ID the Mike?
How does this work? I read it in the manual but there was no tutorial for it. Is that the "c" that appears over some defenders pre play?Tags: None -
Re: ID the Mike?
LOL. I was just about to post this. Its not the "c". The C is a choice route. If the LB with the C blitzes, the RB will stay and block. If he doesnt, the RB will run a route.
I have no idea how to ID the mike and I cant find any info on it. -
Re: ID the Mike?
I asked this days ago......In the PDF manual it says you can and you also can choose who you want to double team block, but yet it doesn't tell you how to do it. I don't know if it is a hidden voice command or what......
So far I know it isn't the touch pad because I touched it all over the place and all that does is call a time out or send a man in motion.Comment

Re: ID the Mike?
Thanks Aaron. Glad I'm not the only one in the dark on this. Was starting to think I was missing something somewhere. Not sure why they'd talk this up without it being virtually invisible in game. Same for the double team blocking. I'd love to know how to pull that off.Comment

Dont feel bad, im pretty sure the CPU doesnt know how to double team block either. Thanks Aaron. Glad I'm not the only one in the dark on this. Was starting to think I was missing something somewhere. I signed Justin Houston in my offline CCM and was playing against the Pats.
2nd quarter and he already has 3 sacks (im playing on all pro with sliders and this is not the norm for me) and the CPU NEVER tried to double team him.
He MIGHT get a chip block from the HB or TE but that was it.Comment

Re: ID the Mike?
I figured that was their basic way to call out the mike? (and the choice routes are those routes where they have options as to what they can run based on the coverage? like the curl/post/out route)
From my understanding (and I could be wrong)...
On running plays the mike is called out for someone to block (depending on the play, such as if the FB or C assignment is to block the mike), or for specific RB instructions (run at/away from the mike.)
On passing plays it depends on the play of course, but the mike can be called for either the line adjustments (if the Mike is to the left the LG/C double the DT on the left and pick up the mike if he blitzes) or in some plays is called for the RB to let him know who to block if he blitzes, otherwise he can go out for a pass, which is what i interpreted the C icon to be on those plays.
Pretty basic overall if true because it only uses it on specific passing plays (and I haven't looked closely at the plays that use it so I don't know if there is any specific reason for it other than...lets give the RB a mike assignment on this play because it would be cool.)
If I am wrong, is identifying in the O-line audible menu? Otherwise I don't know what else it would be or how to use it.Last edited by joet6683; 11-27-2013, 02:22 PM.Comment

Re: ID the Mike?
The Mike is the same, don't matter if it is a passing or running play. It is the guy who is the center of the defensive front. The C is the potential blitzer the RB, FB or TE will be accountable for IF you choose to keep them in to block. IF you don't keep them in the backfield to block, then one of the free offensive lineman will pick that potential blitzer up if he blitzes.Comment

Re: ID the Mike?
this has the answers: EDIT - Forgot to say, answers as in it looks like it is automatic
IDENTIFY THE MIKE (PRE-SNAP TARGETING SYSTEM)
When I was an offensive lineman in the NFL, identifying the defense was the most important aspect of any good protection. As a unit, we would spend hours practicing and studying film on each opponent so that everybody knew how to properly identify each defensive front. You’ll see this on Sundays when Tom Brady or Eli Manning calls out the “Mike” by his jersey number before each play. He’s identifying the “Middle Linebacker” for the offensive line, but he’s doing it by the defensive alignment and using a number count system – not the actual depth chart position of each defensive player. Anybody on the field can be identified as the ‘Mike’, which is the fifth man the offensive line is responsible for blocking.
With the power of EA SPORTS IGNITE, we’ve replicated this system in Madden NFL 25 and it’s all done dynamically under the hood by the AI. Some of the information taken into account when choosing the Mike include includes the number of blockers available on the play (including running backs and tight ends), how many defenders are in the tackle box, and who poses the most dangerous threat to the QB, based on the defense’s alignment. The offensive line is able to continuously update this targeting until the ball is snapped to account for defensive shifts and movements.CHECK AND RELEASE PURPLE ROUTE
Since RB’s are such an integral part of pass protection, the team updated the legacy “Block & Release” blue-route to encompass this in an authentic manner. When a RB in the backfield has a purple route, he will stay in the protection to block his target if that target is rushing the QB. The RB will not release into his route unless his target has dropped into coverage, and the offensive line will not block his target under any circumstances. If you want to know which defender is being targeted by your purple-route RB, simply toggle the Coach Cam art. The target will be denoted by a purple ‘C’ icon above his head.Last edited by joet6683; 11-27-2013, 02:43 PM.Comment

Re: ID the Mike?
Yeah I saw that already......but in the manual it says the following:
So according to that, it implies YOU the USER can control those things.Depending on the situation you might plan your footwork around the defenders, decide how deep to pass set, or select to double team players.Comment

Re: ID the Mike?
i have always waited until the center did his pointing thing to snap the ball because i think it helps the blocking.Comment

Re: ID the Mike?
This is the answer right here....and I hope that EA didnt try to sell this as a new feature because its been in Madden for years now.......And it allegedly is suppose to help give a boost to the Line blocking by simulating the read and pickup of the center calling out the blocking assignments before the snap
Maybe now they've repackaged it as ID'ing the Mike.....Oh EA, how clever!Comment
