NBA Live Executive Producer: There will be an NBA Live 16 (Polygon)

Owen Good at Polygon penned a great article this weekend talking about the future of the NBA Live series. Sean O'Brien, the executive producer of NBA Live 15, has several very interesting quotes within the article which speak directly to the future of the franchise.

The most interesting quote comes in the first parts of the article where O'Brien answers Owen's question on whether there will be an NBA Live 16 or not, "Guaranteed. We've already started development on 16. We're staffing up. We're actually increasing investment on what 16 — and 17 — look like."

This is especially good news since EA is in its final year of its agreement with the NBA. If indeed Live sticks around, time will likely lead it into a pretty good direction in the future. Much of the article was spent downplaying NBA Live 15's potential though.

Some quotes from O'Brien:

"Part of me wishes people could hear the conversations I'm in. I wish I could snap my fingers and it would be two years from now."

"We're a work in progress."

"It's a long term strategy. Building a high-definition game is not easy. I think the game we're creating is dfferent, and I think as we mature as a product, you'll see that difference come out more and more."

Nice read. What I take from it, is that Live 15 is a WIP game, and something like "don't expect too much, but next year we will give you a great game, and the following year - even better".

Not sure it helps to market 15.

Yes....strange way to promote a game being released in a few days.

Basically saying "game is not so good...missing tonnes of stuff...but, wait until 2017 and see what we do then!". Ummmm...you are charging full price for a WIP?

I understand their 3-year plan thing (not a fan, but understand), but it seems like every year is the first year of this 3-year plan...

I think it's becuase they keep having people leave before the 2nd or 3rd year.

I'm not feeling this at all

Basically he's saying this game is not what it should be which to me says this game is not gonna be very good. Just my .2

EA has to quit making excuses. Why put out a half-baked product and want the consumer to spend $60??

Cut the price down to $39 would be fair imo. Well if it turns out to be average or below the price drop will happen sooner than later anyway

Yeah, it did sound a bit disheartening. But with the disappointing state of Live 14, how much of an overhaul could they do in 1 development cycle? From most of the media outlets who have had an opportunity to play it seem to have come away with a positive feeling. Even describing it as having a solid foundation to now build on. I am optimistic.

Honestly, this isn't anymore disheartening as it is remorseful. I truly believe he's been playing the underdog card for 15. All of this is a good sign because in reality EA is at a standstill till 15 is out. After reading this and listening to the podcast with him. I do believe his EA team is taking the same direction as the Madden team. Creating their base of next gen identity for the series future starts now with Live 15!

Good interview. He isn't saying Live 15 will be a bad game or incomplete, it's a game that's building towards the future. It might not be the best game ever which is understandable, but it will compete and showcase what we can look forward to in the future. From a business standpoint, it's here is our product, we think it's solid and an indicator of what the future holds which we will continue to build upon it given more time. Of course he is going to say that Live 16 and Live 17 will be better games, it's common sense that the more time they have to build and spend the game will continue to become better.

Lets play Live 15 before we judge the game and comment the game won't be any good. Play the demo for yourself and make your own judgement, if you like it buy it or if you don't like it then don't buy; it is that simple and no need for a 100 reasons why EA is trying to take your money and soul away. I am not calling out anybody in this thread but these past couple of weeks have been comedy with all the tin-foil conspiracy about this game. Anyways, lets see some game play tomorrow.

I'd say the blind faith and do no wrong posts have been just as much comedy, lol

The article is out there for interpretation...doesn't seem like anyone's making any judgements...just commenting on the article...I'm still going to check out the demo regardless..

Lol ha ha. Do doubt. Wasn't commenting too much on this thread rather than threads that have gone on lately. Live doesn't have the benefit of the doubt with gamers and rightfully earned, but let's not go out and this say death to the series as some people have been saying. Checking out the demo and making a decision is the best way to inform yourself.

Def lots of the underline coming from struggle Live apologists. Its sad that these apology blogs keep churning out whether its devs blogs or media reiterating devs interviews etc. Not one gameplay vid of substance without interruption has been shown from devs themselves.
