Coach Geezy in the Big Easy Part III: Legacy | From Bourbon St. to the Bayou
Prologue The year is 2027. After leading Tulane for a long and mostly successful 17-year period, veteran head coach D. Geezy saw his time in New Orleans come to an abrupt end following a strong yet ultimately disappointing 10-4 campaign in 2026, a season that included a heartbreaking 38-24 defeat at the hands of Florida in the SEC Championship Game, a loss that reportedly may have directly cost him his job. <div style="float: right; border: 1px solid #ddd; margin: 5px; padding: 5px; padding-top: 5px; width: 340px; text-align: center;" ><img src="https://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a394/Deegeezy/2027/9b1698eb-c359-46aa-9531-8e1634bb8a23.png" /><br /><small>After building Tulane's abysmal football program into a SEC juggernaut, legendary head coach D. Geezy will now march to Baton Rouge in hopes of bringing LSU's program back to championship glory while also hoping to restore the Tigers as Louisiana's team.</small></div> During his time in New Orleans, aside from successfully getting Tulane back into the SEC in 2014 following a 48-year hiatus, Geezy guided the Green Wave to two national championships in 2016 and 2018, along with six SEC championships over the span of seven seasons from 2015 to 2021. However, following that amazing run that was without a doubt the Golden Age of Tulane football, Geezy's squad failed to win another title of any sort over the course of the next five seasons, ultimately leading to a contract impasse and his subsequent departure. Meanwhile, approximately 80 miles down I-10 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, LSU watched its in-state rival Tulane from afar in envy as Geezy guided the Wave to multiple titles while also knocking off the Tigers each of the past 10 times the two schools have met in their annual "Battle for the Rag" rivalry game, firmly establishing the Green Wave as Louisiana's premiere college football team in sudden, stunning fashion. Since winning the 2007 BCS National Championship exactly 20 seasons ago, the Tigers' football program has become stuck in a spell of mediocrity, finishing with one average season after another while failing to win the Southeastern Conference even one time over the past two decades. Furthermore, the team has also failed to achieve double-digit wins for six consecutive seasons and counting and has inexplicably finished unranked each of the past four years. Now, after successfully pilfering the now-legendary coach Geezy from their in-state rivals with a mega-contract offer he could not refuse, the Tigers hope to get their football program back to prominence. Feeling shunned by the program that he built from the ground up, Geezy will now look to help reestablish LSU's rightful place as the king of Louisiana college football, while also hoping to get back to his own championship-winning ways and create a long-lasting image of himself as one of the all-time greats of college football coaching. This is a story about redemption...this is a story about LEGACY. ---------------------------------- Disclaimer: The following story lines, game results, etc. are purely fictitious and are for entertainment purposes only. Dynasty Rules & Settings Mission Statement Many of you will be happy to know that I am not going to let this Part III mission statement be nearly as long-winded as the one I penned back in July of 2015. The situation here is simple - We are heading into year 18 of a dynasty I started years ago and, after 17 seasons with Tulane, I will be taking my talents to LSU after the Green Wave elected not to offer my user-coach, Coach Geezy, a contract extension following the 2026 season. For those of you that don't know the full background - I started this dynasty report project all the way back in July of 2010 on a now-defunct website called Digital Sports Scene. After playing 9 full seasons over the course of a calendar year (Part I), I took about a four year break from this story before coming back with Part II in July of 2015 here at Operation Sports. When I first began the Part II project, the intent was for it to last about 3 to 4 seasons, played over the course of a calendar year. Little did I know that after 8 seasons and about 3 1/2 years of real-time, I'd still be playing this dynasty to this day. I truly felt that with Tulane, I could have played this dynasty for at least another 3 or 4 seasons, maybe even more; however in a heartbreaker, that dream was cut short when Coach Geezy's contract expired at the end of year 17 and he was not offered an extension. As the saying goes "All good things must come to an end," but the hope is that this forced school change brings new energy to this project and we end up seeing this thing go even deeper into the future than anticipated. So here we are, set to start the latest and final chapter of this trilogy saga, with the main setting just a few miles down the road from New Orleans in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. For those of you that have been following since the beginning, the hope is that you will find this last chapter as rewarding as the first two, and events from the past will certainly play a role in the upcoming future. Our story will begin at the start of the 2027 off-season, with both Coach Geezy and the LSU football program looking to restore their past glory. There will be plenty of familiarity for readers, with this dynasty continuing in the SEC. There will be one particular familiar foe for Coach Geezy at the top of the conference that his team is trying to catch - Alabama, along with a whole new SEC West nemisis he will now need to try to figure out how to navigate past - Tulane. I plan for this to last at least 4 or 5 seasons, but as I learned on my previous project, there is no use in placing any firm timelines on myself. I will just take it one season at a time and see where this story brings us. So with all that said, welcome to Coach Geezy in the Big Easy Part III: Legacy | From Bourbon St. to the Bayou, and I once again hope you enjoy the ride! Settings Video Game: EA Sports' NCAA Football '11 Gaming Console: Xbox 360 Gameplay Difficulty Level: Heisman Recruiting Difficulty Level: Heisman Quarter Length: 9 minutes Gameplay Speed: Normal Gameplay Sliders: CPU RB Ability turned up to 80, CPU Pass Coverage turned up to 80, CPU Run Defense turned up to 80, CPU FG Accuracy turned up to 80, CPU Kickoff Power turned up to 55, and all remaining CPU sliders turned up to 60 | User FG Accuracy turned down to 20 | All remaining User and CPU sliders set to default Rosters: This dynasty began with using OperationSports.com's Community Rosters, released on July 15th, 2010, with minor corrections to Tulane's original 2010 roster. However, with this dynasty now heading into season 18, all players are now fictional, game-generated characters. Penalty Sliders: Offsides turned down to 30, False Start turned down to 45, Holding turned up to 55, Facemask turned down to 30, Roughing the Passer turned down to 25, and Roughing the Kicker turned down to 25. Everything else is set to default. Tuner Sets: Tuner set 1 downloaded just prior to the start of 2011 season. All LSU games will be played; No simming is allowed Gameplay Strategy/Rules Offensive Playbook: Texas A&M (2027), Ole Miss (2028-present) Defensive Playbook: 4-2-5 (2027-present) - An effort must be made to utilize my entire playbook offensively. - DE & DT Sub-Out set to 70, QB Sub-Out set to 0, OL Sub-Out set to 0, OL Sub-In set to 60, WR Sub-In set to 75, CB Sub-In set to 75, S Sub-In set to 75. Everything else is set to default (60 Sub Out and 80 Sub In). - Any non-quarterback that sustains a minor injury must sit out the amount of time the game determines they must take before becoming 100% healed. Only in the fourth quarter can I choose to play an injured, non-QB player. - Like the CPU, the "conservative" game plan can only be used in the final 3 minutes of the game. This rule also includes draining the play-clock down to :01 before snapping the ball, unless the game is well out of hand and in the fourth quarter (25+ point lead) or when nursing the ball before halftime. - Only kickers can be used at the PK position and only punters can be used at the P position. Either the kicker or punter may play at the KOS position. - I may not "free roam" with a defensive player pre-snap. I must line up where the CPU aligns me (or brings me to) and stay there until the ball is snapped unless the player is a blitzer. - If the CPU attempts an absurdly long field goal, I.E. from 55+ yards away, I must pick the play "FG Return" on defense, catch the ball, and bring it out to the 20-yard line and step out of bounds. I may only use a true field goal return at the end of a half or end of the game (field goal attempt with less than :20 to go in either half). - On defense, I must play with any defensive lineman for 1 quarter, any linebacker for 1 quarter, any defensive back for 1 quarter, and then any defensive player for 1 quarter. It is completely my discretion each game as to who I will use and when. Recruiting Rules This game has demonstrated a more than acceptable amount of a challenge in this area, so I will not place any rules or restrictions on myself. I will continue to rely solely on the game's Heisman recruiting difficulty level to prohibit me from building my team in an unrealistic fashion. With that said, I will make every effort to recruit in a realistic fashion for a school of LSU's current prestige level at all times. Players Leaving - No player will be stopped from leaving LSU early. - No players can be cut. Transfer Requests - Any and all transfer requests will be accepted whether it is a player leaving or a player wanting to transfer to LSU. Scheduling Rules - There is an existing real life football contract between LSU and Oklahoma. The Tigers will travel to Norman in 2027 and the Sooners will come to Baton Rouge in 2028. - There is an existing real life football contract between LSU and Arizona St. The Tigers will host the Sun Devils in Baton Rouge in 2029, and will travel to Tempe in 2030. - Other than the two pre-existing contracts above, there will be no restrictions, however the goal will be to keep things as realistic as possible, but also challenging. Banned "Money Plays" - Shotgun: Tight, HB Wheel - Shotgun: Empty H Wide, HB Go - Shotgun: Trey Open, Double Post Dynasty Rules & Game Settings Amendment Log - I allowed myself to release any player that was recruited in year 1 of the original dynasty due to the issue of low-rated recruits pre-tuner set 1. - Increased Quarter Length from 8 minutes to 9 minutes in week 6 of Year 3 (2012 season) in an effort to increase the total number of plays per game - Increased CPU Run Defense to 60 at the start of Year 7 (2016 season) - CPU RB Ability turned up to 75, CPU Pass Coverage turned up to 75, CPU run defense turned up to 75, CPU FG Accuracy turned up to 60 at the start of Year 9 (2018 season) - User FG Accuracy turned down to 25 at Game 2, Year 9 (2018 season) - CPU RB Ability turned up to 80, CPU Pass Coverage turned up to 80, CPU run defense turned up to 80, CPU FG Accuracy turned up to 75, and all remaining CPU sliders turned up to 60 except for FG Power, Kickoff Power, Punt Power, and Punt Accuracy, which remain at default, at the start of Year 10 (2019 season) - Only kickers can be used at the PK position and only punters can be used at the P position. Either the kicker or punter may play at the KOS position at the start of Year 10 (2019 season). - The play call "Shotgun: Tight, HB Wheel" was banned at the start of Year 10 (2019 season). - The play call "Shotgun: Empty H Wide, HB Go" was banned at the start of Year 10 (2019 season). - The play call "Shotgun: Trey Open, Double Post" was banned at the start of Year 10 (2019 season). - I may not "free roam" with a defensive player pre-snap. I must line up where the CPU aligns me (or brings me to) and stay there until the ball is snapped unless the player is a blitzer at the start of Year 13 (2022 season). - CPU FG Accuracy turned up from 75 to 80. It is completely my discretion each game as to who I will use and when (Game 2 of 2022 season). - CPU Kickoff Power turned up to 55 at the start of Year 18 (2027 season) |

Despite being 14–2 at Tiger Stadium, famed Alabama head coach Bear Bryant once remarked that "Baton Rouge happens to be the worst place in the world for a visiting team. It's like being inside a drum." In 2001, ESPN sideline reporter Adrian Karsten said, "Death Valley in Baton Rouge is the loudest stadium I've ever been in." In 2002, (Ohio) coach Terry Hoeppner said of Tiger Stadium, "That's as exciting an environment as you can have ... we had communication problems we haven't had at Michigan and Ohio State." In 2003, ESPN's Chris Fowler called LSU his favorite game day experience. In 2009 former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee stated on Sean Hannity's Fox News show that "Unfair is playing LSU on a Saturday night in Baton Rouge." Survey after survey has concluded that Tiger Stadium is the most difficult place for a visiting team to play, including surveys by the College Football Association in 1987, The Sporting News in 1989, Gannett News Service in 1995, and Sport Magazine in 1998. More recently, in 2007, ESPN named Tiger Stadium "the scariest place to play", saying that "Tiger Stadium is, by far, the loudest stadium in the country." In 2009, ESPN writer Chris Low listed Tiger Stadium's Saturday night atmosphere as unsurpassed in the country, ranking it No. 1 out of the conference's 12 stadiums. In 2016, Tiger Stadium was again ranked No. 1 out of the conference's stadiums by USA Today writers Laken Litman & Steven Ruiz. LSU prefers night games in Tiger Stadium with its opponents, but television coverage requires that many contests be played in the afternoons. The university is conflicted between maximizing its potential to win and needed advertising revenues from television coverage. As explained by Chet Hilburn in The Mystique of Tiger Stadium: 25 Greatest Games: The Ascension of LSU Football, "The Tigers are apt to win more games at night in Tiger Stadium but the university takes in much more revenue for a day game televised by CBS because of the Southeastern Conference contract with the network is so lucrative." In 2008, as Alabama narrowly defeated LSU, Wright Thompson of ESPN.com described Tiger Stadium as "the best place in the world to watch a sporting event." In 2013, the NCAA ranked Tiger Stadium as the loudest stadium in all of college football. - |

Thursday, January 14, 2027... The LSU Tigers have turned to former Tulane head coach and arch-nemisis D. Geezy to help lead them out of the abyss of mediocrity. A familiar name will leave the Big Easy to settle in Baton Rouge as LSU lands mega-free agent head coach D. Geezy with a lucrative 3-year, $43.5 million contract | Geezy, who led rival Tulane to 10 straight wins over the Tigers, looks to help put LSU back at the top of Louisiana's college football landscape | University hopes that 17-year veteran head coach can lead Tigers to first SEC, national championships since 2007 Baton Rouge, LA -- "If you can't beat 'em, take 'em," said LSU athletic director Joe Alleva at Thursday's press conference. Less than a week after it was announced that free agent head coach D. Geezy would not be returning to Tulane for an 18th season, the two-time national champion head coach has found a new home in somewhat familiar surroundings, agreeing to terms on a three-year contract with Green Wave in-state rival LSU. The deal will reportedly pay Geezy $14.5 million per season, making him the second highest paid head coach in college football behind only legendary Alabama head coach Nick Saban. <div style="float: right; border: 1px solid #ddd; margin: 5px; padding: 5px; padding-top: 5px; width: 320px; text-align: center;" ><img src="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a394/Deegeezy/2027/a5a63e6f-f8be-4835-9355-22fd450fef17.png" /><br /><small>It has been 20 years since LSU last won a national championship or even a conference title. The Tigers' will now turn to former rival head coach D. Geezy to help them return to championship glory and also help restore them as Louisiana's premiere college football program.</small></div> "Not going to lie, this feels very weird, after viewing LSU as a rival all these years and now jumping the fence to their side," said Geezy at his introductory press conference Thursday afternoon, as he stood surrounded by local and national media as well as fans allowed into the media room. According to multiple sources, Geezy had several different options to choose from, including offers from North Carolina St., Texas Tech, East Carolina, as well as a reported NFL offer, but in the end, decided that home is where the heart is. "Baton Rouge is literally about a 70 to 80 minute drive from the Superdome, and being in my home state is very important to both myself and my family," said Geezy, who sources indicate only wanted a 3-year deal after getting locked-in to a 10-year, $50 million contract in 2016 which quickly became an under-market deal just a few years into the agreement. The six-time SEC champion head coach inherits a Tigers team that has been under a spell of mediocrity for quite some time. Aside from failing to win either a conference title or national title in the past 20 seasons, the team has finished unranked six of the last eight seasons, including each of the last four. The Tigers went 8-5 in 2026, however four of their wins came against non-conference opponents Louisiana Tech, Troy, North Texas, and UL-Lafayette, as the team finished just 3-5 in SEC play. Furthermore, LSU has lost to SEC West powers Alabama and Tulane a whopping 10 consecutive years each. From Les Miles, to Ed Orgeron, to Dave Aranda, and back to Les Miles again, the Tigers have failed to recapture the magic the storied program once had two decades ago, however Geezy believes that the foundation could be in place for the program to have a quick turnaround. <div style="float: left; border: 1px solid #ddd; margin: 5px; padding: 5px; padding-top: 5px; width: 380px; text-align: center;" ><img src="https://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a394/Deegeezy/2027/62c7ca12-442b-44b2-82cb-b828c90223e3.png" /><br /><small>Known as "White Mike" to his teammates due to his similar attributes to former college and NFL star QB Michael Vick, lefty QB Rob Mason is a player Geezy is familiar with, as the head coach recruited him very hard at Tulane and studied him closely as an opponent each of the past two seasons.</small></div>"QB Rob Mason is certainly a player that sticks out to me as someone I am excited to work with," said Geezy of the to-be junior quarterback that Tulane once recruited. "We spent a lot of time on him as a staff during the evaluation process a few years back and he is also a player that I personally spent a ton of time on both recruiting him and studying him as an opponent. He's done well up to this point, but there is still a ton of room for growth there, both as a passer and as a runner. "We have to get his TD to INT ratio to the next level after last year's 29 touchdown, 13 interception effort. We saw a lot of growth there last year with (Tulane quarterback) Jimmy McBride and we'd like to see a similar leap in the fall for Rob with him heading into year 3 as a starter. "We will also get very creative in how we get him into space in order to take advantage of his athleticism." But still though, despite inheriting a quarterback with 4.48 speed, Geezy knows that the dominating in the trenches is what matters most. "One of the areas I thought we did a good job at during our title runs at Tulane was addressing both lines and keeping those two areas stacked with talent," said Geezy, who will celebrate his 47th birthday on January 21st, one week from today. "I thought we failed to deliver there in the latter years and that made things difficult for us to compete with the Alabamas of the world, and more importantly, it made it difficult for us to win conference and national titles. "Speaking with Joe (Allevia) I think that became a point of emphasis here recently and the previous regime has done a good job with getting a handful of very good young 4-star offensive linemen set to join the roster as freshmen, and the defensive line is also looking very solid on film with some good veterans returning. You're going to see this as a major point of emphasis moving forward." <div style="float: right; border: 1px solid #ddd; margin: 5px; padding: 5px; padding-top: 5px; width: 380px; text-align: center;" ><img src="https://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a394/Deegeezy/Faces/112ffa28-fe5f-406e-8a06-d5b126ac00de.png" /><br /><small>In the two schools' annual "Battle for the Rag" rivalry game, Tulane has knocked off LSU 10 consecutive times dating back to 2017 season; Coach Geezy will now hope to help turn the tide on the Green Wave dominance that he was responsible for creating.</small></div> During Geezy's time at Tulane, the school's football program experienced a level of unprecedented success. After winning two Conference USA titles under Geezy, the team's move back to the SEC in 2014 following a 48-year hiatus sparked the Green Wave's upward ascension into the ranks of college football's elite. The team won its first SEC title in 2015 and would go on to win six total Southeastern conference titles over the course of seven seasons from 2015-2021, a conference most observers consider to be college football's best. The pinnacle of the Green Wave's success came during the 2016-2018 seasons, when the squad made three consecutive BCS National Championship Game appearances, winning the title matchups in 2016 and 2018. However, following a current run of five consecutive non-conference title winning seasons, the university decided to part ways with its long-time head coach after not being able to come to an agreement on dollar value. "I'd be lying to say that getting to play Tulane every year did not weigh on my decision," said Geezy, who admitted that he's anxious to face the Green Wave at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome this upcoming season, who as previously mentioned, have defeated the Tigers in ten straight meetings while under Geezy's leadership. "Payback is certaintly on the mind, but aside from that, I am just really excited to get to work and to help get this program back to the level it was once at. No disrespect to Tulane, but you can literally feel it in your veins and in the air when you walk onto this campus or walk into Tiger Stadium that this is something bigger, more meaningful than anything we ever had or could ever achieve at Tulane, even in those title years; you just know it and feel it that you're going to be under a much bigger microscope week-in and week-out at a program like this. Despite the run of lack of success here at LSU and the resurgence we had in New Orleans, you know through-and-through that this state craves seeing the Tigers being a contender again, and I intend to deliver just that, in addition to ending the losing streak against Tulane. "Oh and when we do beat Tulane, you best believe that our band will be playing 'Neck'...go Tigers!!!," Geezy exclaimed just before walking off the podium to a sudden burst of loud cheers from LSU fans at the news conference. . |

The natural choice for me! Glad to see you still going, and what a storyline this will be.

Re: Coach Geezy in the Big Easy Part III: Legacy | From Bourbon St. to the Bayou
I'm ecstatic to see your dynasty continue, reading your reports as always makes me want to keep my own work going and move on from a offensive coordinator position to a head coaching job. I love the decision to go to LSU, not being that far from New Orleans and remaining in the SEC carries so many storylines with it. Like you mentioned, having to see Alabama and Tulane every year is going to make for some big games. Looking forward to see how Part III plays out.

The rivalry can continue with Bama and now the Geezy Bowl every season with Tulane! Great choice!
I hope to see lots of night games in Death Valley. |
Re: Coach Geezy in the Big Easy Part III: Legacy | From Bourbon St. to the Bayou
Holy lord those jerseys :y12::y12::y12: Hopefully we see you rock the purple unis more than LSU does in real life, as they look unbelievable! No disrespect to Tulane, but the LSU jerseys just are iconic and look unreal in the few snapshots that you're posted so far. Can't wait to see what you can cook up with them here in the next few seasons, it really seems like it could be something special. GEAUX TIGERS!

Re: Coach Geezy in the Big Easy Part III: Legacy | From Bourbon St. to the Bayou
Yes, yes, yes!! I am so frickin' excited for this. Just so so pumped. I love the choice of LSU. It feels so natural and realistic and I think will provide you a nice challenge of attempting to build a dynasty in Baton Rouge. Like you discussed I loved the Superdome and your time at Tulane (which I have been along for since the very first post - weird to think I was a 20 year old undergrad in Virginia when this started), but this is Death Valley in Baton Rouge. It is going to be intensity and homefield advantage and football pageantry unlike anything you have ever experienced.
I am so interested and excited to see where the storylines go. I think "White Mike" gives you a nice immediate centerpiece for the offense and we both know the importance of building along the line (something I am suffering from myself). Coaching staff is the next big question. With Roberts poised to take the head role at Tulane, I figure he will hold on to a lot of your staff. I wonder what Charles Kelly is up to these days, still enjoying his time at Florida St or maybe he is ready to reunite with his old friend..... So excited. |
Re: Coach Geezy in the Big Easy Part III: Legacy | From Bourbon St. to the Bayou
very excited for phase three of this, can't wait for that first Tulane game. Who's house this season?
I've been following your 'chises forever and it's been really cool seeing them evolve. I still remember your Northwestern one you played with your son! Best of luck with the Tigers! |

Re: Coach Geezy in the Big Easy Part III: Legacy | From Bourbon St. to the Bayou
Imagine my excitement after my work week... I crack a beer and relax, Thursdays are usually my day to check in on dynasties as I'm just too exhausted to do much else to start my weekend.
Pop my coors light (the true gourmet beer to simpletons like myself), whip open the computer and tap away to the OS site. Oh... what's this... PART III?! I expected a longer hiatus while you made your choice! Pop the champagne, Gentries! Christmas has indeed come early my friends! I love the choice! having been to Death Valley, I can feel an even stronger connection than before. I can't wait to see how this goes. Excellent, smooth transition into part 3 Geezy, it's always a delight to see how you develop the stories! |
Re: Coach Geezy in the Big Easy Part III: Legacy | From Bourbon St. to the Bayou
I know you know white jerseys at home for openers and conference games. I'm so hyped to see this dude. Geaux Tigahs!

While I didn't care where you ended up, this was always my hope. I'm a big Coach O guy so I'd LOVE to see you bring these Tiger's back to prominence!
Best of luck in the Bayeux and #GeauxTigers |

I'm really looking forward to facing off with Tulane once a year, especially in the early going when a lot of the guys I am playing against will be players I recruited; I suddenly regret recruiting so well during my last season there; I have a feeling that those two blue chip safeties I signed are going to come back to bite me at some point in the not-so-distant future! "The Geezy Bowl?"...I like that. Quote:
You're right, the purple jerseys on the game look incredible. I sure wish there was a way to hack in the purple helmets they wore in a game this year into the game though (see avatar). We do have a nice variety to work from however, including some pretty sweet alternate uniforms from back in 2007, including some white pants, white helmets, and a unique purple jersey. Quote:

I can remember playing a brief, one season dynasty with LSU back in my youth on like NCAA 04 or something, and everything you say is accurate. You can just feel the pagentry and "specialness" when playing with a historic program like this and in a huge venue like Tiger Stadium. Plus it just feels natural that this is Coach Geezy's next step. It feels as though this is the proper graduation for his career. Like I said in the article about the hire, playing with LSU just feels like a much bigger deal, and hopefully that feeling translates well into the reporting. Another minor plus with using LSU is that it allowed the primary thread title "Coach Geezy in the Big Easy," to live on. "White Mike" (lol) played a big role in my decision to roll with LSU. Aside from the now-incredible, unintentional foreshadow that was provided back when I was reporting on the courtship of him at Tulane, I am just pumped about using a QB with his skillset. I really plan to really add the "Mike" to White Mike these next couple of years. He has a chance to quickly emerge as the face of this dynasty early-on. As for the coaching staff...I have some ideas up my sleeve for the type of defense I want to run and who I want to run it. As you know by now, it is more about the playbook than the person. I kind of hinted to it in the past season or so with Tulane, but I think I may be ready to try something new. I plan to really take my time this off-season. I want to make sure I am not just hopping into this thing and playing games with a bunch of guys I don't know. I am going to take my time and really acclimate myself (and readers) to my new team. By the time I kickoff the season, I want this to truly feel like "my team" just as it did with Tulane; I think that's very important at this stage, going into year 18 of a dynasty. Quote:
I appreciate you following my work through all of the years my friend. My son and I still talk about that Northwestern dynasty to this day. He was 6 years old when we did that and now he's 17 and getting ready to take off for college in a few months. Boy does the time fly! Quote:

I wasn't sure how long of a break I wanted to take initially. I wanted some time away, but not too much, because I didn't want to risk others and myself losing interest. In the end, once I made my decision on what team I wanted to use, I had to make another decision on how and when I wanted to roll things out. I had a couple of different options - do I a.) wait to post the thread while I familiarize myself with my team, that way the wait for games won't be long for readers? or do I b.) post the thread as soon as I have everything ready, and incorporate a full off-season helping of information to help both myself and the readers familiarize themselves with my new team? Due to the unique dynamic of switching a team in the middle of a dynasty, I chose the latter. Thankfully, for the first time ever, my real life job gave us the day off after Thanksgiving, so I had the house to myself for most of the day and was able to churn away at getting the thread together, I then polished it up on Sunday morning and slept on it one more night before officially pushing the green button on Monday before work. Anyway, by the time I am done with this off-season, I want this team to be more than just a mix of random names that no one has heard of making plays. One of the things that made the Tulane dynasty special for me personally and I would imagine virtually any other person's dynasty team is that several years in, the team is full of players you 100% know because you recruited them. The best way to try to mimic that here is to spend time getting to know everyone, and I plan to try to achieve that here this off-season through my reporting. I am one of the rare people that enjoy football off-seasons as much if not more than the season itself, so I have no problems with taking my time through it. I think it'll be well-worth it in the end. Quote:
I will probably mix it up; after all, it is 2027 and we're trying to buck trends! As I alluded to above in my response to Moose, I plan to address the jersey deployment stuff at some point during the off-season. Quote:

I said it in the article about the hire that this just feels bigger now, joining a historical program like this; and I can already tell through everyone's comments that this could potentially be a bigger and better thread with more interest and eyes on it just by virtue of the team being used. Thank you all for the great feedback and comments. I am still not over Geezy losing the Tulane job, but here's to this LSU journey being even better! Go Tigers! |

"I want to remain in-state and there is no doubt that I am hyped up to run the rock for Coach D. Geezy. He actually called me the day the announcement was made that he was going to B.R. and told me he has big plans for me next season. "I am a Tiger for life." Rodgers, the younger brother of current Tigers TE Lucas Rodgers, rushed for 1,748 yards and 19 touchdowns this past season with the Marksville Tigers as a high school senior. With LSU's running back core depleted due to graduation and with junior RB Anthony Johnson (66 ovr) currently the lone back on the team's roster, Rodgers has a tremendous chance to contribute right away as a true freshman next season. He hopes to contribute as much as his older brother Lucas did this past year, as the to-be-junior tight end hauled in 80 receptions for 1,015 yards and 7 touchdowns in 2026, all team-highs. ___________________________ McNeal ---- ---- report courtesy Eve Jewell, ESPN LSU | 4-star OLB McNeal keeping options open Thu, 21 Jan 2027 14:40:37 -0700 Eve Jewell of ESPN reports that 4-star OLB Will McNeal (#8 OLB prospect, Louisiana, 4.46 40-time), who soft committed to LSU two months ago, has indicated that he is currently re-evaluating his options following the dismissal of LSU head coach Les Miles, whose second stint with the team ended this past season after being replaced by former Tulane head coach D. Geezy. McNeal, who finished his high school senior season with the Opelousas Tigers with 84 tackles, 14 1/2 sacks, and 3 interceptions, indicates that promises were made to him by the previous regime that he isn't sure would be honored now and that the uncertainty on how his skill-set would be utilized by the Tigers following the coaching switch has weighed heavily on his decision. "I just need some time," said McNeal. "LSU is not out of the picture, but I just want to re-open my recruitment this off-season and see where the chips fall. I'm definitely down for playing for Geezy, but I want to check out some other options first." McNeal's top three is believed to consist of LSU, Michigan St., and Arkansas. ___________________________ McBride (LEFT) will remain at Tulane while Lawson (RIGHT) will take his talents to the NFL. report courtesy Taylor Bisciotti, SEC Network Tulane | QB McBride in, WR Lawson out at Tulane Sun, 24 Jan 2027 06:19:21 -0700 Taylor Bisciotti of ESPN's SEC Network reports that Tulane QB Jimmy McBride (89 ovr) will remain with the Green Wave for his redshirt senior season while WR Adam Lawson (88 ovr) has decided to forgo his senior season and enter the NFL Draft. McBride, 5-11 201 pounds and a former 4-star recruit out of North Carolina, had an incredible redshirt junior campaign, throwing for 4,108 yards along with 42 touchdowns and 10 interceptions, and his return is a big boost for a Tulane squad hoping to thrive despite losing its head coach of the past 17 seasons, D. Geezy, and moving on with new head coach Joe Roberts, who was previously the team's offensive coordinator the past two years. Meanwhile, the 6-6 212 pound Lawson, who caught 69 passes for 1,530 yards and 17 touchdowns last year as a junior, did not mince words when sharing via Twitter his feelings on Geezy's unceremonious departure from the Green Wave two weeks ago, and on Sunday evening, he expanded on his thoughts once again via social media. "I prayed on this for a while and it was a tough decision even before it happened, but the recent change at Tulane is not something I want to be a part of," said the former 4-star recruit out of Eunice, Louisiana in an Instagram statement. "I appreciate everything the university has done for me, but at this time, I am ready to pursue my NFL dream. #coachgeezy #loyalty" ___________________________ |

I like the mobility you have at QB. Good luck with your recruiting hall!

Re: Coach Geezy in the Big Easy Part III: Legacy | From Bourbon St. to the Bayou
Based on the depth chart you desperately need Scotty Rodgers. His brother Lucas sounds like a legit weapon at the TE position. To land that stud OLB would be a huge get for he defense as well. No surprise McBride returned as I believe NFL scouts probably aren’t sold on a 5’11” signal caller. Adam Lawson leaving Tulane for the pro draft was a no-brainer in everyone’s eyes.

Re: Coach Geezy in the Big Easy Part III: Legacy | From Bourbon St. to the Bayou
I know we discussed the reports and I knew the school was down, but I will be honest that I did not expect LSU to be that weak on paper. I think Mason is a stud and you got a nice tight end in Lucas. I figure with progression most of the offensive line should make it into the high 70's low 80's, despite only returning one starter.
The wheels start to come off the bus a little though when I look at your defense. The line should be fine and the safeties serviceable but those linebackers and corners scare me. Playing in the SEC where everyone is fast and big I worry about your ability to matchup with stud wideouts or tight ends. If people get past your line.... But this is Coach Geezy we are talking about, I know you (like me) will love that you have quite the building project ahead of you. I am so excited for this next chapter. Looking at the prospects, my eyes of course light up at Scottie Rodgers. I am a power running guy more days than not and I think Scottie has a legit chance to be the guy for the next four years. And don't think I didn't notice the new reporter Carley. Outside of Rodgers, I think J.J. could be a day one starter. I expect the talented Broussard will redshirt with your depth at tight end and you have a nice foundation for the future of the offensive line as well. Loving this as always my friend! |

Glad you enjoy the female talent! They're certainly some great writers aren't they? Quote:
The backups aren't too shabby either. Quote:
Lucas Rodgers, coming off the year he had, will be a pivotal part of our offense. It's not like we're exactly loaded at wide receiver, so him building on his 2026 campaign is critical for us. Defensively, the same can be said for the linebacker room as far as depth, or lack there of. It is absolutely crucial that we land McNeal. With his speed and looking at what else we have at the position currently, he could/should be a day 1 starter if he finally decides to hard commit to the Tigers. I was really hoping to play against both McBride and Lawson this season, but you're right - it is no surprise that Lawson decided to cash-in. He had an amazing career. It'll be interesting to see who steps up to replace him as McBride's #1 target between junior and former 4-star recruit Grant Brady and sophomore blue chip Steve Mosley. I will be following that team very closely all season long. The whole "following the team I assembled from afar" thing is going to be an interesting dynamic overall that I am curious to see how it plays out. Quote:
Hopefully J.J. is starter material. We could really use another guy at LB, even if he comes in only rated in the 75 to 78 range. It could get ugly at that position if he turns out to be a bust. Julius "Juice" Broussard is another guy that I am kind of "wait and see" on, but you may be right in that the redshirt would be the best move. I haven't ruled out possibly moving one of the tight ends to fullback. Glad you like Carley. She's new in town and seems to have a sudden interest in LSU now that Geezy is there. It's also crazy that Eve Jewell got her a big national gig at ESPN just as Geezy left Tulane and she's somehow still getting the scoop on his team. Weird. |

Re: Coach Geezy in the Big Easy Part III: Legacy | From Bourbon St. to the Bayou
it's always fun to explore new schemes in NCAA
how would you describe your offensive scheme at Tulane? will that scheme translate to LSU with the current talent? |
Re: Coach Geezy in the Big Easy Part III: Legacy | From Bourbon St. to the Bayou
Recruiting wise, Rodgers is a huge get. He should factor into the lineup on day one, as Johnson does not look ready for Saturdays unfortunately. Mason should be the key to respectability in year one, but the talent level on the offensive side of the ball is pretty dire right now. That said, it's not much better defensively, with the linebacker corps looking particularly barren, yikes. Geezy will definitely have the opportunity to build the team in his image once he starts bringing some recruits in, but it could be a tough couple of years to fight through before some real championship talk can finally start setting in to Baton Rouge.
I like the defensive coordinator talk with the scheme possibilities. I definitely have to do a better job in my own dynasty of factoring in the coordinators' preferred schemes to add a little more realism. What do things look like scheme wise offensively? Also, it'll be interesting to see how McBride does in his NFL audition season without Geezy at the helm! |
Re: Coach Geezy in the Big Easy Part III: Legacy | From Bourbon St. to the Bayou
I like the thought to bring in DeJean for a couple of reasons. The 4-2-5 defense would be something new and unique for you while also allowing you to mask your weakness at the linebacker position to some extent. Secondly, I think it will be good for Geezy to surround himself with familiar faces and bring in some of his former players.
I will be curious also to see how the Tulane coaching staff plays out and if that changes their schemes any. |
