defensive front 7 assignments

during pre-snap on the defensive side of the ball, can you no longer only change d-line assignments without changing the linebackers as well? in older games, if i wanted to shift the d-line to the right and have them pass rush to the right side of the o-line, i could do so without having the linebackers shift right either. you could indepedently have the d-line and/or linebackers spread, pinch or shift right or left. in this new game, if i want to move the d-line right, the linebackers move also. am i pressing the wrong button or missing something.

Yes, you can still shift defensive linemen and linebackers separately.

At pre-snap: press D-Pad Left to open the defensive line adjustments menu; press D-Pad Right to open the linebackers adjustments menu.

I had no idea! I only knew about RB/R1.

I would really love an entire game manual entry for pre-snap adjustments. It's so frustrating all the secret knowledge that needs to be gained for this game.

It's OK to be hard, just document it for us.

The left and right on the d-pad are the basic adjustments for those groupings. I do think that those are in the trainings or documentation in game. Probably should be more accessible than they are.

To me it’s the more obscure button presses and options that are missing. The posts in this forum make it clear that there’s a lot of options and intricacies under the hood. You shouldn’t have to have a degree in 10 years of Madden and the ability to keep up with posts in this forum to know all of your options.

As someone who hadn’t played a new football game in 11 years, it’s very shocking how much stuff was added, and even more shocking how little of it is documented anywhere in the game.

Just for completeness in case this also isn't widely known: Triangle / Y is your pre-snap button mapping for coverage adjustments (shading, sticks calls, change coverage shell, coverage adjustments per-receiver, hot routes for defensive backs).

Does playing the sticks cancel match coverage like shading?

Correct, Sticks is a spot-drop zone call which will cancel match coverage. Additionally, it overrides your zone drop depth coaching adjustments for that play if you have set those.
