The greatest halfback I ever had was in my Miami dynasty with a 5'11 235 power back named Ben Rush. I nicknamed him Bull Rush because I would call dives and iso's straight up the gut and he would run through the hole, smash through linebackers, then get the first down with the db's hanging off him. Anytime we went out in the goalline formation everybody knew what was coming but there was no chance you were going to stop him from getting the ball where it needed to go. I've never had a back since that had the strength, break tackle, or trucking ability this kid had and every year of recruiting since I've looked but can't find another animal like him.

Power, Speed, or Balanced backs?
Which halfback type do you prefer to work with? I'm a power back guy, give me a 230 pound plus beast who's going to run up the gut and truck would be tacklers. I have far less success with speed backs and I have trouble running to the outside.

Re: Power, Speed, or Balanced backs?
I feel like bulldozer backs are incredibly hard to find in this game, but I would take one any day of the week. Preferably I like to have one of each on the roster to allow for different types of play.Which halfback type do you prefer to work with? Re: Power, Speed, or Balanced backs?
Yeah it's hard to find them, as I said before I've never found anybody like Ben the Bull before. I've been thinking about converting a quick fullback to halfback, has anybody had success with that?Comment

Re: Power, Speed, or Balanced backs?
try recruiting TE's and converting them to FB....works like a charm :-)
Also, I prefer speed. I run alot around the tackles and toss plays. It is nice tho for your #2 back to be power so when the speed has tired the D, the power comes in and just runs over the DTs and LBs....its a great 1-2 combo.Comment

Re: Power, Speed, or Balanced backs?
I grew up in Chicago, Big 10 country so I prefer Power Backs........I remember back in the day I use to play as Penn St a lot just for Curtis Enis or Notre Dame when they had the "Bus" or as Illinois when they had Mendenhall.Comment

Re: Power, Speed, or Balanced backs?
Beaten to the punch. Most FBs that have been on my roster were lucky finds (79 OVR has me rated 1st in preseason, or most recent 83 Juco-Jr listing me top-3 in offseason phase). Recruit more than my share of TEs with many converted to FB or WR.
HBs? Cheezed and 'created' what I thought would be Bo Jackson's 'son' and signed him. Was fantastic but just shy of being a burner or a bruiser. Top OVR and more than happy as my starter. Back-up, ironically named Jackson as well, turned out to be a blazer w/o quite the same bruiser as the older Jackson. Only reason didn't win Heisman Sr yr was he went down for 7 wks with "torn shoulder" but returned for SEC and BCS championship wins. STILL won Walker Award and led nation in rushing with 1600+ yards.
HIS backup started as me utilizing him as a bruiser but his SPD kept improving a a greater clip through the years (why?) and by now he's dangerously fast if he gets the edge, able to maintain his edge w/o breaking away.
Seem to now look for the bruiser with a SPD ## that I guess at being 8 points faster by Sr year (w/ RS) resulting in a minim of 93-94. Just signed a low OVR guy tho but with 96 SPD. Hopefully his CAR and BVS aren't so low that his speed becomes useless (CAT and CIT are not good enough, so no, can't really count on 4-year development out there as wide-out).Comment

Re: Power, Speed, or Balanced backs?
I have great success with power backs. Since they are rare, I sometimes create two or three and I usually can land one of them. I usually make their rating a 73 with good btk and truckGT: notimetobleed77Comment

Re: Power, Speed, or Balanced backs?
Gotta go with the speed. Just outrun guys. Plus, power backs aren't as good as their real life counterparts since there's no real physics to take advantage of their strength.Originally posted by Kaiser Wilhelmthere should not be ties occurring in the NFL except when neither team wins the game.Comment

Re: Power, Speed, or Balanced backs?
I love big bruiser backs. I use the exact opposite of what most people seem to use (at least from the people I've talked to) in that I'll start a power back and then use a speedy/elusive back as my spell guy.
I've got a kid right now in my Ohio State dynasty named James Kimbrough. He's 6'1 and 235 lbs and is just a total bruiser. His trucking is around a 93 I think and he's pretty fast at 90. He's a senior though so I'll lose him at the end of the season

Re: Power, Speed, or Balanced backs?
I love the speed guy too, and maybe with the 'bruiser' I'm neglecting to consider that it may be Truck but my current guy (I mentioned in an earlier post) gives me a minimum of 1 'highlight' reel run during a game where he either combines dragging a few guys before breaking free or a run where some poor DB bounces off him before he heads down the sideline for 20+ yards. So, again, perhaps Truck is the key when looking for this type of back?Comment

Yep, on my dream team. #1 back is power. #2 is speed with hands.I love big bruiser backs. I use the exact opposite of what most people seem to use (at least from the people I've talked to) in that I'll start a power back and then use a speedy/elusive back as my spell guy.

Re: Power, Speed, or Balanced backs?
Speed, speed, speed, and more speed!!!!! I ve never seen a difference in breaking tackles between a good speed back and a big slower back.
I had a fullback that was big, like 242lbs and like 88 speed and he would get knock back all the time.
But then I had a guy that was a speed back 6'2" 205lbs and would get hit and always trigger the animation to fall forward.Comment
