    The Official Pittsburgh Steelers Thread

It's been a busy offseason for the Steelers.

    - Willie Parker and now Santonio Holmes are gone.
    - Questions remain regarding the secondary and Offensive line.
    - Another offseason distration from Big Ben

Rashard Mendenhall really blossomed after being benched for a game last year for lack of effort in practice and hopefully he keeps the momentum going in 2010. Mike Wallace was a welcome surprise during his excellent rookie season and the return of Antwan Randle El should help offset the loss of Holmes. 2010 will probably be Limas Sweeds last (and best) chance to show he can play so hopefully he takes full advantage of the oppurtunity.

The Steelers have a lot of options in the draft. I'd look for them to go FS or OLine in the 1st and 2nd rounds. then MLB/DL in the 2nd/3rd rounds. WR and HB are probably good bets for the middle rounds.

No FS in the 1st with the signing of Will Allen from Tampa! OL/CB in 1st round.

A rough offseason for the Steelers just got rougher. Espn.com is reported that Willie Colon tore his achilles while doing agility drills and is likely out forthe season. 2010 could be a rough year for the Steelers.

C'mon, where're all the Steeler fans!?

1st preseason game tonight against the Lions and as an added bonus we get to see Ndamukong Suh's NFL debut (I think).

            BRING ON THE POWER!!!!!

Former Steeler great Lynn Swann leads an ownership group that will bring an Arena Football League team to be called the "Power" to Pittsburgh for the 2011 season beginning next April. They will play at the new Consol Energy Center.

            I'm pumped!!!!!

I don't really care that Colon is out for the year, he's never impressed me at all, and is a penalty machine. If we're going to have Flozelle Adams out there, I think it's a plus to not have Colon too. Hell, we'd start every drive 1st and 30 with their penalties.

I think this is going to be a transitional season, where we have to get past the ugly shadow of this Ben situation. All and all I feel he's been unfairly suspended here, possibly 6 games is ridiculous, but it is what it is and the beginning of the season is going to be a struggle.

I do like that we're getting back to defense and running the ball, it's always been our identity. I hate Arians offense. I understand it our last SB season, since we had no running backs that year, but last year their offense was so off balanced and goofy. Should be interesting to watch our younger players develop and become staples on this team. Ziggy Hood, Mike Wallace, Pouncey, and Timmons still developing and hopefully a healthy season (Farrior really looks like he's lost a step), I like our young players.

Wasn't too high on Wallace last year, I felt people were going a little overboard in the hype for him when he was more so the product of Hines/Holmes, but he did show some signs of brilliance. This season is going to be a better judgement of him, since he'll be on the field every play and he's going to be the main guy. Still hate the way we dumped Santonio, sending a message in an overly harsh way with that, as it punished the whole team.

So while I'm not expecting a championship this year, I think it will be a step in the right direction and we can keep building from here. Really hope to see Ben come back strong, keep his mouth shut, and just win games.

OK, one more attempt to breathe some life into this thread.

The season is 1/2 over and the Steelers stand at 6-2 tied with the Ravens for 1st in the AFC North. The Steelers have posted identical 3-1 marks in the 4 games without Big Ben and the 4 games with him, but the story has mostly been the stifling defense. Other bright spots have included the emergence of rookie center Maurkice Pouncey who has drawn comparisons to Dermonti Dawson as well as the continued development of 2nd year WR Mike Wallace.

Unfortunately Sunday nights 27-21 win over the Bengals brought back memories of 2009 when the Steelers had a hard time maintaining a 4th quarter lead when they nearly blew a 27-7 lead. The Steelers O-line also took another hit with the loss of Max Starks for the season due to a neck injury.

The Patriots game was definitely shades of last year as well, except the offense couldn't even keep them in a game. Makes me worry a lot about the Raiders game this week, considering we lost to them last year, and although we're better than last year, so are they, and they're coming off a bye. I worry mostly because I feel like the team is regressing as the season goes by, so I think this is a pivotal week.

Yeah, and all the injuries along both lines aren't helping either.

Re: The Official Pittsburgh Steelers Thread

Well, here it is. Rivalry Week against the Ravens. Sunday night has not been too kind to us, as we lost to the Saints and Destroyed by the Pats. Lets hope that this trend doesn't continue and we win this game.

If the rumors of Ben's foot being broken are true, then it is going to be a very tough game to win. I know we almost won at home with out ben, but the Defense was different back then. They don't look the same since the Pats dominated them with the passing game (i know, we destroyed the Raiders) but Buffalo pretty much took what Brady did and replicated it.

For this game, the Steelers must be able to run the ball and that means the OLine has to push the Ravens DLine off the ball. We also must be able to use Wallace more in the passing game. Bills did a great job taking away the deep ball and I expect the Ravens to do the same. Need to go more underneath with him and then draw those safetys in and then go over the top.

The defense must also do something with coverage. Seems every game that we give up huge chunks of passing yards. I know we don't want to give up the homerun ball, but also don't want to give up 7 to 8 yards per passing play.

Well, Pittsburgh's going to the Super Bowl and still nobody wants to use this thread. They just keep creating threads in the main forum that wind up locked. C'mon guys, I know there's plenty of Steelers fans on the board.

Super Bowl XLV should be a tough, hard fought, largely defensive struggle and a great game. However, given the ractions to the past 2 super bowls, I have to hope for 2 things.

                          1. Roethlisberger has a very good game.
                          2. The officiating is excellent.

The Roethlisberger haters and conspiracy theorists are getting REALLY old.

I agree with your 2 hopes, and the Ben bashing is just personal opinions with nothing to back them up. The fantasy football era has skewed some people's perceptions of what a QB should be. The guy has the stats to back him up, which i already posted in the other thread.

never really checked it out, i dont talk much about the sports as much as the games, however this is probably gonna be the best of the last three super bowls weve been in. I dont know what it was really with this year, ive always loved the steelers but i live literally 2 minutes from St. Vincent and i followed trainig camp real close this year and i got really into it this year it was alot of fun wacthin the season.
