NBA Live 10: Producer Interview (ESPN)

ESPN has posted an interview with some of the NBA Live 10 Producers.

ESPN: "But we've heard this same 'building a foundation" line for at least three years now with this game. Why should we believe anything will be different in Live 10?"

NBA Live 10: "It's easy for me to say, hard for you to believe. I think ultimately we can say it right now but until we show you software from NBA Live 10, that will be the determining factor on whether or not you believe me. I think that what we can say is that 07 was a complete technology re-write in terms of gameplay, then we saw big jumps in 08 and big jumps in 09, but it's still not where we wanted to be. But I think the beauty of this is we've got a new guy who is leading our gameplay effort, and having Mike Wang gives us a new and fresh perspective on what our game is all about."

WOW this sounds great. No new gimmicks, totally focused on gameplay. New player models as well.

Re: ESPN: NBA Live 10 interview/new info

Sean O'Brien: To me, the signature stuff and the trademark moves, those need to be contextual. That stuff just needs to be there. To me, that falls under the label of authenticity and we're not going away from that, we're just not going to brand it anything. What we're going to try and do is make sure players are performing like they do in the real world and in the right context. So there is a huge focus on player differentiating this year. It's something we're not going to shy away from this year or moving forward.
This is really important to me. In so many game in the past it has been maddening(no pun intended) to see moves-dribble, shots etc,- totally divorced from their proper context. This has always been one of Live's weakest areas.

I like how Sean thinks of this as part of the core functionality of the game, something that isn't going to necessarily be hyped and/or spotlighted, but simply an essentially gameplay element.

Do this today: Instead of $%*#!@& on a game you're not going to play or movie you're not going to watch, say something good about a piece of media you're excited about.

Do the same thing tomorrow. And the next. Now do it forever.

Re: ESPN: NBA Live 10 interview/new info

These guys are talking a VERY strong game. I just hope they can deliver.

I agree with all of the points the Devs. made in this interview.

The technology they are using is awesome. For that reason, I can see why they are excited about this year's game.

I agree that 2k has masked ALOT of NBA2K's 'issues' with plentiful and realistic animations over the last couple of years.

The Live team hinted in this interview, that they will match the quality of 2k's animations.

I'll wait and see if they can deliver on that front. Live has struggled with realistic looking animations for years now.

IF they could somehow get this series to animate realisticly, I can definately see this title being back on top.

This series just needs a TON of new realistic looking animations, to REALLY allow it to shine.

The technology along with the DNA 365 feature is great, and I can't wait to see how it's been expanded on.

This is already my most anticipated game for this year.

I hope they got rid of the bigs fast breaking all game long. No reason for Yao Ming to be on the fast break, that's just not in his DNA if you know what I mean.

Go read though, seems promising, but I always go back to that famous saying, "actions speak louder than words" we been hearing this same thing with Madden for years now and nothings changed. Just have to wait and see some gameplay footage.

That was a fantastic interview. Somehow I dont think they're pulling chains and I dont see why they couldn't make as big of a jump as 2k6 was to 2k7

At least they DO acknowledge that they ARE chasing 2K. Thats a real start.

                        Really interesting.

I think NBA Live 10 will be the first real next gen basketball game.

I hear ya. Maybe a next-gen basketball version that can compare to MLB The Show. Well, 2K is still the closest.

this interview has me extremely excited for Live 10. I love how the devs give out slips of info to keep the consumer's interest. Right now, it seems that the 2k devs have went into hiding after releasing the last 2k patch.
