you're playing NBA 2K a basketball simulation, you're not playing Street Fighter or some other fighting game where you can button mash and get somewhere with it...

you have to have skill to get into the lane in this game, it's not fully realistic when it comes to it (cpu has superhuman quickness) but it's still not NBA jam where you can drive through and dunk anytime you want

my suggestion you go to practice or drill mode and really get familiar with the control scheme, there is nothing any of us here can say that will make you a better driver in the game, it's just one of those practice makes perfect type of deals, put in work to get results simple

Practice, Practice, Practice. Every since 2K9, I always spent tons of time in Practice>Scrimmage mode. Very useful.

Use size-up and hesitation moves to try and get the defender off-balance. If you see your defender cheating one way, leaning one way, or reacting in one direction, IMMEDIATELY break off in the opposite direction.

One of my favorites is to walk or sprint toward the defender, hold LT and move the L-Stick backwards. From here, you have two options.

          1) If you have a player with good Shoot-Off-Dribble, you can pull up for a quick shot because the move will create separation.

          2) If you have a fast player and you think you have an opening, you can break out of that move at full speed and head towards the bucket. If the defense collapses in the paint and you don't think you can finish at the rim, pass it out to an open teammate and take the shot.

              Sigh...

That's basketball. Why do you expect a dunk every time? I'd just be happy I got the points. The only time I really WANT dunks are alley-oops and completely open fast breaks. And I hardly every throw intentional alley-oops because they can easily be blocked.

If you want dunks all over the place, put the sliders on casual, then you have a 100 "dunk in traffic" rating. Then turbo + shot button at the basket. I'd bet any amount of money that after a week of that you'll get bored. It's far more fun and satisfying to actually play REAL basketball.

Driving to the bucket shouldn't work all the time. Make sure you are calling plays, run a pick and roll or a pick and iso, run some iso plays for your best finisher at the basket, etc. You can't just charge in every time. You have to set something up. That or if you see an opening. Otherwise, PASS THE BALL to a more open guy. You can still drive as this might get more defenders on you leaving someone else open. Basketball is a team effort despite the worship of the "superstars" who can do anything. I notice that teams with a "superstar" often do better when that guy is using his presence to create shots for teammates and adding some scoring of his own. For example, my 76ers have Iggy (while not really a superstar, he is definitely hyped as a really great player). Past few games he hasn't scored much at all but we have been crushing teams because 5-6 guys have points in the high teens. When he tried to do everything himself in a few games at the start of the season we would go down in flames. When the scoring is coming from everywhere, it's hard to have an effective defense because you might get one guy locked down but they'll just pass it off to a now more open man and get the easy bucket.

You really just have to practice and figure out which moves you prefer. I'm comfortable with the Iso Spin, Crossover, and the double cross. I'm really just begining to love My Player with my Athletic PG since i've added the Spin. My man would always learn my cross, anticipate it and i'd get turnovers.

The jab-and-go is your best bet - especially driving to the jab side. You can usually get by the initial defender and into the middle this way. Unfortunately, though, your teammates on the perimeter will often follow you into the paint, dragging their defenders with them and screwing up floor-spacing.

Try triple threat explode and go jab steps etc. Heavy isolation and strictly right stick turbo will not do it. I would only recommend turbo on miss matches say if you have a center on a guard/small forward that is known for slashing and is quick.

Also remember that size moves have multiple progressions for the better drivers. Try holding L and pressing foward twice (takes some rhythm)... these chains are available on a lot of different sizeups, hesitations, and stepbacks and are very helpful in creating space.

They are also not mentioned anywhere in any of the 2k manuals.

Is there somewhere online that all of these moves are detailed with the controls that make them happen? Been playing the game for a couple days and I had no idea you could even do these, I was just holding in L2 and trying to go forward.

There is a stickied thread at the top of the forum with all the controls.

                              Re: How do you DRIVE????

Driving is certainly tougher this year, but I'm not sure it's for the right reasons. As in, the moves a player inputs and the results they receive aren't always something anchored in realism.

I understand I cannot take my man to the rack for the finish every single play. However, it's tough to figure out what works based on my defender's response this year. In 2K12, the only way I know I have my man beat is if I happen to make a random move and he sort of hops way over to beat me to a spot. If I'd luckily cued up a counter move, I'll be able to penetrate.

However, in my experiences with real basketball, I have found drives to the basket are usually not keyed by a defender wildly overplaying one of my maneuvers. Most times, it's a small bite, leading to a slip by. In 2K12, I often feel like I create these small bites. I'll get my computer defender to shift his weight just enough in one direction to create a small opening the other way. It's an opening that can be clearly recognized on the cyber-floor. The problem is, when I make my move and clearly beat my defender (either out of triple threat or off the dribble), he seems to develop this magic turbo backpedal ability that slides him perfectly balanced and right back in front of me mid-drive.

I think that's one of the bigger issues people are dealing with in terms of driving in 2K12 this year. It almost feels like knowing a secret code, because the logical cause-and-effect basketball plays aren't always adding up.
