    NASCAR Heat 3 Impressions

I have a feeling that when people get their hands on this new title, we are going to need an impressions thread -

Picked this up this morning after going without a NASCAR game for a long *** time.
Ran a couple challenges and a couple online races at 'dega.
Seems pretty smooth. Not noticing much lag.
You can lose the draft in a hurry with no hope whatsoever of catching back up...
I could probably enjoy this game

Would love to hear some impressions from someone using a controller. F1 2018 on PS4 is wonderful with a controller. Wouldn't mind trying some Nascar racing and this has me intrigued but I don't have a wheel.

        Thanks!

          Thanks!
I'm currently using a controller and it feels sensitive enough for NASCAR on ovals, but you can feel its limitations on the dirt tracks.

To be fair I'm coming at this a little rusty.
A regular controller racer might have a different opinion

Real quick impressions based on Quick Race, game is still installing.

Game looks great on the PS4 Standard, frame rate is actually quite smooth. Can't wait to test this on my PS4 Pro when I get home in couple of days, if it's 60fps on the Pro I'm going to be in heaven. (Speaking of, does anyone know if NH3 supports 4K or HDR?)

NH3 plays great on a controller. Then again, they all have so far in my opinion, even the first game.

The jumbotron at Charlotte is still static. At this point I'm not even going to complain about that because it feels like 704 has done so much right with this iteration. The third time really could be the charm for this series.

-Still have to use quick qualify if you want to be able to see who won the pole regardless of where you qualify
-Still can't cycle through qualifying/race results manually
-Still no intervals/laps led/fastest laps on race results

                Re: NASCAR Heat 3 Impressions

                A few post-install impressions:

Visually, this series has come quite a long way over the last three years, and still on the Unity engine I'm assuming. NHE was barely last-gen quality (check out the NHE vs. NASCAR 09 videos if proof is required), now we have proper lighting, reflections, etc. It's not Forza by any stretch, but at least we finally have a current-gen NASCAR game.

Career Mode looks like it's going to be the place to be this year. They really went for the whole "Dirt to Daytona" vibe, and it's impressive. And YES!, you can finally name your career driver. At long last, Dirt To Daytona: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby story can be told.

Speaking of dirt, the smaller circuit dirt tracks are a total blast to race on. I've come across a bit of stuttering when the dirt and particle effects are heavy, but I'm still playing on my Standard and not the Pro.

It's weird seeing 160,000 at a small dirt track event in Bristol when they're not drawing that many at a real-life MENCS event, seeing a few events at half-full stadiums would definitely add to the authenticity.

No DNFs as far as I can tell. I was involved in a nasty crash where I ended up on my hood and the car just sort of magically rolled itself over.

Spotter audio is just sorta there, not much improvement over last year from what I can tell.

I'm not seeing where you can disable driver name ID's while racing. I'm really hoping this made in it this year as it's a bit of an immersion killer seeing driver's names pop up over their car whenever I get close.

I just bought it, wanted to use my T150 force feedback wheel and I can not get the system to know it's there to calibrate. Is anyone having this issue, can anyone suggest how I may be able to get my wheel working with the game as it worked great in NH2

                    Re: NASCAR Heat 3 Impressions

I bought the hype again, and I feel like I'm pretty disappointed.

After playing this a bit, I could have just saved the cash and kept playing NH2. It's the same darn game. Looks a touch better, but still not up to par of these consoles.

Still no advanced difficulty settings. Just Normal, and Advanced modes. No control over traction, stability, ABS etc. No replays/flashbacks.. There's a racing line now, but it's only available in practice, then disappears in other sessions. No option apparently to bring it back if you choose.

Controls with a controller are still jerky. I get it, Nascar's are alot heavier and can handle a bit stiff, there theres not much reason for it to be this unstable. Maybe they forgot that alot of people are going to play this with a controller.

The inability to scrolls race results... STILL... Are they even listening to feedback from players?

Presentation... overlays are a bit better graphically, but still.. rather plain and boring.

Visually it looks smoother, but it looks good up close, but if you scan your eyes further down the track you see its just blurred, and you can actually see the spots not to far in front of your car where that begins. Some of the textures for the track logos in the menu's, or logos in the car creator/paint booth themselves are blurry and of a poor resolution.

No caution flags available in a race unless you run at least 7% distance? come on... Really?

Same paint schemes essentially as last year for the users car. Maybe 2 new ones? Small, limited set of logos to use again. Different from last year, but still very limited selection.

Difficulty settings in career are still just easy... medium.. hard. Yet in a quick race (and I think season mode too?) you can use the number scale. I dont understand why that has to change for career mode. Just another example of limiting the player's experience IMO.

Its essentially a paint scheme/roster update, with a new arcade dirt track series, some slight upgrades to career, a slightly better handling game, that still has the same limited options, and play-ability as the previous two. There was little effort put into this one from last years IMO.

These guys need to step up their game bigtime. These minor little steps forward aren't getting it done considering how far they are behind other racing games this gen. I dont mean to be overly critical here, but, there's just not alot of things to be excited about in this one compared to NH2. They're still lacking the most common options in every racing game out there. Two modes to drive? No customization in the driving model/settings at all? I mean, come on. It's 2018, we're dealing with the PS4, Xb1, XB1X and PC's here.

Definitely disappointed in this one. It has a few upgrades in career, and visually, and slightly with the handling, and the addition of some pre-made car setups, but ultimately, that could have been done with a patch to NH2 in my opinion. Not for another $79.99Cdn price tag. Maybe I'm holding it up to too high of a standard with all my F12018 driving lately, but really... I don't see a major difference in this one compared to NH2. It's a valiant effort, with a few upgrades, but ultimately, it's not worth the full price of admission to me if you already have NH2 and can stand last years driver roster. Maybe I'll change my mind down as I get into the career mode. Career mode saved Nh2 for me, and likely will here too, but it's just... not enough for a game in it's 3rd year, in 2018. I'll have some fun with it, I'm sure since I enjoyed NH2 for what it was, but that being said, there's alot to be desired still.. It's not enough of an upgrade to warrant the price IMO.If you enjoyed Nh2, you'll enjoy this one too, but I'm sure it'll leave you hoping for alot more

Playing on PC and unlike a lot of other PC users, my wheel and pedals and shifter (TX, T3PA Pros, and TH8A) worked flawlessly. Having a good time with the dirt racing and ran a couple of truck races. I'm enjoying it. It's not a sim (far from it) but it's a good time at least for me. They've addressed some of the issues I had with the last two.

The fact that it’s not a true sim is perfect for me. I find that I’m leaning a little more arcade and a little less sim these days, as I slowly become an old man.

One month pass is 12.99, so I would lean towards yes.Really though, it just depends on how much you like alternate and race specific schemes - If you are a stickler for those, than I would say absolutely.
