2K Issues Statement For Ads Appearing in NBA 2K21

Yesterday, 2K ran a 15 second unskippable Oculus Quest 2 ad (h/t Stevivor), ahead of the...

Re: NBA 2K21 Quietly Adds Unskippable Ads

Honestly 2k is starting to deviate a lot from the things I enjoyed about them and are hardly any different than the things we previously criticized EA sports for

There are constant ads for coins or player card packs to now additional advertisements.

Most of us are already paying 60 dollars or more on an annual basis for a game thats full of micro transactions. I don’t even play the game modes that use the transactions, but I’m still forced to exit out of or view these advertisements when I launch the game

I’m glad they are getting rightfully called out for this type of behavior

I was playing this morning and I didn't see it. Is it just the ad running during what would normally be the 2K TV stuff and you continue once the game loads, or is it really like an unstoppable ad?

I don't have the game. But the article makes it seem like it's during loading screens. I don't have a problem with that. As long as it doesn't run longer than the load screen it's cool

I won't buy a game that costs more than 60 dollars (almost 80 if you live in Canada) only to forced to watch ads. Not at any point of the game. So, I'll be playing completely offline, and if that doesn't do it, I'll be continuing to play 2K14 with mods. These companies have to remember, they stopped having valid reasons to release a new game about 5 years ago. Nobody NEEDS the newest game. Older ones, especially with rosters, work just as well. Often, as with 2K14, even better than the current game. Yeah, it's just me and my money, but I have never met a person that enjoys sports video games that bought an NHL game after about 2014. It DOES make a difference to stop buying games.

Hate to bust your bubble, but you're in the minority. Most players buy the newest game every year, and only a handful of people will continue to play an older title.

They at least did it at the end of the year the last couple times. Barely a month into the game's cycle.

Well, you're not busting my bubble because I am under no illusion that my view is pervasive throughout all of gaming and because I have a life and therefore bigger concerns than this. Plus, where gaming is concerned I KNOW I'm in the minority in many many things. All I'm saying is I won't buy it, which is my prerogative, and that the large group of gamers I've spoken to online on different forums for over 20 years won't buy it either. That's all. It's just an opinion. That's still ok on a forum, right?

That's what it sounds like to me, too. In which case what's the difference really? I played a few games today and all I got was a 2K TV question about what MyTeam mode I play the most.

So the people who have accepted what modern gaming is, for better or worse, and still can enjoy it are what's wrong? Not you guys who apparently hate any and everything but still directly and indirectly support the product? Ok...
