    Madden Eras

Surely it’s time EA stepped up and did something like this. Was fascinated with what NBA2k had done.

I would love to pick a starting point in the past. Playing on the hard Astro turf fields of veterans stadium or three rivers stadium.

Just one roster set and the stadiums to go with it. I’m pretty sure the community would provide draft classes to add to the experience.

Never will happen. EA wants you to pay for it through MUT if you want to play with older players.

I’d happily pay extra if it was in the deluxe edition or some sort of retro edition.

Maybe 20 years from now. That's how far behind EA is from 2K. Even at that pace I don't think it will happen when you keep remodeling a cracked foundation.

I'm almost embarrassed at the amount of money I'd pay for an NFL eras type mode. Now it would have to be full encompassing. I'd need all Uniforms, Stadiums and nice draft classes.

Great idea but getting the game and modes at a stable foundation should be their main/only priority.

Wouldn't see it ever happening. Massive difference between 13 players (Most of which 2K was/is unable to get in older eras, most of those teams are only made up of 2-3 real guys, albeit the most important ones) and full NFL rosters. And I disagree about only including one roster set and letting the community do the work. That would just lead to the masses screaming about how lazy EA is and how they make the community do the work for them.

              Hardly worth it, IMO

Additionally the amount of hurdles they'd have to clear to get every player's likeness (or even a majority of them) into the game is probably not worth the squeeze. Remember, the NFL really stands for "Not For Long"!

                  Re: Madden Eras

Won't happen (as much as I would love it to) and I'm gonna explain, in short, why

While also concurring with the folks before who mentioned 53 man rosters for all teams is WAY harder to get right than 12 man rosters in basketball; the biggest hurdle is the NFL Alumni association and the way player likeness is handled by them and the NFL.

Some Madden (and NFL GameDay) old heads will remember that both games had yearly great teams and all time teams included in the glory years of the late 90s and early 2000s. Right around the time of the Ed OBannon case for NCAA, some NFL Legends, most memorably Jim Brown (RIP) took issue with the fact that Madden was doing the same thing, using past player likenesses but omitting their names (he was HB NO. 32 on the 60 Browns but had the right height, weight, stats etc).

This was also around the time when stories were coming out about CTE and issues former players were encountering and that the league was not supporting them with pensions or medical care. So he and other retired players hit EA with a Cease and Desist under threat of lawsuit. EA complied and there went the classic teams.

After a while when MUT came along, they started asking stars of the past for NIL and negotiating with them alone. So MUT has stars that agreed to be in on their own and not as a class (as in class action.)

TLDR Money is why this won't happen, even though EA could pay them all, it won't get returns like MUT

                    ^^ Nailed it

The Brown and O'bannon suits will prevent this from happening.

Considering how outdated the playbooks are, you're pretty much playing a historical mode right now

They haven't had a stable 3rd mode in years. FOTF, Superstar... whatever they want to call it... it's always full of bugs and rarely gets post release support.
