The Dunk Meter sucks.

If the timing of it made sense it would be a great new addition… the dunk meter green isnt at the jump, nor when the ball is actually dunked. It feels completely random, each dunk has its own timing which is impossible to predict.

Also, you barely get to enjoy it because youre focused on a stupid mini game, taking the excitement away of maybe the most exciting play in basketball.

Timing on jump shots make sense and the release window also makes sense, thats why it works. You can even shoot with the shot meter off and make shots.

But this dunk meter just sucks. Probably the worst thing about the game for me.

Edit: we should absolutely have the option to turn it off.

And as far as I know most of the contact dunk animations, plus flashy dunks, are tied to this meter.

I don't like it either. I play with Real FG% on and wish I didn't have to use the meter on dunks or alley-oops.

Good idea, poor execution IMO along with the alley oop meter. It's distracting placement and odd timing is what makes it frustrating for some.

Wouldnt mind it returning cleaned up. It's not the only way to get posters though, BTW

I like it. Gives us the option to dunk without it being automatic. The placement is an issue.

And Im still not sure what Im looking at with the oop meter.

Personally I never used it since I'm a defensive center BUT I absolutely love it when a slasher tries to dunk on me using the meter. Some nice contact physics animations occur whenever I get a block. I hope they keep it for next year since the meter dunk is optional now if the player wants to use it.

It's baffling that they didn't give us the option to turn it off at least offline. 2K is normally good about making settings optional so I'm surprised they're forcing us to use it. Also surprised it hasn't been patched in yet.

Never use it. Timing ruins the pleasure of dunking as you’re not even looking at the dunk. I way prefer the CPU deciding if my player can dunk at that given time.

But alley oops are competent ruined. They shouldn’t have matched it with the dunk meter. Alley oops are useless now.

The timing of the meter is way off and screws up my muscle memory.

Kinda like the lay up meter where the release is on the way up which makes no sense.

For alley oops it seems the mark is like a second after you caught the ball in the air.
Its later them im used to lol

At this point it should be optional.

Also anyone have an idea on how to practice this as the practice option in my career is gone…

This is pretty much my feeling as well. I like the direction but it wasnt executed super well. The timing feels so off, in comparison to the timing of almost everything else.

Also I am usually watching the meter far more closely than my player, so the actual dunks tend to be things enjoyed by everyone but me, because i dont even really see them happen. My eyes are glued to the meter for the timing.

If the timing of the dunk meter release was intuitive at all, then it would be cool to turn the meter off visually so we could actually see whats happening.

I wont even get into how bad it feels for standing dunks (because im probably going to make a separate thread about that, and how it could be improved).

Why are people complaining about not being able to turn it off? Just don't use it.
