Did Live 14 permanently damage Lives reputation?
In my eyes lives unable to suceed has been almost 100% because of Live 14. Live 14 was probably the most hyped up live in recent years since it was "the return" when it came out with poor gameplay and awful graphics, It ruined peoples views on Live. I think this is a big reason why everyone comments "Looks like a PS2 game" on NBA live 16 videos, because everyone just think live sucks without even trying it now. Live 16 wasn't a great game yes, but it is far better then what everyone acts like it is.Tags: None -

I thought the player movements of Live 14 and significantly with Live 16 were an absolutely major improvement over NBA Live 10. Live 10 may have been praised for its gameplay but with regards to animations, Live 10 is no where near the level of 14 and definitely not 16. It could very well have been the newer graphics, but I couldn't stomach Live 10 because the animations were so poor. I at least managed to enjoy both Live 14 and Live 16 demo because the movements were a major improvement. In my eyes lives unable to suceed has been almost 100% because of Live 14. I actually thought Live 16 had a touch of the other basketball game player movements to it. Live 16 still requires animation polish or overhaul during their jumping sequences but overall it's a massive improvement (player movement wise) over the robotic Live 10. Gameplay concern with Live 16 includes easy inside buckets, awkward looking layups and awkward looking hooks shot and other animations around the rim, and not enough midrange game. I do realize the game of basketball has changed, but when the graph charts only a couple midrange shots in 16, that's concerning.
Live 10 (don't know why Giphy slows down Live 10 player movements so much. real gameplay footage shows much more robotic Live 10 player movements).

Live 16 (I don't know why GIPHY makes the Live 16 speed up so fast, it's not that fast during regular gameplay footage).

I Think when you try to sell people on a "3 year development" process but seemingly re-boot each year.... it puts a lot of people off.My All-time Favourite players is order:
1.Larry Johnson
2.Kevin Garnett
3.Blake Griffin
4.Ben Wallace

Current Live games have ZERO connection to NBA Live 10, not sure why its still being referenced.Comment

Re: Did Live 14 permanently damage Lives reputation?
It's REFERENCED because it's part of the EA umbrella of games released.
It's REFERENCED because supposedly that was the last best EA NBA basketball released.
It's REFERENCED because people say Live 10 is better than any Live basketball game released for the new consoles.
I REFERENCED it because the player movements in 14 & 16 are significantly better than Live 10.
People REFERENCE history because one needs to understand history before going forward.
EDIT:
Yeah, let's not reference Live 10. Looks like there is a pretty significant connection. "Zero connection" ... more like definite connection.
Jonah Ballow catches up with Sean O'Brien, lead producer for NBA Live 10 to find out how EA Sports revamped the video game this year and a first glance at the virtual Jonny Flynn. NBA Live 10 will hit stores on October 6.The executive producer of EA Sports upcoming NBA Live 14 release posted an open letter to fans explaining his hopes for the NBA Live series and how he's working to make it competitive with the NBA 2K games.
Sean O'Brien posted the letter on the EA Sports website explaining the steps he took to begin the creation of a new NBA Live game [NBA Live 14]
"The first thing that I wanted to do when I got to Orlando was set the direction for the team. After playing and evaluating the state on NBA Live and talking to as many people as I could, I realized that the overall vision was slacking."
Ravi Sinha: NBA Live 14 will be the first game in the series since 2009’s NBA Live 10. Firstly, what prompted the desire to bring back the series?
Gary Paterson: Clearly everyone knows that we have made a few missteps with the franchise in the past years, but we still feel like EA SPORTS has the technology, passion and experience to create a great basketball game. With the advent of the new console generation it was the perfect time for us to reset and rebuild. Using the technology of EA SPORTS IGNITEand with a new leadership team taking the game in a new direction, we’re excited to be bringing back NBA LIVE.SpoilerLETTER FROM NBA LIVE 14 EXECUTIVE PRODUCER SEAN O’BRIEN
I’m not going to lie; it’s been a rough week. As you can imagine, this isn’t exactly the NBA LIVE comeback story we were hoping for this year.
We hear loud and clear that some of you are disappointed in various aspects of NBA LIVE 14, and I’m sorry if the game doesn’t live up to your expectations. Looking at your feedback, we have laid out a plan to make NBA LIVE 14 a better game as quickly as we can.
First, you’ve told us that the game is too hard to learn, and that the only way to figure it out is through frustrating trial-and-error. As a result, we are working on improving the way the game teaches the controls and on-boards new users. We realize that every single one of you is a new user and know we need to make the game easier to understand and simpler to pick up and play.
We’re also conducting an ongoing series of Twitch Live Streams to teach the skills that will help make your game experience a better one. We have our producers and designers online seven days a week to answer your questions and to offer other helpful game advice. Additionally, we’ve posted Controller Guide, Perfecting Your Style and Levels of the Dribble blogs on the NBA LIVE website which we hope will help you with basic offense, defense, play calling and more.
We’re not going to stop there. You’ve also let us know that you’re disappointed by the graphics and animations, and I can tell you that we are committed to making drastic and immediate improvements. In order to get gameplay up and running this year we had to prioritize. We felt authentic gameplay, control and the connected experience would provide the best foundation for the future. As a result, game visuals and animation polish suffered. Improvements on these fronts are also in development now for NBA LIVE 14. You will notice in the coming weeks and months that the game’s visuals and animation will improve significantly.
A goal from the start was to stay relevant to the ongoing NBA season and evolve your gaming experience. We’ve been hearing that you love LIVE Season, and many of you are having a lot of fun with BIG Moments. We’re really glad to hear you’re enjoying the mode, and rest assured we will continue updating LIVE Season with new BIG Moments and NBA Rewind games every single day of the season. We’ve also gotten a lot of great feedback on LIVE Ultimate Team, and we’ve still got some big announcements and major additions coming down the road, so stick around for that.
Let me wrap up with this; for those of you who have supported us throughout this development cycle and continue to have our backs now, thank you. We’ve got a lot of work to do; I’ve got a lot of work to do. It started 12 months ago, and continues until we build this franchise bigger and better than it ever was. This is just the first chapter in the NBA LIVE comeback story.Last edited by strawberryshortcake; 09-13-2016, 02:29 PM.Comment

Re: Did Live 14 permanently damage Lives reputation?
While Live 14 fell short of expectations, I don't think it permanently damaged Live's reputation. What's harmed Live's rep is EA Sports' inability over six years to release a truly tight game with solid gameplay since Live 09 and Live 10.
That said, I do agree that Live 16 is better than it seems to most people--in recent days, I've even noticed some good changes to gameplay in ProAm/LiveRun. But overall the game isn't even close to being great.
I am pulling for Live 17 to be the best yet, but I'm probably not as optimistic as some of Live's fanboys on Twitter and YouTube.

Re: Did Live 14 permanently damage Lives reputation?
Live 11, 12 and 13 damaged the games reputation. That fact that live 11 got pulled days before release told fans EA had no faith in the game. Then they don't even announce a 12 and say they are reworking things just to give us some crappy videos for 13 and another game that didn't see the light of day. It wasn't Live 14 that did it it was the three years between 10 and 14 that killed the series. It's 'Sconnie not wiscy!!!!!Comment

Re: Did Live 14 permanently damage Lives reputation?
Yeah, Live didn't damage Live, NBA Elite 11 did. Putting a hockey guy in charge of a basketball series damaged Live and the legacy of Michael Jordan did Live in. It all created the perfect storm to derail this franchise.Comment

Surprising thing is once I mastered the controls in the demo for Elite I actually kind of enjoyed it. I played it a lot for a demo and I was disappointed I was never able to recreate Jesus BynumIt's 'Sconnie not wiscy!!!!!Comment

Re: Did Live 14 permanently damage Lives reputation?
EA Sports' poor development of an NBA video game, alongside the well successful development of the NBA 2K series, damaged Live's reputation.
With this series, having the NBA license wasn't enough. It was clear that 2K Sports, after they lost the NFL license to EA Sports, focused their resources on developing a basketball game that would later prove to be a huge hit. You could even argue that NBA 2K would hurt 2K's versions of hockey and baseball. It was clear that 2K wanted to deliver on basketball and they did.
That put a huge burden on the Live series. But EA Sports' handling of Live was sloppy. They abandoned Live instead of holding true to its history. The awkward "Elite" attempt was the icing on the cake. Meanwhile, another title was doing much better and building a steady base.Being kind, one to another, never disappoints.Comment

Hoping to see a solid effort with the extra development time they're getting this year. Releasing next year may just work in their favor...Comment
