Your biggest failure on College Hoops 2k8?

I was wondering what was your biggest failure on College Hoops 2k8.

Mine would be the time I coached a 97 overall Georgia Tech team that was almost all freshmen and sophomores. I coached this team for 5 seasons and never made it past the sweet sixteen. The teams overall never dipped below 90.

I don't remember my teams overall, but a few seasons back, I had a run of going to back-to-back National Championship games. I lost both of them by ~6-10 points, and it made me wonder if my other wins were flutes. I won one my first ever season with Clemson with the '09 rosters (still don't know how) and a second in my 6 or 7 season with Kentucky. (It was against Indiana, a good team I tried to have rivalry games with once I started coaching Kentucky, but stopped because we always blew them out and I knew during the title game it was going to happen again)

I spent the first 7 years of my legacy at Chattanooga. The first year I won like 11 or 12 games. The next year I believe I finished right at .500. Then year 3 I finished 18-14 and I believe I made the conference championship game, but it's been so long I don't remember for sure. Then the next 3 years I finished 1st or 2nd in the conference each year and made the title game and I believe won 2 in that span. My 7th and final year there I had built a team that was around an 80 overall which is great at that conference level, but my success had brought the other team's in the league up. The Citadel had one of my former coaches and they were around a 76-78 overall team. That 7th year I was undefeated all the way until the conference championship where my former assistant topped me. I then only won one tournament game before exiting in the 2nd round. I decided it was time to move up and took the Gonzaga job. In the next 3 years I never even got to 20 wins at Gonzaga despite having the best roster in the league all 3 years.

That was a legacy my buddy and I played together. He went from Southeast Missouri to someone else after 3-4 years, then lasted 3 more years before taking the George Mason or Washington job. I can't remember. That legacy was 6-7 years ago.

I just could never have success at Gonzaga. The team wasn't built like my Chattanooga teams and I struggled making them work. The final year we played I had a freshman PG I had recruited that was averaging 20 pts and around 12 assists a game along with 5 or 6 steals. I was on pace to actually win more than 20 games, but the legacy just lost steam and we never touched it again. The PG's name was Cannon and he was 5'9" and had an afro. Kid was incredibly quick and was my only reason for success.

Edit: When I say title, I mean conference only. I had one lucky run make the sweet 16 when LSU lost half their team to injury.

In Open Legacy i was with Hawaii until 2024 or so and i never managed to win a Championship. Was runner-up 2(3?) years in a row, it did help that some great high school players came out of Hawaii but i never quite got over the top

Leaving Oklahoma for Duke because of the name of the school. I was dominating recruiting in the Big 12 and on top of that, I lost my roster

My biggest failure happened a couple weeks ago. I've had this legacy going for about 7 years and got about 32 seasons in. I had 850+ wins and was well on my way to get to 1000 wins. I won double digit championships and had a few national players of the year.

Anyways, I accidentally saved over it and didn't have a backup save file

Year 4 of my closed legacy (So 2011, I believe)... I guided Gonzaga to an undefeated regular season & conference tournament run led by superstar NPOY Austin Daye (He was absolutely unstoppable: great shooter with the handles to get past anyone, and at 6-11 in mine he could finish better than most big men). We won our first two games of the NCAA's to make it to the Sweet 16 against #4 seeded Kansas. We lost 77-72 to finish the season at 35-1. That team had it all, multiple 7 footers, great defenders, sharpshooters, playmakers... but just could not get it done against the Jayhawks.

I ended up leaving for UCONN a year later and won 3 titles there, and then 2 more at Ohio State (dream job), with plenty of All-Americans and Final Four runs in between. But never forgot about that loss. My best team in any sports game to not win it all.

In year 4 or 5 of my closed legacy, I ran the table through the regular season with SELA. My schedule wasn't crazy but I beat LSU plus two top 25 teams Houston and Tennessee to finish the regular season 31-0. In the first round of my conference tourney, I lost to the 8 seed Texas A&M Corpus Christi. That game not only lost me the Southland Conference's automatic bid but I ended up not getting an at large bid so there I sat in the NIT at 31-1. The kicker is, I lost my first round NIT game to Hofstra. I left for Eastern Michigan the following offseason, leaving SE Louisiana on a two game losing skid.

I've lost hundreds of games in 2k8, this one still sticks with me. For a few season I scheduled Texas A&M Corpus Christi, I ran it up every time I played them.

No at-large bid with a 31-1 record? What was your team's RPI?

It's been a few years I don't remember, I do know that I was never in the top 25 and was only #4 in the mid major poll. At the time I was trying to finish the unlockable for beating every team on the game so I filled my schedule with a ton of mid/low majors that I was yet to beat so I'm sure it was low. My scheduling strategy was 3 or 4 in state teams and then fill it out with teams I still hadn't beat.

In season 5 of my open Legacy with Nebraska I put together a pretty respectable 81 overall team. Had some bumps in the road and a few injuries, but we finished 20-13 (8-8 in Big XII play) and made it to the conference championship game against Kansas (lost). We had beaten 5 ranked teams during the regular season, including a 3-game season sweep of Texas A&M who ended up a #2 seed in the tournament.

I ended up with no postseason. No NCAA bid and no NIT invite. What did I do wrong? I thought that kinda season would AT LEAST get me an 11-seed in the NCAA or a 4-seed in the NIT.

Made the NIT the next season with a 19-15 record. Big XII record was 7-9, which was worse than the 8-8 the previous season. Go figure.

Biggest failure would probably be leaving my small to mid schools to go BCS....its not that I couldn't win, its just that there was seemingly a lot more disconnect with talent once heading upward...to the point where I just felt like I did not have as much of a connection with the game.

Not me personally, but was talking with my cousin about this topic. Told me he had a Hoosiers squad that resembled the early 90s squads. Roster full of in state talent. Could win games in the 90s and 50s if eed be. Core group had been getting major minutes if not starting since they were freshman. Combined conference record of 48-6 over their sophomore, junior, and senior seasons with three straight outright conference titles. Three straight #1 seeds. Three straight Elite Eights. Including a loss to a Cinderella 15 seed in that group's last season. He was so disheartened by it he kind of just quit playing the game lol.
