It's really great to see other like minded gamers still on 2k. Even 9/10 years later, I find myself coming back to it time and time again. I play this over nhl20...I just cant stomach nhl20 (or anything from ea 16-onwards). Chel is ok but offline, idk, just lacks something...and that's where 2k shines. I know it's sometimes a little rough round the edges but it's legit...with sliders, it really does scratch my sim itch for hockey. Also, I love the old rosters...that was when I had most of my favourite players playing. John Scott, Matt Carkner, Derek Boogaard. Plus some of the other big boys. Ah, this game is still at the top of the pile for me
Got a few games in last night...
This game still leaves me with sheer moments of fist-pumping excitement and joy. The only other game I get this same amount of fist-pumping emotion out of is MLB The Show. I love how every game feels different and I have no idea what's going to happen in any game or even on any sequence/play/shot/save etc...it all stays just so fresh. I love the goalie movements and animations...they are still superior to EA even after all these years. They have real weight and use proper momentum when pushing off just like the rest of the players do...it's a joy to behold.
I'm constantly going into replays and looking at all he little things the game has to offer...it's truly amazing.
This was by no means the standout play for me last night but it was the game winning goal in my last game...
Playing as the Thrashers, Antropov wins the faceoff fairly cleanly in the Flames zone, Big Buff manages to move the puck to Enstrom on the blue line and he's closed down fairly well, so I fired a quick wrister just looking for something on goal. The shot is pretty weak and ends up hitting Antropov in the skates as he's moving across the crease...he however manages to get control of it and I just wrist one as hard as I can on net looking for the near side top corner pretty acute angle. I luckily manage to deflect it of the goalies shoulder as he was just slightly late after recovering from the original shot not making it through. It just felt so natural and like something you see irl. It's in stark contrast to EA. I'm not here to bag on EA but I never get this type of enjoyment out of their series.

This is exactly why I also preferred 2K over EA. And also PES over FIFA.

Yeah, moved over to PES back in the PS1 days. I was always more interested in organic gameplay rather than polish & licensing. Stayed the same to this day.

I unfortunately haven't been able to play any 2k hockey since my second 360 crapped the bed on me years ago, just got an image of 2k10 (which I own, along with literally every 2k hockey game ever released, some with generational overlap) to play on xenia, but due to an issue creating save games, I can't get past the start menu, the demo plays pretty nicely though.

PES is always a fun game, the action on the field is unparalleled.

If only All-Pro Football had been able to do as well as PES does, without league licensing, we'd have a great football game to play too.
There is a small community of players that still play NHL2K11 for the Wii online (using Wiimmfi). If any of you have NHL2K11, it's free to play online and you don't need a modded Wii in order to use Wiimmfi.
We have a discord server so let me know and I can send you a link to join if you are interested.
Just picked up 2K8 to add to the rotation with 2K10. I always thought 2K10 to be unrivalled but I never realised how deep the control scheme and game mechanics ran in 2K8. Wow, just wow. I'll need more time with 2K8 to fully get to grips with it but I'm very impressed. The attention to detail with the mechanics might be the best of the series. The 'enforcer engine' (for want of a better phrase) is the best I've ever seen in any game. I wish 2K10 had that in it.

I far prefer 2K8 graphically, for its exhaustive stat tracking in season mode, for its classic teams, for the commentary and for its controls, the best in any hockey game ever in my opinion. The menus are ugly but I can ignore that. Butone thing that is very very hard to balance is the sliders that become very frustrating pushing you in opposite extremes from either low scoring affairs or unreasonable blowouts for you or the CPU. Once you get it right, it works great. But it can take days to get the sliders right. And starting from another set doesn't help, it just has to be right for you.

100% on the controls. They really are deep. Once you get the hang, quite intuitive. Still trying to get to grips with them as I'm still in 2K10 mode.
I know I've mentioned it already but I love the intense contact and the tangible effect it has on players composure along with big hits. The fighting is good as well. A step up from 2K10.
So glad we get to play these games. I wish I'd known about 2K8 years ago
2k8 and 2k10 definitely are two amazing games in their own way. Tough to pick a favourite between the two, they both have great elements the other one does not have and vice versa. In my personal ranking they share the number 2 spot behind NHL 04 Rebuilt as far as best NHL games of all times.
Twitch is the world's leading video platform and community for gamers.
I recently started a 2K8 franchise and streamed a few games. I forgot how ridiculously fun this game could be! I enjoy it immensely more than even the NHL 23 Tech Demo.
i have ordered NHL 2k10 (and smackdown vs raw 07) for my PS2, and am so happy to see this sort of thing around. i ended up choosing 2k10 because it seems like one of the few non-manager sports games that has a limitless franchise mode. the EA games have pretty short year limits (i've heard '22 can't make it past 2035!) and eastside hockey manager doesn't quite scratch the itch for me, even with the workshop stuff.
anyway, if anyone has any tips for rosters or updates or sliders to use for PS2 (not an emulator) NHL 2K10, i'd love to hit the ground running on a 100-year Blue Jackets odyssey. i've noticed that many of the roster updates are PS3 based, if anyone knows how/if those will work on PS2 feel free to let me know. Cheers!
