I've had a hard time getting NHL 2K3 to even work properly on an emulator

I watched this, then played 2KHS. 2K came a long way in 7-8 years...


If you want to make a light version you should try to make 2KHS able to run constantly in 30FPS. That will make it available for many more. But my guess is that would probably be like redoing the entire mod from scratch?



But on the other hand considering the work you've spent you definitely deserve to spend some time on something else... 🤣

You've got it wrong tho 😀

Watch it again then play some 2k11 on Wii and then tell how long way this game came.

The only thing I really miss is def stick and crossovers, everything else is worse and look worse (even for the Wii standards) vs 2k3.

There are some potentially great animations and neat features (in 2k9/10/11), but most of it so crippled together that I'm not sure if that can still be considered as bad direction, incompetence or straight sabotage.

It sometimes really makes me mad knowing how really far this game could and should be, but yeah, it's all very questionable.

Watched again.
Then watched 2K5 clips.



2K5 really had the best presentation of all NHL hockey games. I mean just the menu music... Damn.


It also strikes me how thin the models are in the newer ones.

2K5 its where they started with the unrealistic chase camera angles, which totally breaks the immersion of a proper TV broadcast. 2K3 is a little bit better in this regards, but it is already flawed (when in 2K1 they build a great foundation with realistic camera angles and slowly ruined it)

After 2K5 they revert it back.
So if you want the best presentation search for NHL 2K6. But it lacks ESPN graphics, so ya again, 2 steps forward, 2 steps back

...Then again they started ruining it with 2K7 and 2K8 and the circles repeat with 2K9/10/11 where they have realistic cameras but haven't bother with stats overlays etc. So again.. 2 steps forward 3 back.

Anw., here is 1 st look at a proper broadcast camera (not a side view).
Still many pieces missing like better zooming and UP/DWN panning etc.

2K6 probably was the one I played the most. Fitting it had my all time favourite player Sundin on the cover too.


It is the ESPN presentation I am talking about. The commentary, crowd cuts, music, etc. Especially the music makes me fired up. That is how I remember an NHL game from TV back in the nineties.

So this looks like the main issue and the reason why there are basically no goals in the default game. Poor collision detection (and hit points) got especially obvious with realistic puck proportions.

2k3 was my favorite of the 2k series. I had it on ps2. The goalies were way too good in the game though. Everything else was just about perfect at that time though. It was the most I played a video hockey game since the most revolutionary hockey game ever made, and that was the original NHL Hockey on Sega Genesis.

yeah the goalies in this game makes saves that even the current modern game cant do. Plus their movement is a lot more natural than in NHL 20, for example.

Unfortunately, the puck in this game is as big a football/soccer ball and the devs probably use the hit points from the actual model, so the puck just can't get behind the goalie 99.9 % of the time.
On top of that, there is some force field around the goalie and stops pucks that are 15 cm away from his body/ equipment.

As I said earlier, I don't understand how something so obvious (there are no goals basically in NHL 2K3) could get through the testing phase. And even if there was no outside testing, how such a thing could get in the final build, because otherwise, the game feels like a very professional hand made work from people that really love and care about hockey. This is study material indeed hah

So, how's this going to work? There's no way to edit player names and nationalities without creating them in-game. I know this, since I'm attempting to update the rosters to 2020, but I can't because of those limitations.

I remember when I had the game on ps2 there was an editor. Thats how you made the game playable.
You could edite everything. names, rinks, etc.
I mainly used it to lower all the goalies attributes to the 50s becasue as mentioned above, the goalies where a main issue in the game.
