The Long, Hard Road to the World Cup (FWC2014)

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to my most arduous video game undertaking ever.

A longtime user and fan of this site, I feel it's time to give something back.

Thus, my friend Ty and I will be simulating every game on the road to the 2018 World Cup (with, of course, the FIFA World Cup 2014's in-game rosters). We will be authentically following real-life qualifiers as best as possible (no Gibraltar, of course), but we'll be simulating every game and providing full match recaps.

This is a bro moment, and for the small yet active FIFA community on here, we do hope you'll enjoy these games as much as we do.

While this isn't a career mode in the BHurst mould, or a stats-crunching sim like OlliDegu's solid ones, it's something that I hope the OS community will engage with.

So by all means, follow up, comment, and let us know if you'd like to see certain teams play certain players, formations, etc.!*

    Cheers!

    * - be forewarned that we won't actually be simulating teams featuring any known countries for at least the first few weeks. We'll be starting with CONCACAF Round 1 matchups, featuring:

    Bahamas v. Bermuda
    British Virgin Islands v. Dominica
    Barbados v. US Virgin Islands
St. Kitts & Nevis v. Turks & Caicos
    Nicaragua v. Anguilla
    Belize v. Cayman Islands
    Curacao v. Montserrat

      CONCACAF Round 1, Leg 1

      Bahamas v. Bermuda
      (Real-life result: 0-5

      Bahamas: 0.5-star, 58 attack, 49 midfield, 49 defence.
Key Player: Lesly St. Fleur, ST, Montego Bay United (Jamaica)

      Bermuda: 1-star, 57 attack, 56 midfield, 53 defence.
Key Player: Nahki Wells, ST, Huddersfield (English Championship)

Two pretty terrible teams met in Nassau, and they duked it out in pretty uninteresting fashion in the opening leg of their home-and-away. Bahamas set up with a 5-4-1, while the slightly more talented Bermuda opted for a 4-3-3 with plenty of (relative) pace on the flanks. The result was a 0-0 draw, with a grand total of zero shots on target. Tackles were dead even at 16 apiece. There really wasn't much separating these two nations, and the second leg could very well go all the way to penalties. St. Fleur had a few half-chances for Bahamas, while Wells was quiet for Bermuda. Hoping for a more entertaining second leg.

      ----------------------
      British Virgin Islands v. Dominica
      (Real-life result: 2-3

British Virgin Islands: 0.5-star, 43 attack, 40 midfield, 41 defence.
Key Player: Christopher Telemaque, ST, Bethany College (US Amateur)

      Dominica: 0.5-stars, 56 attack, 52 midfield, 52 defence.
Key Player: Glenson Prince, GK, San Juan Jabloteh F.C. (Trinidad&Tobago)
