    Forbe's Top College Sports Towns

    http://www.forbes.com/2010/03/05/col...s_slide_2.html

The Big 12 is represented nicely here.

I was a bit surprised at #1. That being said, I've never been to Ann Arbor so I can't really comment.

At least scUM can beat tOSU in something eh? I find it hard to believe though anyone would rank Ann Arbor, with Michigan's current struggles, at #1 for a town to live in, over a lot of others on that list, especially #2.

      That's what I was thinking.

They had Norman, Oklahoma at #3. While I had a blast living there during my college years, I can name at least three other college towns I had more fun visiting.

I've been to Ann Arbor for an OSU/UM game - it was lame. All the fans between the 10 yard lines are blue hairs that don't even cheer. The only noise comes from the two end zones and the stadium's design allows all the sound to dissipate without it getting loud at all. Hell the last OSU game was WELL represented by buckeye fans - tons of red in the stands- we held up a banner stating that we loved Rich Rodriguez for what he did to Michigan - that wouldn't happen in columbus or most of the schools in the top ten on that list.

to each his own i guess

You were surprised because it's a comedy article.

College Park has a low crime rate coupled with affordable housing.
          Compared to what exactly?

College Park is cheap compared to DC, New York, and LA, but for a college town (which it isn't by any stretch) it could very well be the most expensive in the country.

Obviously 90% of that is that it's right outside of DC but 2 bedroom apartments are are 1800-2000 a month. Even if you split that four ways it comes out to about 500 a month and if you want your own room you're paying a grand once utilities are factored in.

We also get crime alerts which come on about a daily basis from late April to October because of robberies and assaults.

I'm not saying UMD is a cross between west Baltimore and the Hamptons, but compared to actual college towns, College Park is incredibly expensive and you have a pretty decent chance of getting robbed.

So it was a sarcastic article? If so that makes sense for their #1. One thing I'd like to point out, Austin, TX is most certainly a fantastic place to live. Obviously I enjoy living in Columbus, OH but as a Buckeye fan im' obviously biased. But yeah, Austin is an awesome college town IMO.

Yup. College Park is sh**y but not as sh**y as Hyattsville and slightly less sh**ty than Greenbelt.

List is opinion based of course so alot of it certainly depends on what your critera is that deems it a top sports town. Nice to see Fayettville the hometown of the Razorbacks in a top 10 for something though. I love Fayetville but then again I am biased

Some of those are kind of questionable as "College Towns", IMO. I don't consider places like Austin, TX to be "College Towns". When I think of a college town, I think of a town place that is centered around the college (perhaps the college is the only reason the city is even there).

Agreed. Austin is a city. Not a town.

There is a difference between a partying college town and a big city that just has a lot to do.

Ann Arbor's unemployment rate is 9.0 while Michigan as a whole is 14.0.
Its the lowest of any of the major cities in state.
