Re: Official Boston Celtics Thread

With Waters signing the 2-way contract, that tells me that Tacko Fall will be waived and tried to put straight to Maine but I have to imagine some NBA team with a 2-way contract available will attempt to scoop him up.

My guess at what the roster will look like:
PG - Kemba, Wanamaker, Edwards
SG - Brown, Smart, Langford
SF - Tatum, Hayward
PF - G. Williams, Ojeleye, Yabusele
CE - Kanter, Theis, R. Williams, Poirier

2-Ways: Waters, Strus

There are our 17 guys we can keep on the roster. Now I hate keeping Yabu but the fact is that his $3m salary should aid is should we look to make a trade during the season. He should NEVER see the floor and quite frankly should spend a ton of time in Maine with Strus, Waters, Langford (to start the season) and Robert Williams.

I agree with what you had for the roster but Yabu is now gone. I think the last quote below with Ainge not being done means he will fill that final roster spot with a FA signing or trade.

Yabu now gone is what this chat is probably about. Ainge will probably be seeking a player either through FA or trade to fill that 15th man on the roster. However, I do believe this same/similiar message was tweeted before we even got rid of Yabu.

Ainge might have more up his sleeve like a trade because with Kawhi not coming back to the Raptors now we could end up being true contenders in the East even though the Bucks & 76ers are probably going to be the favorites. I really think the Bucks losing Brogdon in FA is going to hurt them.

Re: Official Boston Celtics Thread

Here's how I could see our player rotations panning out:

PG- Kemba, Edwards, Wannamaker
SG- Brown, Smart, 15th roster spot?, Langford (when up with the NBA team)
SF- Tatum, Hayward, Ojeleye
PF- Grant Williams, Theis, Poirier (Hayward could see minutes @ PF too)
C- Kanter, Robert Williams, Poirier (interchangeable between PF & C)

It's going to be interesting to see what Ainge does for that 15h roster spot now that Yabu is gone. If you guys had to guess what position do you think he's looking at filling? I think it might be SG because Langford isn't ready for the NBA squad yet.

I don't think it will be another big because we have interchangeable guys that can play both PF & C now. Don't think it would be another PG. The only other position I could see is SF other than SG. Maybe with Semi @ SF Ainge isn't comfortable with him because he's one dimensional on offense with being a 3-pt. specialist?

However, he's a defensive stopper at multiple positions so I would find it hard to see Ojeleye being out of the rotation @ SF & he can also play PF too. I'm going to guess it's going to be a filler player @ SG because of the situation with Langford probably starting out in the G-League.

Re: Official Boston Celtics Thread

I think they need an offensive threat on the wing - be it a SG or SF.

Re: Official Boston Celtics Thread

Rumors of 3 possible players to fill that 15th roster spot with the departure of Yabu:

Shaun Livingston
Kyle Korver
Tyson Chandler

Personally, I don't know if we really need or could use any of these players. The only one I can see as a little need for would be Korver. We don't have any knock down SG's on the current roster. Brown is not a knock down 3-pt. shooter but has improved on that tremendously. Smart has also improved in this area but he still isn't a SG we can rely on as a 3-pt. shooter/specialist. Korver fits that mold if that's what we're looking for.

Livingston would be a player that could play multiple positions but he would strictly be a role player. He's got some age on him now & last season with the Warriors he showed some significant decline. He does have great length & plays solid defense though. Maybe we get him because of his playoff experience he's had with the Warriors but other than that I don't see a need for him.

Tyson Chandler just like Livingston has some age & really is strictly a space eater & decent rim protector now & not a great rim protector like he used to be. Chandler just like Livingston could provide veteran leadership & help out with all the young big men that we have on the team. He probably wouldn't see more than 6-10 minutes per game unless in situations where we need defense in the paint on a big man like Embiid. Chandler can still play defense but nowhere near the level he had for years.

I thought myself of a few FA's to choose from that we might should consider bringing in for that 15th roster spot (in no particular order):

Justin Anderson (SG)(UFA- was with Hawks)
Jerryd Bayless (SG)(UFA)( was with T'Wolves)
Vince Carter (SG-SF)(UFA- was with Hawks)
Jimmer Fredette (SG)(UFA- was with Suns)
Justin Holiday (SG-PG)(UFA- was with Grizzlies)
John Jenkins (SG)(UFA- was with Knicks)
Jalen Lecque (PG-SG combo)(UFA- playing on Suns Summer League team)
Shelvin Mack (SG)(UFA- was with Hornets)
David Nwaba (SG)(UFA- was with Cavs)
Davon Reed (SG)(UFA- was with Pacers)
Iman Shumpert (SG-SF)(UFA- was with Rockets)
Nik Stauskas (SG)(UFA- was with Cavs)
Isaiah Whitehead (SG)(UFA- was with Pistons)
