    vertical slider

for those who are playing the game, have you noticed the players' leaping ability? i mean when they go for the rebound, it seems like they're flying... is it just me? which is why i adjusted the vertical slider to 5!!! i'm just annoyed with bigmen like zyd will jump so high for the board...

Not just you. I noticed this in the demo.

im just glad that im getting word that the slider actually works as far as the abnormal rebound heights are concerned.

Im predicting this will be one of those first things fixed in a patch.

One question: how does this slider setting effect the jumps of athletic players at the 2 and 3 spots ?
Would be a shame if they couldn't hustle for rebounds anymore because they lack the size of the big men and maybe cannot jump anymore with this slider setting.

I saw Jeff Hornacek dunk on me twice in the same game. And Jordan doesn't hang enough. Fixable?

No, the vertical slider does not effect anything, as far as I can tell. I turned it to zero, bigs are still at rim level. Turned it to "1", still the same. It doesn't seem to have any effect on jump shooting, lay up, or dunking either.

As far as the bigs skying for rebounds, Rob Jones has already said it's an animations issue. They captured the rebounding animations and use it for both the small and big players. It would look normal for a player that is say 6'5", but a 7' player head would be near rim level since the lift is the same for players of any height. Basically, this tells me the vertical ratings and slider are pretty much useless. The animations have already been predetermined how high the players jump. The only difference is different animations are assign to different players (fancy dunks, lay ups, and high off the ground jumpshots are for smallers players).

I believe in the future they may tweak this animations issue (we need different rebounding, shot blocking, running, and dribbling animations for the bigs!). This issue was addressed by Rob Jones in the Q&A thread by ChaseB.

You can turn down Hornie's dunking ratings. MJ's hang time? Not sure what we can do with that as it is all animations. As I said, I believe the vertical slider and ratings are useless. I checked by tweaking both the slider and editting players vertical ratings. Didn't see any changes at all. I created a player with minimum vertical rating and maximum dunking rating, and he's a dunking machine. Vert has no effect whatsoever.

I had the vertical slider at zero, and just for kicks turned Brendan Haywood's vertical ratings all the way down, and he was still at rim level on some of the rebounds. It's useless. It's all animations, and height obviously is already predetermined in those animations.

2K devs have already stated that it is animations issue.

In a game so dependent on height why wouldn't they bring in some 7 footers and some short guys who can leap over cars to record animations? Would it have cost them so much money that they only got one guy to record everything?

with the slider at 5, players can still soar high for a dunk. lbj can still do his high tomahawk dunk.

Yes, it is perplexing. Movement and physicality of players of different height/sizes are clearly noticeable when you watch a real basketball game. This includes running, dribbling, defensive stance, lateral movement, rebounding, shot blocking, etc. We might not be at the point where all of this can be implemented, but as you said, height (and jumping) is essential to the game of basketball. The difference in physicality between players of different height needs to be respected. Jumping and lateral movement should be priority #1.

Also, if the vertical ratings and slider could really tweak how high and far a player could jump, this would all be a moot point. But again, the vertical rating is indeed useless.

                              Try rebounding sliders at "0"
