    Nba Elite: The Basketball Stuff

    Per request from the devs....
ITT we discuss all the gameplay elements of Elite 11. Nothing more. Nothing less

    I'll start.

We all by now know about Real time physics and control enhancements but what can you tell us about the 200 gameplay enhancements that littman promised us?

Re: Nba Elite: The Basketball Stuff

I want to know about CPU controlled user's teammates. Will they intelligently go after lose balls, rebounds, and defense or will everything be up the user? In Live 10 this was a problem in rebounding situations in particular.

Also will getting rebounds be as heavily determined by the correct user input and timing as it was in Live 10? In Live 10 I can't count how many times I've jumped for rebounds but because I didn't press the button at the correct time the ball warped through me or around me to the CPU player that didn't even jump. These were times that I mistimed the jump but was still physically in better position to get the ball than the man standing on the ground behind me.

It actually turned out to be a better strategy to just walk to most of the rebounds as the ball didn't seem to warp through me as much.

There will be no more ball warping this year so getting the rebound will be based on positioning, timing and the height of the player (and other ratings). There will definitely be a user timing aspect to this, but it is completely different from last year. Much more dynamic. We're layering on upper body animation so the player can adjust mid air to a ball the has changed direction and reach for it.

And to your first question, yes the CPU controlled teammates will have responsibilities. When you are in control of your player, you will have complete control. But your teammates will have to be intelligent as you said. The systems you've mentioned have had a lot of attention this year.

We'll be releasing more information as time goes on, but if you have specific questions I'd be happy to answer.

No offense, but I don't really want to just start listing improvements. I'd rather focus on questions or concerns people have. I feel that's a better use of my limited time on the boards.

I wanna build on the question asked in the other thread

What has been done to boxing out .. Is there a manual button for it this year, and can we get called for over the back ..

Defensively, how does the defensive stance or continous contact/tracking without being engaged work? ie, shading? would be nice if more physical defenders (ron artest for example) had better ability to maintain contact/tracking and the ability to body up than others. will this be handled via a trigger, or an auto defensive stance posturing? thanks

I'd like to touch on the "no turbo button" aspect of the game this year. Many people are worried about this, maybe you guys can shed some light on it.

Will we see PG's pulling away from big men in transition realistically? Will faster wing players have the ability to blow by their defenders after we successfully execute a legit triple-threat move?

I think these are things that worry some people, especially seeing how fast the game, as a whole, is moving at the moment. I understand locomotion and player ratings aren't tied in just yet, but will we be rewarded by utilizing players strengths versus our opponents weaknesses?

Re: Nba Elite: The Basketball Stuff

Last year a lot of guys felt like there was comeback code or CPU cheating with the eb and flow of the game seeming artificial. At certain points during the game open shots just simply stopped going in while the CPU seemed to go into GOD mode. Has this been addressed or is it even recognized as a problem? What I am asking is when the CPU decides to come back or go on a run, is it done realistically with better CPU defense/offense or is it artificial w/ratings boost and such?

Have you guys cleaned up the rebounds where players don't let the ball bounce in their chest and not make an attempt to get it? On loose balls do ALL players near enough hustle to the ball rather than one player 2 feet away casually walking to it while another player 20 feet away literally outruns him and gets the loose ball?

How has the game changed in regards to the stronger and more physical players like Artest on D, Shaq or Dwight in the post, and LBJ driving down the lane?

Will we be able to take advantage of their strength this year? One thing I hated about last year was how easily guys could be pushed around by the defense due to the canned animations.

I would love to be able to put my head down in charge the lane with these guys. But on the other hand I also wanted to know if their strength IS taken into account will more charges/blocking calls be used on them too?

fair enough 200 is alot afterall. One of the advantages that 2k has had over live is the variance between players. Live 10 touched on it a lil with the different momentums and such put what about on the animation side? I think most people would agree to some sort of package system like 2k has.

Re: Nba Elite: The Basketball Stuff

I'm very saddened to make this decision because I believe I'll INITIALLY be missing out on some good basketball but I think I'm going to have to give this game a pass this year. I really like everything I've been reading and hearing but sadly it's what I'm NOT hearing that has me coming to this decision. I've posted a question about ratings several times in the various threads that the devs have been answering questions in and have yet to receive a reply.

Every game in existence has a rating system. Is this creature more or less powerful than this trooper? Is this tennis player's serve more powerful than this player's ability to return? Does this car have more horsepower than the next? Ratings is what is going to determine whether this game will be a successful sim or a dunk facial fest. One only needs to look at Live 10 where in the beginning the game played great. (glitches and all aside) The core of basketball was there and was fantastic, then the ratings changed. The momentum, team ratings and individual ratings got so messed up it killed the game play. People started literally walking to loose balls right at their feet while other players 10 feet or more away would run over and pick it up. Rebounds actually hitting players in the chest with them making no attempt to simply put their hands out and get it.

Now I have no problem with the game steering to a more "arcade" element of gameplay through player ratings but online there needs to be a real sim lobby. One that has the ratings marginalized behind the scenes a bit to keep the gameplay tight. For some reason my sixth sense is telling me that this wont be the case so I've decided to save myself the frustration and just to pass on this one.

One would say "wait for the demo" but in actuality that's really irrelevant. The demo is usually between pretty equal teams so any rating discrepancy would not show. I'm very saddened by this as I really started to give Elite the eye recently with what I've seen so far.
