Or will that be a new feature in a future installment. The lack of penalties in this game is mind boggling. Of all the things in this game I feel like that should be one of the easiest to replicate to the real NFL. Penalties used to work and they have been slowly taken away. Why EA?

no not this year again - the real issue is that some of the most commonly called penalties in the NFL aren’t even possible in the game, like unnecessary roughness, defensive holding, illegal shift, illegal motion, illegal hands to the face, etc

I'd be happy with offensive holding at this point. I see it called once every 3 or 4 games. Sliders have no effect. How can a sim football game not even have penalties? I think it's obvious sim players are not EAs target audience. Hard to get MUT dollars from you if they make franchise awesome.

For the record I’ve had 1-2 defensive holdings called this year as well as some unnecessary roughness penalties but they are seemingly tied to animation glitches / morphing i.e players getting stuck running into eachother on routes or a tackling animation triggers way out of bounds. Doesn’t appear to be any rhyme or reason besides screwy animations that trigger these - certainly a disappointment.

I thought EA took defensive holding out of the game a while back. So you are saying it is back? There isn't a slider for it.

When fatigue gets real bad, you will see penalties.

As it has been pointed out on these forums, this is not a bug or glitch. This is intentional programming design. For whatever reason, EA decided they don't want penalties in the game... period. Never mind the fact that between sliders and "simulation mode" that penalties should be there for games who want/don't want them.

I've given up asking about this.

16 was the last to have defensive holding and I know, last gen anyway,unnecessary roughness was called occasionally and it may still be a very rare occurrence, but then again any penalty is a rare occurrence these days.

I wouldn't hold my breath because it's something they are very well aware of but won't do anything to fix it.It was a decision made a few years ago and they're sticking with it.

I could have swore I saw defensive holding as I vaguely remember thinking to myself "I had no idea that was in the game" but to be honest I could have in fact saw DPI and thought the same "I had no idea that was in the game"

I just remember from 17 on everybody cranked the defensive holding slider up to 99 and came to the conclusion that it just wasn't a thing anymore.

I don't know which year they removed the slider but it was an afterthought at that point.

If you user coverage you can definitely get illegal contact called. I have yet to see defensive holding.

Its the reason I passed on the game this year. Loved the on field gameplay but to remove a feature that is such a big part of football is a shame.

I don’t know if you guys really want NFL type penalties in the game. The 49ers and the Browns this weekend had a combined 25 penalties and then the Monday night game it seemed like every third down was a penalty and I’m sure that game approached 20 penalties combined also.
When I watch the NFL and there’s so many penalties, it takes away from the game and the referees take control. I agree, maddens penalties are few and far between but I don’t think we want to duplicate real life because then we have a whole bunch of new gripes and bitches.

Give us the OPTION. If you dont like it, you can turn them down.
