    NBA Live 16 Animation Feedback

Okay, so I've seen a lot of talk in the threads about animations that need to be removed or altered, and I'm making my own list, but crowdsourcing feedback would allow me/us to get as many of these as possible listed for me to present to EA.

So, that being said, this can't be a place where you come in and shout "animations suck! 16 bit rawr rawr!," because that doesn't help anyone. What I need is this: if you've gone through the pre-release footage/played the demo and found an animation you think looks particularly bad, link the video in this thread along with a general timestamp and a short description of what I should be looking for like "#3 is under the basket and does a hook shot without looking at the rim."

I will then review the footage, chop out gifs of the offending animations, and collect them all in an imgur library for us to present to the devs. I'll link the library here as I build it for everyone to review so I can make sure we're getting the right ones, and we'll use this as a place to point out the biggest offenders. I cannot guarantee that this means that ANY of these will get fixed, as that is something that is beyond my control, but it will get to people whose job it is to handle this stuff.

I'm going to have more threads like this for more things in the future, so please don't clutter this thread with other stuff. There can be some light discussion on the examples posted (I do want this to be collaborative), but long diatribes about EA or why can't they do this or whatever will just be deleted, so don't waste your energy.

I'm fighting for the sim heads in here, and I know there are a ton of you who are concerned with animation quality, so thanks in advance for making yourselves heard!

I'm working on the imgur album now, but the following has already been posted to it: https://youtu.be/cEqgoFbiEHA?t=5m22s

The layup attempt at 5:24 has no foot planting and no awareness of the basket. Here's the gif:

The album has now been created. It is located here.

Thanks for this price...would you like examples of the transitional stuff as well? Or is this strictly for "bad animations"...?

What do you mean by "transitional stuff"? Post an example and I'll let you know.

I'm going to have more of these threads for other parts of the game as well, so it may wind up getting covered there, but I'd want to see what you mean before I say for sure.

        here is one

I believe he means the in between motion from animation to animation.

God, I want to contribute but I don't even know where to start. That Rising Star video was marred with poorly tuned user controlled animations as well, as poor ball physics and ball/rim interactions.

          So disappointing.

There doesn't seem to be a consistency of animation speed. You will have this really nice accurately weighted dribble animation as you bring your player up the court then will jump into warp speed as you make some awkward looking pass to the wing. I don't get it.

This possession is a perfect example:
          Cubs | Bulls | Dolphins | 'Noles
The artist formerly known as "13"
"Heroes get remembered, but legends never die..."

I have like a 5 second window for gifs. Specifically, which animation is the one you'd like to see changed? The layup at 8:24? I can see that the ball is moving a lot faster than it should, but that's not really what I'm looking for. I'm just trying to be as hyper-specific as possible so I can present the information in a clear and concise way.

Great idea. If the demo has a replay mode, it's going to be much easier to showcase poor animations.

For anyone wanting to do a gif instead, use the following free website. Simply find a youtube video and paste the link into the below website. Create a gif ranging from 1 to 20 seconds. I have been having fun creating gifs. But please also do what MrPrice suggested and post the video and time stamp.

Embedding youtube video for those that don't know. Probably more useful as we can enlarge the full to full screen size plus the quality is usually better than creating a gif.

You can also use either console's internal recording feature to contribute to this thread. But minimally, all I need is a link and a timestamp and something to look for. I'm trying to make it as easy as possible for you guys.

Well really you can make a couple different gifs.

The passing animations and speed of passes are awful. And yeah, the layup is a definitely WTF was that moment.

The point was to highlight the difference between a canned motion captured animation (PG bringing ball up the court) which looks great and then what happens when user control ensues. No consistency whatsoever.

three minute mark, look at how he attacks and tell me his feet and speed towards the basket makes sense to you.

full screen it and watch, when its small video its not as glaring lol

Are you talking about the layup attempt by #8 after the offensive board?

My bad. Now that I see what you are looking for, I will be more definitive in my analysis when pointing out these animations. Definitely support what this thread is going to attempt to accomplish.

In regards to the layup, you will notice there is no actual load animation. The player goes from flat footed, then slides/warps awkwardly and is miraculously in the air performing a jump hook. Also note that even though the defender has position, there is no contact and the player slides right past him, leaving the defender to jump at nothing.
