If you turn all CPU/User defensive sliders to 100, will both teams play better D?

Much like today’s real NBA, defense is non existent in 2K21 next gen. How can I get teams to guard me better and me guard them better? Would turning up the defense sliders (currently I have them all at 50 except the first two contact shot frequencies at 60) help at all?

That could possibly work but what I think 2k needs to do is remaster 2k16. That game was the best in regards to playing defense of this 2k series.

I wish. Making contested shots can also be an issue in 2K21 so turning those sliders up may open up an entirely other issue of not making any shots. I just need defenders to clamp up on me and not leave wide open passing lanes so I can’t drive to the basket at will. Right now driving is too easy.

That’s because speed is broken in 2K21. Players are just too fast with the ball, and defenders are too slow. You’ll have to decrease the movement sliders for Speed and Acceleration with Ball (Max) to somewhere around 55-60. Also make sure to increase Speed/Accel without Ball (Min) to around 50-55, so that slower wings and bigs actually move like basketball players instead of moving in slow motion.

If it’s still too easy to trigger ankle break and/or blow-by animations on drives after fixing the movement sliders, then you’ll need to increase Lateral Quickness (fewer blow-by animations) and On Ball Defense (fewer ankle breaks) as well.

Good idea thanks. I increased lateral quickness and on ball defense to 90. Does that mean I won’t get any ankle breaks anymore? Didn’t think about the increase of speed and decrease of speed with ball. Will play with that.

Co-sign. I did this a few months ago and it completely changed the game for me. I can really only blow by the CPU with GOD level speed-ball handlers like Kyrie and Zach Lavine. Khris Middleton isn't blowing by anyone worth their salt unless I put together a few dribble moves.

To add I went ALL THE WAY down on with the ball movement sliders

I play with your sliders with some personal changes and I have lowered the ball speed value of all players by 13/14 points, I use the CelticLG roster and I still enjoy the game now

They won't play "better" D in the sense of actually making better decisions but it will just increase "sticking" to ballhandlers, contest percentages and stuff artificially.

So I did this AND have all defensive sliders (such as on ball defense and lateral quickness and defensive awareness and consistency) up to around 90 (except jump shot contesting as shots don’t go in enough as is) and I can STILL get around defenders but it’s helped a ton. Game feels far more like a real NBA game now and I need to use at least some tactic.

This needs to be adopted by every sim player.

If you were to put all the player movement sliders(I mean the player speed with/without ball and all those) on 50 that would negate the speed differences between bigs and smalls? Right?

Good question as I have no idea how that works

I completely forgot to mention that, at least the last time I played (months ago at this point), the Speed with Ball (Max) slider was broken and didn’t actually do anything if you set it lower. You had to actually edit the roster manually and do a universal decrease of the Speed w/ Ball attribute by about 10-15, and that would pretty much fix the broken “lol just run around the defender” problem.

If you set them all the same, they would be very close to the same speed on the court, yes. You would still notice a difference due to animation packages, dribble moves and explosiveness, general acceleration, etc.

but beating a defender is Not unrealistic at all. nba players beat their defender Most of the Times. help defense is what separates this game from Real Basketball. In real life its Hard to score from the drive All the time Not because of the onball defender Not letting anyone past but because of the defense collapsing on the drive after the Initial "blow by".

Wow. I wonder if it’s still broken? Running around defenders is still fairly easy and I went with the more aggressive 55 max / 60 min rating. But it feels less easy and more realistic.. unless that’s all in my head.

True but in the game it’s too easy. Would raising help defense work in this case? Does raising the figure mean more help defense happens or does it mean the help defense that does happen is just more effective?
