Around 8 minutes and 45 seconds is a good example.

Anyone notice that the ball does not appear to be coming from his hand properly and is glitching or morphing at release? This was a big issue in earlier MLB The Show games as more pitchers had this issue but in recent years has not been as bad. So far from all the early release videos I have seen this is the only bad delivery animation, and I remember last year this was not an issue. Also it sucks that it is for an elite pitcher that a lot of people will want to use. Any chance this can be fixed before release?

Yeah but the animation was not an issue last season, and these sort of issues have existed in every year of the Show on the PS3/PS4 with some pitching delivery animations. I hope that someone notices it and can fix it, or replace his pitching animation with the one from last year.

Yeah that's why now is the time to bring it up though, what good does it do bringing it up after the game is finished when changes can't be made.

So if the game developers don't notice it, then nothing can be done.

...Either way i don't really see anything wrong with the delivery, i don't see any morphing or anything?

I see it..almost like a frame rate glitch type of thing..I doubt it makes the final version..and in that facebook video they said it was an earlier version that didn't have some of the tweaks so I wouldn't worry

It is a known issue with the pitching deliveries from past games too. Pitching deliveries need reworking in general!

Yep, I was hoping this would have been fixed. So far the only delivery that I have seen have this issue is Synderrgard's the rest of them look a lot better. This issue is something that in my opinion is really bad and a huge distraction because you are going to be looking at the hand and the ball when watching the pitcher throw his pitch to try and read it.

From what I remember last year Synderrgard's delivery was fine so if this animation cannot be fixed can they just put last year's wind up in the game? When Synderrgard throw's from the stretch it is fine.

Maybe it's me, but I don't see any issues with it at all. I think it looks pretty amazing.

It's hard to see in this video because of the quality of the video and size of the screen. But watch whenever Synderrgard throws a pitch when no runners are on base.

Watch his hands at release point and where the ball comes from. It's more noticeable on pitches that are high and inside. The ball does not appear to be coming directly from his hand.

The issue is that this has been an issue with The Show series for years, basically ever since it has been on PS3/PS4 and although the animations have been getting better and all of the other animations this year look better it would really suck if they messed Synderrgard's up. Especially since his last year was fine.

That example is the many reasons why i always play using hitters cam. Pitchers animations in general are bad in this game. They are throwing in slow mo and just look bad compared to everything else. Can't really say they will fix it since it is a known issue and they never addressed it as a problem.

I think you have to have really good to excellent vision to see the flaws, except the open-handed claw they put in '16.
Was this changed back for '17? I sure hope so.

If anyone wants to see this glitch in 2016, use Steven Matz on the Mets. He has this glitch happen where the ball does not release properly out of his hand on pitches. Check out this video at around 5 minutes and 30 seconds.

I see want you are saying about the arm release and ball not in sync, but the "animation" itself was definitely an issue/concern in 2016 and prior years. In fact, the majority to all pitchers in the show has the same legacy issue/concern.

Legacy issue/concern: Pitcher's arm speed follow through has always been too slow in MLB the Show. Pitchers don't actually look like they're throwing 90+ mph fastballs because the motion capture artist doesn't throw the ball with enough power.

My educated guess: Rather than re-mocap pitching motion, they are compensating by changing the timing or spacing of their pitching animations. And because the timing of when the ball leaves the pitchers hand is still tied to the older "slow" delivery system, what you see is a subtle glitch. My educated guess is that they will need to rework the speed at which the ball leaves pitcher's hands.

My opinion: Syndergaard's link in the opening post's arm speed (or whip of the arm) actually looks infinitely better than any previous MLB the Show iteration, and more realistic. Now, they need to work on the entire body's follow through including leg kick, torso rotational follow through.


2016 MLB the Show Syndergaard's pitching animation may look "fluid," but it's definitely not realistic. The "standard blueprint" to MLB the Show pitchers has always been on the slow side and unfortunately that's a major problem because it doesn't capture the true essence of a pitch (high velocity, force, strong arm whip and follow through, etc).

Notice the speed of the arm whip. In MLB 17 Syndegaard, it is attempting to fix the arm whip speed, in turn, affecting the "slow" release of the ball, in what looks like a glitch.


EDIT: The further along in the stream I watch, maybe they didn't fix it and it was in fact a glitch. I'll have to rewatch it, but the whip of the arm speed doesn't look like a dramatic improvement at all. Maybe next year they'll fix pitcher's deliveries.

The video you posted from last year his release and delivery looks a lot better. You can actually properly read pitches out of his hand based on the video you linked.


Hopefully they fix this before release, or change his delivery back to the animation from last year, or it looks better when actually playing the game at 60FPS on the PS4 as opposed to watching a stream.

I agree that pitching animations need to look like they are putting in higher effort or throwing harder, but I think that making sure the ball properly comes out of their hand should be the most important thing. The ball glitching out of a pitchers hand makes it so you cannot read a pitch, distracts the batter and it looks awful as well.
