Once again, 8 second violation is ignored this yearThere was two incidents during my demo's when I would get my hand on a ball and deflect it out of bounds with the shot clock at like 17 and the other team hasn't crossed half yet. Once they inbound it before half court, they cross half court with like 15 seconds on the shot clock. That's 9 seconds before half court.

Re: Once again, 8 second violation is ignored this year

If I'm not mistaken, when a defender touches the ball, the 8 second violation doesn't count. At least that's how it was for the last couple of games..There was two incidents during my demo's when I would get my hand on a ball and deflect it out of bounds with the shot clock at like 17 and the other team hasn't crossed half yet. Once they inbound it before half court, they cross half court with like 15 seconds on the shot clock. That's 9 seconds before half court.

The 8 second violation happens in NBA2k12. I just fired up the NBA2k12 demo and proceeded to do 8 second violations on purpose. I did it three times consecutively. Although what I did isn't exactly what happened in your game (i.e. defender deflecting the ball), the 8 second rule is in the game, and not ignored.

"NBA: 8 seconds. Count is reset if the defense kicks or punches the ball, is assessed a technical foul, or is issued a delay of game warning; or if play is stopped due to a player bleeding. For purposes of this rule, the ball gains front court status on a pass when it crosses the plane of the centre line."Comment

There you go. Idk why the OP said "once again" either, the 8 sec violation was in 2k11 too, right? The 8 second violation happens in NBA2k12. Re: Once again, 8 second violation is ignored this year

That's kinda his point; the timer is reset if it is deflected out of bounds. Which it shouldn't be. He is well aware that the rule itself is in the game. The 8 second violation happens in NBA2k12. The timer is reset in the NCAA, maybe 2K are just using the wrong rulebook

Actually, he does know the rule. No reset on out of bounds in the NBA.

Just for the record, a punched ball in the NBA is a specific violation that is treated like a kicked ball; it is not the same as deflecting the ball."NBA: 8 seconds. Count is reset if the defense kicks or punches the ball, is assessed a technical foul, or is issued a delay of game warning; or if play is stopped due to a player bleeding. Re: Once again, 8 second violation is ignored this year

I didn't say anything about out of bounds. According to what strawberry posted, if a defender "punches" the ball, the clock gets reset. The OP said that he got his hands on the ball, so shouldn't the clock reset?#HeatNation

Re: Once again, 8 second violation is ignored this year

I updated my post; no a punched ball is not the same as a touched ball. It actually means punching the ball (think boxing). It rarely happens at all, I can't remember the last time I saw a punched ball violation in the NBA.

Edit: Jason William's elbow-pass comes to mind actually, that's approaching the border of what would be considered a punched ball. But obviously, he got away with that, so even that isn't crossing that line.Comment

Re: Once again, 8 second violation is ignored this year

Don't accuse people of not knowing the rules when you don't know them yourself.

2K does mess up the 8 seconds. It shouldn't reset on out of bounds or a deflection. Anytime the ball is deflected out of bounds in the real NBA during that situation, they just make sure they pass it into the front court. It's not really a big deal but it does put less pressure on the offense.Comment

Re: Once again, 8 second violation is ignored this year

i do believe if the ball is deflected by a defender(becomes a loose ball) as long as there is not a change of posession an 8 second violation should happen if player that lost the ball doesnt get it passed the have court before the 8 seconds expire. if it deflected out of bounds the 8 seconds do not reset.Comment

You are absolutely correct my fair man.I updated my post; no a punched ball is not the same as a touched ball. It actually means punching the ball (think boxing). It rarely happens at all, I can't remember the last time I saw a punched ball violation in the NBA.

According to the NBA rules from last year:
"f. The team on offense must bring the ball across the midcourt line within 8 seconds.
EXCEPTION: (1) kicked ball, (2) punched ball, (3) personal or technical foul on the
defensive team, (4) delay-of-game warning on the defensive team or (5) infection control."
There's a link but it opens in PDF reader for me.

The only reason I can imagine why 2K doesn't reset the clock is because the game doesn't recognize the difference between a punch and deflection.#HeatNation

I know I am. There's not a lot of things I can say this about, but when I make a statement about 1) NBA rules or 2) the CBA, I know what I'm talking aboutYou are absolutely correct my fair man.

And no, that's also incorrect, because a few games back (2K9 I think?) the game were spamming you with punched ball violations every time you tried to steal the ball. So they should know what it is.Comment
