Anybody else played the 3 PT/Dunk contest?
I just redeemed my code for the All-Star weekend, and just played their 3 pt contest, it's horrific. It looks like they didn't put much effort into it, the camera angle is weird, shot release and grabbing the ball off the rack has no fluidity. The dunk contest, as silly as the "guitar hero" implementation is, was actually pretty fun. You don't have to hit every button perfect in order to execute a dunk, I'm not sure how the scoring is decided but they rate crowd noise as part of scoring (SMH)Tags: None -
Re: Anybody else played the 3 PT/Dunk contest?
Yeah, the 3 point shootout is extremely difficult. Only tried it once and I got 4 points. I don't understand the dunk contest. I completed a dunk, and Dwight just goes on the ground moping while the commentators talk about how I DIDN'T complete it, and I didn't get any points. -
Re: Anybody else played the 3 PT/Dunk contest?
A pointer I have for the three point contest is watch the shooter, not the bar..I got 16 doing this. The dunk contest is another story. I have played it 5 times, and not completed a single dunk. Annoying as all hell.Go Knicks
Go Bills
Go NY Rangers
Go Mets
Go Michigan
Go Arizona

The 3pt shootout does kind of suck. The dunk contest was better than I expected.Comment

You have to get into a rhythm by
1. releasing your shot the same spot each time (of coz at the right timing)
2. pick up the ball at the exact same time right after your shot.
If you do that and shots start going in 2-3x in a row, you will find your player shooting motions more fluid and more balls will go in as long as you keep the rhythm!
P.S. of coz some players are more easy to get into a rhythm than others.
GOT 23 with DIRK.. and the release point is not necessary the highest.. Dirk release point should be a bit earlier before the highest to get shots in.
I agree. The dunk contest is actually kind of fun.. some are really tough for me as I don't play guitar hero at all. But I do wish they would let you do a second retry and let you go around the court to do a dunk and use the scoreboard table thing.. basically What LIVE DID back then.Last edited by kchui1028; 10-03-2012, 10:04 PM.Comment

Re: Anybody else played the 3 PT/Dunk contest?
The 3-point contest is very sluggish at times. Sometimes when you press square the shooter doesn't start his motion or it's very delayed, throwing off your timing. Also disappointing that you can't use the right stick to shoot. As for the dunk contest, a tutorial or guide would've been nice because some of the motions are hard to get down and I don't know what I'm doing wrong since there's no real feedback.Comment

Re: Anybody else played the 3 PT/Dunk contest?
dunk contest is fun but once u pull off every dunk...it gets repetitive.
the judging on the dunks is off too..u would think the harder combos will get a better score, but sometimes the most basic dunk can get a better score.
this is why i still prefer the old dunk contest because there so many variations of dunks u can pull offComment

Like I mentioned You have to get into a rhythm to shoot well and fast.
Most player release point ARE NOT AT THE HIGHEST BUT CLOSE TO THE MIDDLE WHERE HE AIMS AT THE RIM.
Click button to pick up ball immediately after the ball release.
Keep the rhythm going.
It's amazing that when I get into the zone of pressing release button and ball button, I can close my eyes and know that ball after ball will go in, just like real nba players doing the contest.
I'm sure most people would like the same ol feel control in 2k11 but that's when I can use Shaq to win the perfect score on a 3 point contest LOL NO THANKS! Players do get tired and their rhythm get messed up, I think the 3 point contest this year is spot-on.Comment

The reason you find it unresponsive is because you didn't catch the rhythm of the motion.

Re: Anybody else played the 3 PT/Dunk contest?
Anyway..As for you pressing the button and nothing happen.. That irritated me at the beginning as well when I first picked up the game. Then I realize this is 2k's little way of telling you that you're going out of rhythm believe it or not, so you need to calm down for 1 second and then press it again. Like if you run to a second rack and before your player is ready you press pick up ball or shoot, it won't do anything and you have to press it again.
Timing and Rhythm to master the 3 pt contest. That's all there is to it.Comment

Re: Anybody else played the 3 PT/Dunk contest?
If you really think about it, without the "unresponsiveness", I can literally shooting balls off like paintball gun by button mashing combo like L2+square.
Would that have made any sense at all?
I also wish they'd have added stamina into the 3 point contest like if you start shooting them too fast, you'd get tired sooner because from what i've heard on the real NBA 3 point contest, the players start to get tired already by the 3rd rack.Last edited by kchui1028; 10-03-2012, 10:57 PM.Comment

Re: Anybody else played the 3 PT/Dunk contest?
my first time on the 3point contest was tough because I too thought it was laggy but it actually is not. What you need to do is begin the shooting motion before the ball leaves the rack. As soon as you press L2 or LB to grab the ball immediately start pulling the right trigger back or pressing the shoot button which ever you use. You don't have to get the release perfect, what is more important is to get into a rhythm and watch the shooter rather than the meter at the top. Hope this helps.Comment
