Zone Hitting/Guess Pitch (Question from an Xbox Guy)

    Hi friends,

Longtime Xbox guy here. Last time I played The Show was in the old PS3 days. Back then, I had my game set up to where I'd guess pitch type & location in one of 4 quadrants in the strike zone. The game would give me an indication if I either guessed the correct pitch, the correction location, or it would give me a flashing indicator if I guessed both correctly.

I didn't have any type of cursor to hit otherwise, and the direction I pressed on my controller while swinging seemed to dictate more where I was trying to hit the ball, rather than the location of the pitch. (Example: Up & right was a fly ball to RF, etc)

My question is this...I can't remember exactly which settings got me to this setup since it's been like 8 years since I've played this game, and I can't seem to figure it out now. Can anyone help this old guy figure this out?

You're looking for directional hitting I believe, and then you turn your PCI off. I think that's close-ish to what you'd want.
I won't ask for Christmas or birthday gifts if you subscribe to the Operation Sports Newsletter (Not Just Another Roster Update). I write it, and it hits your inbox every Friday morning (for freeeeeee). We also have an official OS Discord you can now join.

I'll give that a shot. From one former Operation Sports Waiver Wire host to another, I give my thanks!

I would totally forget about "guess pitch". Turn it off and keep solely on zone hitting. It becomes convoluted trying to mix the two, and if you guess wrong, you are penalized anyway. Also, the few times you may guess correctly, the reward for doing so doesn't benefit enough for the constant struggle you're putting yourself in when you don't.

Yeah, I get all that. I only used it when the situation dictated a certain pitch I was looking for. (Runner on 3rd, less than 2 outs, I want to hit a fly ball - I'd sit on a high fast ball)

Basically if you just want ratings to more dictate the game, directional is where you'll end up. You can still influence the ball, but that can occur with or without guess pitch on with that setup.

That's the answer I was looking for. Thank you, my friend.

What you're referring to has been gone for a while. Can't remember if that was MVP Baseball or the show, but I do remember what you're talking about.

I would say directional hitting is the closest to that, but not exactly the same. I would recommend trying zone hitting over directional especially if you plan on playing online or DD. If you're a franchise only guy then directional would be fine. Zone just feels like you have more of an influence in your at bat and gives you more control. With directional I always felt like there was a bit of randomness involved that I didn't care for.

Also, you may end up here, and Armor is the czar of Directional hitting here on the forums. So his settings may help as well for what to have on and off (albeit the sliders may not since it's for last year's game but still the other settings are there and are still useful).
