Getting To Know Me
I’m 42 so the age where I can say I’ve played every college football video game ever created. I’m a diehard college football fan and this game was my #1 game since it debuted in the 90's. I’m a OCD level recruiter and roster management type. The type that’s writing down notes and thinking about my recruiting class while in church. Since I bought a PlayStation portal and can check stuff while at work this is a dangerous combination. I've prob been a member on OS for 20 years. If you follow the other threads you know I’m very active and all In on this game.

Posting Style
I like to post something every day during the week using a lot of pics and off the field storylines with short articles. My grammar isn’t going to be the best and my photo making skills are mid. I rarely will post game preview and I will do a lot of the table generators. In years past I’ve done some NBA 2K stuff on here and the last has top 25 all time views for that section

Backstory
I have a elaborate 5-part backstory doing my best Trek impersonation from the NBA threads. This story is a personal one to me and I'm going to keep some things a mystery until the 3rd part. The story is true and I'll likely start it up Monday.

YouTube
I have a small YouTube channel that is monetized however it has nothing to do with sports video games. Don’t worry this isn’t just something to get everyone to watch videos as my coverage on the forums will be the majority of what I post. But I do want to use it to fill in the gaps because some things like showing off my 35 man recruiting board. Its just going to be easier to make a 8 minute video then typing out all 35 prospects. The plan is to use it as a companion piece for what I post here. I'll prob wait and combine a few games into one video with edited gameplay.

Team builder / Custom Conferences
Team builder will be a major part of what I’m doing and I’ll be hand creating at least 12 teams and likely putting them in the Sunbelt. I initially picked the SunBelt as they were the only small conference with a title game, but sounds like I can change that. I went with more crazy and fun teams then realistic ones like North Dakota. You will see a lot of southern type teams from TV shows. All of the teams are stuff I’m personally passionate about. Since I’ll be changing jobs throughout this a strong chance I end up in this conference at some point. I’m also open to adding one of your teams if it fits if you have one your passionate about

Since I’m adding the teambuilder I have a list of teams I want to replace and they are not just in one conference. In general, I replaced the boring teams that have been around for a long time. With so many southern teams I picked teams in the general area of the new team. I dont plan on touching any of the major conferences for at least 1 year. Which means right away it will be figuring out the Smaller ones and combining after I figure out what’s leave from team builder. I’m going to let the PAC 2 hang around and may bring it back down the line.

Scheduling Out Of Conference
I would like to have one tough OOC game on the road against a top 25 team both rankings and toughest places to play. However that’s not a given as I want to keep those open for story telling purposes. I want to schedule teams where recruits that don’t pick me, past teams and potential future teams. If you have a favorite team let me know and maybe I can schedule them as I want to make this fun for everyone.

Re: Retro Redemption - Starting over with a oldschool PowerBone Offense (CFB25)

In House Rules

This is one that’s tough to project so it will require some testing/ tweaks once I get the game. Still I wanted to get it up and share what I had in mind at this stage in short this is a realistic dynasty when it comes to rules and play style

Draft
Any player rated 95 and higher I can’t convince to not go pro under any circumstance

Players rated 90-94 I can only convince to come back to school if they are a 4th-7th round pick

Players rated 80-89 I can only convince to come back to school if they are a 3rd-7th round pick or a redshirt sophomore

1st and 2nd round draft picks can't be convinced to come back to school

No cheesy ways to convince people to come back to school like “get a degree”

Roster
No redshirts once a player becomes a sophomore

No moving HB’s to FB unless special circumstances

When moving TE to FB will try and keep them 6’3 or shorter

Since my 1st school will be military I’ll be obeying by the real life transfer rules they have

No moving of players that don't fit just to get the min at that position

Play Limits
If it works like Madden I’ll be adding play limits and cool down time. This protects me from myself to avoid calling the same plays

My Skill

We all know the worst thing is when the user wins every game so that shouldn’t be the case here and don’t expect me to win the title year 2. In general my skill level prob somewhere in the middle. I don’t feel like I have to play on the hardest diffculty since I wont be running 4 verts or mesh every 3rd down.

Custom Playbooks
I’m beyond excited to get into this which I’ve teased the type of offense I’ll be running. A lot of testing will be going on here, but for now no shotgun formations and no 4 WR’s formations.

Recruiting
They say none will be needed, but we will see. Just to be safe no 4 or 5* for my 1st school is not allowed with no exceptions. The 3* will be limited to a certain amount but must be inside the top 5 preseason. The one exception to 3* is the FB position.

Coaching Carousel
I must stay at least 2 years at one of the OC jobs during this time I will only be playing offense. I will recruit for everyone and be realistic when placing athletes

I will hold off on joining the Big 10/SEC for a bit

When I jump to a new school it will be one that makes sense since I'm running a gimmicky offense. So think teams coming off some bad years in general I’ll use the system the game has to field offers and not force anything.

I’ll prob add specific house rules before I can jump like win totals and rushing stats

Will See How it works
If I can edit fictional recruits I'll open that up to yall to name 1 or two each season. If it happens just no real life pro player types.

Once I get better I may do one play the moments game per year only being able to jump in 3 times

Re: Retro Redemption - Starting over with a oldschool PowerBone Offense (CFB25)

Part 1 of 5 - Veer Option Master

The state of Georgia is well known for producing high school talent and if you did a poll it would finish in the top 5 in the country. However, if you aren’t from here you might not know it’s not spread evenly amongst the state. The North part isn’t the same as the Atlanta area which is king and even the southern part.

That’s why when Bill was deciding what offense to run in the 80s/90’s as the coach of Murray County high school. He went with the veer option style of offense because he didn’t have elite talent to work with. This offense allowed him to slowly move the ball with a few good offense players while slowing the game down. During his 24 years at the school many in the area called him the master of the veer offense.

He only had l two 1-A players to sign in his 16 years as head coach that I recall which was John Hall who spent 1 year at South Carolina. Then Joel Statham who started at Maryland for about a year throwing passes to Vernon Davis and most notable beating FSU.

The rivalry of small town high school football is something you can’t touch and it was no different with Murray County vs Dalton. Dalton was the neighboring city who almost always would beat Murray because they just had better talent. Dalton was viewed as the city slickers while Murray was the country farmers. Whenever the game was played Murray would drive tractors to school and everyone dressed in overalls. Like any good rivalry Dalton would eventually go on to copy the overall part when the teams played. I still remember like it was yesterday in 1999 Murray was down 19-0 with just a few minutes remaining. What’s known around here as “The Comeback” happened Blake Fowler hit the above mentioned Joel Statham for the game winning TD. Thanks to the power of youtube everyone seeing this can watch that.

What made Bill so beloved in the county wasn’t his coaching skills it was the quality of man he was. Bill was a strong man of faith and deacon at the 1st Baptist church. He was a quiet and laid back guy with a southern drawl who wouldn’t get excited if his pants were on fire. 100% of his players were better men for having spent time with him. His time as their coach didn’t end when they graduated if they needed it Bill would give them the shirt of his back.

In his first 11 years as a head coach things were going great with a 80-41-1 record so about 7-3 a year. That was highlighted from 99-01 a 29-8 record and a few region titles. However despite the record and clearly making the most out of the little talent he had Things would change soon after the 01 season both on and off the field.

Re: Retro Redemption - Starting over with a oldschool PowerBone Offense (CFB25)

Part 2 of 5 - The Firing

If you know how small town high school football works you know the fans are always eager to help you out on what plays you should be running. When you mix that with the old school veer option offense then it was even worse. Despite Bill consistently winning games with lesser talent It was always stuff like “you run the same 3 plays” and “throw the ball”.

The peak of Bill’s time was 99 to 01 he went 29-8 and won a few region titles. As we pointed out in part 1 pretty good for a team with extremely little 1-A players. The reality was despite being a legendry coach in the area he was under appreciated in large part because the "boring" offense he ran.

However, A lot of people from other countries had moved into the small town during this time frame. While this solved the labor issue for the carpet industry the downside was these students weren’t going to play football. Since the number of students grew that meant Murray got bumped up to AAAAA the highest classification in Georgia at the time. Which meant you had to play the Atlanta area teams and the skill gap was too much for the veer option offense to make up for. In those 3 years starting in 02 the record was a brutal 2-26. During the two years of 04 & 05 they got out of the higher classification and it was back to the winning ways

The good ol boys had finally complained enough about “that boring offense” and Bill was fired in 2006 after a winless season in the highest classification. He had his 30 years in so he would go to be OC for 9 years most of them at the rival Dalton we talked about earlier.

Oh yea if you're wondering in the 17 years since Bill was fired Murray has a record of 34-147 so a far cry from the 80-41 in his first 11 years. So maybe that boring offense wasn’t so bad after all

That wasn't the worst thing as in 2013 Bill was diagnosed with ALS better know as Lou Gehrig's disease

Re: Retro Redemption - Starting over with a oldschool PowerBone Offense (CFB25)

Part 3 of 5 - Goodbye

Bill was diagnosed with ALS in 2013 and as we all know it's not a pretty disease. He wasn't going to let that stop him and he continued coaching and having success as a OC. The last few years as a assistant coach they did special stuff like rent a cherry picker so he could still call plays and see the field.

Bill had 3 boys all of which played football for him at Murray County. Billy was the oldest and would go on start at QB in 1-AA at Furman. Matt played WR and was likely the least athletic of the 3. Then the youngest Kurt also would play 1-AA QB with less success then his older brother. They would all 3 get into coaching, but more on that later.

We mentioned in part 1 about his faith and the shining example he was to the community. That was no different when he was in his final stages of life and confined to a wheelchair. He about 400 people and former players he would send daily motivational text messages and scriptures to. This would go on till the day he died with the last of those being "In your heart you plan your life. But the lord decides where your steps will take you".

Bill would sadly pass away in 2017 at a way to young age of 60. The best quote was from a former assistant coach that said " He's up in heaven running the veer and telling his players to get downhill".

Just a few months after he passed away his oldest son Billy Napier would get his first head coach job at Louisiana Rajun Cajuns

editors note - I went to high school with Billy Napier and he was 2 years ahead of me in school. His mom still lives about 1 mile from me. I've attached 2 short videos about this from bigger outlets.
