direction as offensive player. Sometimes there's nothing you can do because the move is OP. It depends on your defenders strength and low post Defense as well.

when having a Good defender just stand your ground and contest (without trying to Block). Bad defenders get exposed from Good post Players with the dropstep, like. it should be. In real life thats the go to move if you have a miss Match in the Post.Comment

If you shade too far to the side, then they will get the animation where they push both hands with the ball into your chest and you will get pushed back
I promise you there is a middle ground between this animation and the one where you get absolutely bodied.
IMO the post moves when they still have their dribble are more powerful.
Honestly the hardest part of defending the move is immediately after they use their dribble your (defending) player seems to have crazy freedom of movement. I usually give up the dropstep because after it I try to move into them to body them up and defend, but end up moving way too the side allowing a layup

I disagree. There arent 10 legit post playerd in the NBA today. Players like Ben Simmons and Alex Len shouldnt be able to dropstep at will and score on the box..

Re: How do you stop the drop step?
Was glad to see no responses claiming "guys just gotta get their skills up" or "git gud" and the like...Most skilled players can absolutely KILL people with the DS. I can use it with Embiid or Simmons in the post to lethal effect. In 90% of instances the defender gets pushed off his spot. There really isn't an established way to defend it. Its VERY OP. I can threaten it early and then use other counters at will because guys have to be afraid of it.
IMO it should kill mismatches but the lack of balance re: the DS exposes how much shot contesting needs to improve. A good shot contest (esp the hands up variety) should generate more difficult shot outcomes, the Hands Up Contain and should also have instances where the offensive player commits an offensive foul on the set defender.
Single Outcomes are bad and the DS is the classic example of one.Last edited by Kushmir; 05-28-2019, 06:14 PM.NOTE: Any and ALL of my suggestions are specifically and only related to Play Now Online.Comment

If you know its coming with a similar sized player there should be a way to guard it. imoWas glad to see no responses claiming "guys just gotta get their skills up" or "git gud" and the like...Most skilled players can absolutely KILL people with the DS. How do you stop the drop step?
Imo, the real question is, after you stop it how do you keep 2k for just randomly moving you out of the way for an easy layup?
I’ve found that after someone has lost their dribble in the paint, it’s best to keep your hands down. Otherwise you’ll be moved out of defensive position, the exact opposite of what should happen.
You get sucked in on screens, but when someone loses their dribble in the paint, you get moved out of the way. SMH

In the vid it looked like the 2nd defender helped stop it but then the guy just kicked it out.
I like to call for a double team (RB i think) and then control the rotation. Figure out who you want to leave open and use that guy's defender to "help the helper". Just an idea.Comment

Re: How do you stop the drop step?
I'm not a fan of doubling. The approach I would take is to change the focus to the post player to nothing inside and play it straight up with hands up defense away from the offensive player.Last edited by Coach2K; 05-29-2019, 01:53 AM.For MyNBA, MyLeague & MyGM content, follow Coach2K on X by clicking here.

Re: How do you stop the drop step?
To add to what other people have said....
In situations where the post player is backing down before drop stepping, consider trying to pull the chair while he's backing down; putting him on his butt a time or two should make him have to either change his initial move(s), or work to get much deeper before initiating the post play.Comment

Re: How do you stop the drop step?
Post play in 2K is so poorly modeled because there is no way for the defender to offer resistance. In real life the best post defenders are strong (gasol, draymond with his low leverage) every post defender in 2k gets moved easily in 2K.
Also the interior layup animations slide defenders out of the way far too often to allow the animations to play out. Needs to be addressedComment

Re: How do you stop the drop step?
They need to add a real practice mode so you can simulate stuff like this.
To make a quick comparison I recently picked up MK11 and as a new fighting game player and I'm blown away how in depth their practice mode is. You go up against a CPU dummy and you can adjust its settings to simulate all sort of situations that you can go up against in a real online match.
I recently just played against some dude who was abusing this post animation where he would push me with one arm and get a wide open standing dunk. I couldn't do a damn thing to stop it except throw double teams and force him to not get the ball and this is with defenders with near max interior defense attributes.
If they had some sort of situational practice mode players could hop into the lab and figure out how to defend against crap like that, the dropstep and the post spin cheese.Comment

Re: How do you stop the drop step?
Im the guy that does the drop step everytime and dunks right over you. If you especially dont have any type of defense in your build, im doing the shaq dunk on you everytime like your shawn bradley. I went up against other bigs that try to do the drop step on me also but i know how to counter it. It all comes down to if you know how to defend well or notComment
