    Required fixes/improvements for MyCareer 2k14

After playing MyCareer for 3 seasons I made a list of things which need to be added/improved for 2k14. I compiled this list over time so it might not be that organized; I paragraphed each issue.

    1) There NEEDS to be an option where you can sub yourself out of the game or request the coach to be subbed out of the game. This is especially relevant in the last quarter of a game in blow out games where you are just wasting time by playing. Having to intentionally foul to get straight to the end of a game isn't fun nor realistic. Having to play more minutes then your rotation isn't always fun either.

    2) Defence needs to be improved. I'm not sure if this is because ball-handling is overpowered or because on-ball defence is too weak but if you have a defensive overall rating in the 80s then you should be able to guard and stop a player with an overall offensive rating in the 70s and 60s. On defence when you are guarding someone you slide way to easily across the floor and out of position when you are an above-average defender and you shouldn't have to have 99 defensive awareness and 99 on-ball defence to hold your own. The CPU just runs past your defender like his nothing and a minor bump with your team mate gets shown as if it's a major collision which totally messes up your defensive structure. Another thing I hate is how you get "cement feet" on a fast break which gives the CPU a head start on you.

    3) Double teams need to be fixed. The CPU runs out of and passes out of double teams way too easily and if you attempt a double team then it generally ends in a CPU score 95% of the time. If you catch them in a double team then they pass out of it way too easily (which leads to an open man getting an easy score) while you generally get punished if you get caught. It's just makes it impossible when you are trying to stop someone who is hot.

    4) Hand checking. When you are running the fast break and you get stopped by a CPU opponent comes from the side and who holds you, forcing you to back-back and allowing the opposition to scurry back on defence. I'm pretty sure this is a foul because they are grabbing onto you? This also happens when you get too close to a defender on the perimeter and they hold you. If you do a replay then their hands are all over you. This needs to be fixed.

    5) Overpowered bumping - this should've been fixed last year, but the last thing I want to do on offense is randomly grab onto my opponent and wrestle him for a second when I'm trying to run to a spot on the court for a play on offensive. This needs to be fixed.

    6) Durability needs to be lowered back down to the 70-80 mark. We should have a choice if we want our player to be injury prone or not (not have it chosen for us with 95 durability).

    7) The option to have or not have a secondary position. You should be able to choose if you want to be a Point Guard, a Shooting Guard or a Combo Guard not have it chosen for you.

    8) Free Throw shooting. Simply put, no matter what the difficulty the Free Throw success for the CPU needs to be based on Real Life success. Poor free throw shooters shouldn't magically turn Steve Nash or Mark Price at the line if you are playing on Superstar or Hall Of Fame level.

    9) CPU needs to take more outside shots or atleast have their inside success lowered. Points in the paint is a joke.

    10) Foul frequency should be permanently lowered. It's annoying seeing your Point Guard average 3-4 fouls per game. I know that if you don't foul in game then it gets lowered but why should we have to avoid contesting shots and let the CPU run in and get open layups? Please fix this, please.

    11) Frequencies should be made viewable again. I don't know why they were hidden, but you should be able to see how your statistics are going to be simmed.

    12) The clutch abilities should be made viewable again. Same reason as above.

    13) In scrimmages why are set plays different to the ones that are in-game? It's ridiculous. Scrimmages should be used to PRACTICE set plays for games and plays for scrimmages should be identical of those in-game.

    14) Get rid of auto-save, or atleast make it optional if you are using an offline MyCareer. Sometimes you want to go back to a previous save if you see teams like the Bobcats, Wizards, Hornets in the top echelon of the conference and teams like the Clippers, Nets and Spurs missing the playoffs. This is also relevant when you want to block silly off-season transactions like seeing LeBron or Carmelo leave Miami & New York to go and play for the Bobcats.

    15) The god-awful animations where if you make a layup and you lie on the ground for like 7-8 seconds afterwards need to go. It's just ridiculous how your 4 team mates have to helplessly try and defend the 5 CPU team mates which ultimately leads to an easy CPU score.

    16) Get rid of the "alley-oop" to yourself control and turn it into a dunk package instead.

    17) There needs to be a "Don't Pass It To Me" button which you can hold when you are off-ball. For example sometimes you're too well guarded and you diss it off to someone who is in a better shooting position and the shot clock is running down but instead of shooting the ball they pass it back to you and either the shot clock runs out or your shot gets blocked. Another problem I've had as a Point Guard is passing it to a guy running the break, but as soon as he gets the ball, he stops, props and passes it back to me just as I'm getting up the court and I get tagged with a backcourt violation turnover.

    18) Fix the contract negotiation so that you can resign mid-season. I know it's probably glitched because the game wants you to see the "Endorsements" from the fans to see you resigned, but it would be nice to know that you can re-sign in the midseason and be a one-team player.

    19) Fix the glitch where you can set Signature Skills and Dunk Packages back to "none".

    20) There are some records that needs to be updated. For example, Kevin Love took down 30 rebounds in a game for the Timberwolves 2 seasons ago but Kevin Garnett still has the franchise record with 25. LeBron broke the record for most points in a Playoff game for the Heat aswell I think.

    21) Change the alley-oop controls back to what they were in 2k12. There is just too much margin for error with the 2k13 controls (ie. mistiming your press and doing a stupid pass or pump fake instead of an alley-oop). The 2k12 alley-oop controls were just so much better then 2k13 because you didn't have to make sure that you pressed two buttons right next to each other at the same time.

    22) I don't know if this happens with anyone else but why does the General Manager change every season? This is probably something which needs to be fixed.

    23) Stuck in the crowd animation. I know it seems cool and realistic in theory, but it's just annoying and unnecessary to get caught in some strange animation which has nothing to do with the gameplay and can cost you points.

    24) Obviously sliders need to be added into this mode. Fair enough if you use an online MyCareer but an offline MyCareer should definately have sliders. The enjoyment of the game should be put ahead of people who cheese to max out their MyPlayers.

    25) I like the 2k12 box out system better than the 2k13 one. I know 2k12's was probably too sticky, but it was effective. You can be right next to an opponent and WANT to box them out but the game is too slippery to let you do it. Sometimes when you box someone out they end up jumping up and getting the rebound anyway.

    26) Touch passing/delayed animations. Please change the control so that the "Call for Pass" button is different from the pass button. Your teammates are inconsistent with how many times you have to click "Call for Pass" and when you are running on the fast break you only have so little time for them to pass you the ball that you have to jam the "Call for Pass" button. Occasionally you'll end up passing it back when you don't want to, which is highly dangerous and unintentional. Maybe make the select (PS3) button the Call For Pass button and make timeout a combination of buttons pressed at once?

    27) Remove "Bad Call for Pass" and "Excessive Call for Pass" from the Teammate Grade screen. It has no bearing over the game and it's nowhere near as bad as committing a turnover, bad pass or missing two free throws. It's just annoying and it's poorly implemented because you can be free on the perimeter, with the ball handler being double teamed and call for the ball and then get tagged with these ridiculous penalties.

    28) Potential needs to be lowered to a more realistic. Not every player should reach their potential, infact most should fall short of it. After a few seasons the league gets overinflated with too many good/great/star players which means there are no "bad" teams in the league. A players development should be determined by the environment they're in, the coach they have, the veterans around them and their personality.

    29) When you get drafted, the player that was drafted in the same position as you should either be removed from the MyCareer game or have his drafted analysis on his Player Card set to "Undrafted". This is probably not as necessary as all of the other problems but it would be nice to get a fix.

    30) Fix the shoes and socks so that match those of your team mates.

    31) Get rid of the automatic post up position or atleast make it optional. It's awful and as a Point Guard, something I never want to do. When I'm near the post waiting for a player my guy will go into a post up position for no reason when I'm suppose to be running to somewhere else on the court.

    32) If you're trying to intentionally foul someone then you should grab them immediately. Sometimes when you try to intentionally foul (I'm not talking about in the dying seconds of a game) the CPU will just run past you without you doing anything. You should also be able to "undo" an intentional foul.

    33) Bounce passing. There is a specific control for bounce passing but yet sometimes when you go to do a normal pass it does a bounce pass? This can sometimes be really dicey.

    34) Get rid of the pre-game team talk thing - or atleast make it optional. It's a cool idea but your MyPlayer sounds like a total douche when his trying to pep up his team mates (who don't even look like they're paying attention).

    35) Simulation injuries. If a player gets injured then they should either keep their same rotation and minutes or not play at all.

    36) There is an animation where if you get the ball and you want to sprint up the court then your MyPlayer throws the ball out infront of him when dribbling, which can easily bounce off someones leg or body and convert into a turnover and easy points for the CPU. Atleast make this animation optional.

While I agree with most your suggested fixes I do have a few comments to make on each of the following.

      15) While this animation is a hassle and annoying, it is also realistic as after some layups, especially the ones with contact, players do stay down for a while longer before they are able to get up. So yes this is annoying but because it is realistic I wouldn't mind if it stayed.

      21) I actually prefer the alley-oop controls the way they are now, and pressing the two buttons is not difficult whatsoever, in fact I find it quite natural to slide my thumb a bit left and press them. I think a better solution would be able to customize your controls so you can choose what does what.

      23) I don't really have a problem with this as there is no situation where you should find yourself in a position to get stuck in the crowd, but this could go and I wouldn't care.

      27) I find this realistic because personally if I was on a team and a player kept calling for the ball excessively I would get frustrated and annoyed with that player and my perception of them would decrease (hence the decrease in teammate grade), but the bad all for pass does need to be tweaked so that there are less situations where you are open and still get tagged for a bad call for pass.

      29) I don't like this idea because say you get drafted first that would mean the number one draft pick out of college would either be removed or undrafted which to me is too unrealistic. I would much rather a redraft to occur after you are taken, as in the player who's spot you take is still available for the team who would pick after them. Maybe implement similar logic to association for CPU draft needs?

      33) This is due to the pass button choosing which pass is most appropriate for the situation, I like it the way it is.

      36) I find that this is realistic as when you are sprinting there is no way to have the same level of control over the ball as when you are jogging or walking up the court.

        15) How come it never happens for the CPU? Whenever the CPU is put in a similar situation the inbounder always seems to take too long which enables the CPU player to recover. It is realistic, however if it's only going to be a one-way straight then it should go.

        21) At the very least they need to make it customizable. These new alley oop controls have cost me a few times.

        27) If there is a way too do it then fair enough. They should only make bad calls for passes when you're out of bounce or when you're in the backcourt and passing the ball to you would lead to a backcourt violation.

        29) They need to make it so there are no double picks. I don't care how they do it, it was just a suggestion. I don't see how it is unrealistic because the best player in college basketball isn't immune to breaking their neck, overdosing on drugs or jumping off a cliff prior to the draft.

        33) Allot of the time it's not appropriate for the situation though. Often you'll want to pass the ball straight at their chest but instead it'll do a bounce pass animation which leads it to being a kick ball or a turnover. It's annoying because you think to yourself "I didn't want to do that".

        36) Of course your not going to have the same control over your player when you're sprinting but there are other ways of sprinting around a player/up a court with a basketball other then throwing the ball out onto a CPU Player's leg.

To be honest I don't really know what you want from this thread. You gave a big list, complained when there was no reply then when I gave my opinions you shot them all down. Haha

For the long layup recovery I have had it happen quite a few times to the CPU which I then went down the court and capitalised on. And as for the removing draft picks, that wouldn't be unheard of no, but in my career I'd like to be able to play with or against all of the top rookies of that year. It just wouldn't feel right if I was drafted 2nd and I didn't get to play with or against MKG because of it.

Re: Required fixes/improvements for MyCareer 2k14

I like your list, a lot . It contains most of my grudges for this mode. 2K defintiely needs to take a look at all of these.

            15) The god-awful animations where if you make a layup and you lie on the ground for like 7-8 seconds afterwards need to go. It's just ridiculous how your 4 team mates have to helplessly try and defend the 5 CPU team mates which ultimately leads to an easy CPU score.
Agreed, it takes too long. Sometimes I slide on the ground and I'm up immediately. It takes him 4 seconds to push himself up and stand up straight. Right?

*The AI needs a big improvement. I want to play off-ball like D-Wade.

*I also want the AI teammates to play like they do in real life and score x amount of points. I'm playing with Lillard and he never chucks up those 3's like he does IRL. Batum is a great player but he barely scores. Sucks.

*Physics need to change at well. Players can just bump into the paint without losing the ball and push you aside. How is that realistic? You don't just push aside Marc Gasol and Z-Bo.

*I would love if they go back to 2K11/12 controls or make it available. I just pass with the (A) button (xbox) now and I used to press LB (I think) and pass a fast ball to a player with the right stick. Now I have to press an extra button which doesn't feel right and is a hassle to pass with the right stick. So I stopped using it. It doesn't feel right, I tried using it but I keep making mistakes.

*I don't want to carry my team, I don't want to become a superstar. What if I want to be Jamal Crawford or JR Smith with the same attitude. Let me choose. I had to score 82 points (all-star difficulty/simulation) on the Knicks to stay in the game and we still lost. I don't like that.

Great post, the length of your list just shows how far 2k MyCareer still have to go.

No, no, no I wasn't shutting them down lol I was just justifying my perspective on the points you singled out.

I made this thread to create more awareness for the glaring issuses that still plague this mode, some of which have been ignored for acouple of years now. If this list could somehow get drawn to attention at a MyCareer meeting for 2k14 or somehow influence the developers then this thread's purpose would've been served.

I like your idea about redoing the draft order in MyCareer, I'm just not sure if 2k would be willing to do it, unfortunately.

MORE OFF BALL DEFENSE! Defensively players need to be more aggressive, you should be able to make your player hand check, grab, push/shove, hard foul at any time, and bump the cutter!

Yeah get rid of post gave interviews after every game! Just make the interviews after key games only.

                      Make it more realistic!!!!

                      2) Defense needs to be improved: for players that actually play defense. Add a off the ball defense attribute.

                      8) Free Throw shooting: fix this

                      14) Get rid of auto-save, or at least make it optional.

                      24) Obviously sliders: sliders will fix a lot of the other issues the OP listed.

                      26) Touch passing/delayed animations: catching, blocking, sprinting, all of the above.

                      36) Sprint animation: it's delayed and is worthless
These are the main ones for me.
                      True bout my business, Mane!

Re: Required fixes/improvements for MyCareer 2k14

There are a couple of more immediate issues (listed in no order) then all those listed above:

                        1: The All-Star Game bugs
                        • If your player is voted a starter, he still comes off the bench.
                        • Related - The rotation for your player changes from before the All-Star game. This can lead to you going from starter to bench warmer.

                        2: Fouls
                        • In 2k12 and earlier versions, if you received multiple fouls in a quarter, you would be substituted out. In 2k13, this is no longer the case. It was not perfect before, but it was more realistic.
                        • If a person fouls out of the game, and you are on the court, the game penalizes you. There are even reports of this cancelling key game bonuses.

                        3: Injuries
                        • After the first year, injuries do not occur.
                        • On the court injuries happen, but notice is not given. You have to go into the game stats menu and check the players health status there.
                        • Players beginning with injuries on the roster have them all reset when starting a new MyCareer. (ie. D. Rose starts as Chicago's PG on day 1 and Bynum starts as Phili's C).

                        4: Contract Issues
                        • The option for player extensions are bugged when talking to the GM. if you ask the GM to extend your Rookie contract, the game becomes corrupted and is no longer playable.
                        • Off season transactions are really messed up, sometimes not even completed correctly.

5: Signature Skills not working as intended.
                        • Some advanced levels of signature skills hurt performance instead of help it. (ie. Finisher level 3)
                        • The Floor General and Defensive Anchor skills do not add to the attributes of teammates on the floor (or there is no indicator that they are doing so when looking at attributes in-game).

I'm sure the 2k team prioritizes issues and it would seem that some are of more immediate concern; yet despite multiple reports - they seem to slip down the priority list. The All-Star issue has been present since 2k11 as an example.

The meta issues such as foul frequency and foul types are important, but not of an immediate priority.

Agreed, I don't want D-rose to play for the Bulls if he's injured IRL.

I also don't like the rotations being used. I don't mind if they updated it (or we could) constantly.

Starting line up for the knicks is:

                          Felton
                          Smith
                          Melo
                          Stoudemire
                          Chandler

When this isn't the case IRL.

Re: Required fixes/improvements for MyCareer 2k14

I agree with almost every point you made. A few others that come to mind:

                            1) PLEASE let us finally choose which jersey we want to wear before each game, or at the VERY LEAST, program it so that your team will wear alternates and throwbacks on occasion.

                            2) Fix the VC/contract system so that we sign contracts in CASH and actually affect the salary cap (I'm not even sure if VC affects the cap or not). Make it something simple like, $1 million = 1,000 VC. So if we sign a contract extension for 3 years, $45 million, we will receive about 15k VC a season, and you can scale the VC so that we need more of it to buy attributes or whatever

                            3) Eliminate the stupid My Player Store or at least allow us to do basic things without spending hundreds or thousands of VC on it. All in-game gear should be able to be applied without spending VC, save the VC for the blacktop gear and the off-court gear (suits, platinum chains etc). You telling me that I make 500VC per season on my rookie deal and an arm sleeve costs 10,000 VC? So an NBA player needs to play 20 seasons to be able to afford a compression sleeve? That's ridiculous. NBA players don't pay a single red cent for any of their gear or shoes. Also, why can't I make my player wear black socks during road games?

                            4) To expand on the point made earlier about the alley-oop system, I have 2 recommendations.

                            a) X+A is a horrible idea. Too many times I take the ball to the hoop and go up for a layup/dunk, then when I draw the double team I try to pass out of the shot to the open big man and end up throwing a wild alley oop because the button combinations are too similar. Make it B+A or something. Or just go back to using one of the triggers + A.

                            b) PLEASE fix the trajectory and force with which players throw alley-oops. It should vary every time depending on the distance, and the proximity to the rim of the player receiving the oop. If my player is rated 99 in passing, he should be able to figure out how to throw the oop higher than 9 feet in the air, where any player can just reach up and deflect it. He also shouldn't be throwing them to the top of the backboard where no player could ever jump.

                            5) Being a point guard, one of my biggest pet peeves is turnovers. Even if you take extreme care of the basketball, it's almost impossible to play a full game at PG with 10 minute quarters and not get 2-3 turnovers, because your teammates are bound to mess up and then the TO gets pegged on you. A few examples of what I'm talking about:

                            a) I pass the ball to somebody square in the chest and it hits them in both hands, but since this player has a low hands rating I'm assuming, he has trouble handling the pass and he drops it, the other team gets the ball and I get credited for the TO even though it was the other guys fault.

                            b) An idiot teammate in the frontcourt passes me the ball behind the half court line and I get slammed with the TO

                            c) My player throws a pass to a guy on the wing and it goes right past them while the player just watches the ball go by them, even when it's literally right in front of their face they will just watch it go out of bounds.

Just a few of the ways that I always manage to rack up at least 2 unforced turnovers per game that weren't my fault

                            6) Allow us to edit our tendencies, so we can comfortably sim more games without worrying that our player is going to play a ridiculous style that we don't want. My guy has like a 60 rating from 3pt, but every time I sim he takes at least 3-4 3's. When I play I rarely take them. This feature would allow us to make sure our player was playing true to the way we want him to, even when we sim. My guy is an athletic PG who is just as likely to drop 30+ points as he is to drop 10+ assists, often times in the same game. But whenever I sim he takes like 8 shots, half of them from 3, never asserts himself offensively.

I will come back and add some more when I think of them

I definitely agree that we should be able to change our uniforms before each game, or wear throw backs from time-to-time.

More VC for assist and offensive rebounds, should get at least 2 VC for every assist and ORB.

The ability to add your cyber face like EA Sports Game Face.

Give us stuff to spend our salary on like... Like The Crib ala ESPN NFL 2k5.

Add a RPG like story mode that brings your character to life off the court. Your career path should depend of the answers you choose like in RPG games like Mass Effect.
