Regardless, my point was the owner cares so little about the history of the team that he changed the name of their stadium from an homage to their late legendary owner and sold it to the highest bidder. An argument aside from history is going to be needed in this case because that one holds no water.
Nah, I was talking about the Indians field, I sincerely doubt Indians fans accept the name Progressive field, I still call it "the Jake"

I was just correlating it to the fact that if you rename the Indians, their still the Indians. If someone renamed the Yankees, I'm forever calling them the Yankees. Just because you erase a name, doesn't mean you erase it's history.

My memories of the those great Indians's teams of the 90's are permanently etched into my brain.

I'm not arguing that owners are cheapskates, and some would sell their soul for the $$$, that's not relevant.

It doesn't matter what you call it, it matters what it's called. I can call Giants Stadium Giants Stadium until I'm blue in the face but MetLife is still going to get the publicity and their logo is going to be seen everywhere the stadium name is.

Contrary to your point, Yankees was a nickname. We were the Highlanders, moved out of an area with high altitude, and the press started calling them the New York Yankees, guess what stuck? So the case you argue would never happen, literally happened and gave us what we know now.

The highlanders obviously didn't have the rich history of the Yankees, so it really didn't matter.

But if you changed the name of the Indians or Redskins, that's quite a dagger in the heart of some historic franchises.

Can you imagine the NBA without the Celtics? That's how I feel about the above teams.

So we still call the Nationals the Expos here then, right? The Astros are still the Colt .45s? The Pelicans are the Hornets and the Hornets are the Bobcats, or maybe still the Hornets? The Wizards are still the Bullets? The Brewers are the Seattle Pilots? After all, that's history.

None of those teams have even close to the history of the other ones I mentioned. The Expos have probably the most out of that group.

They should call the Wizards the Bullets, that had to have been one of the worst name changes ever, because of political correctness.

What is the criteria for being a historical franchise and how did Cleveland get on the list? By just being old?

I just can't picture sports without the Indians, it would be strange, and unnecessary.

                  Same with the Redskins.

Are those not iconic franchises in sports? Maybe not on the level of the Cubs or Packers. But I really can't imagine those names changing, and destroying their history, its completely unnecessary.

No I don't think so. The Indians aren't anywhere near iconic to me, their claim to fame may as well be Major League. The only teams I would say are iconic are the Yankees, Red Sox, Dodgers, Cardinals, and the Cubs off the top of my head. Honestly I'm not sure the Indians pop up before 15. They're just old.

Joe Buck says 3 more World Series he's signed on for and then he might be calling it quits. It would be interesting to see who gets the top Fox spot when he retires, hopefully Vasgersian. After years of The Show hearing him call baseball just feels right.

Also, Loria says he'd sell the Marlins for 1.7 billion. Everything about that sentence angers me, the idea that he owns the team, the idea that he believes its worth that much, and the idea that he could actually get that much lol. Can't see that happening though, why would anyone pay almost 2 bil for a team in that market? Somebody text A-Rod to get some of his people together and get this clown out of baseball.

Maybe someone can buy it for 1.7 billion and then sue him for half and win it back.

Don't ask me how. Just make it happen!

Is Buck hinting at retirement across the board or just for baseball? I think Matty V has the inside track for sure. I wouldn't rule out Dan Shulman if he wants to greatly reduce his schedule and get out from under his ESPN contract.

As for Loria? The guy is a POS. I hope no one is dumb enough to buy the Marlins unless it's some Montreal group that steals that franchise away from Miami.

“Yeah, I think I — I love it — but I’ve been doing it for a long time and I feel like somebody else should do it. I’ve done enough. I’m signed for three more World Series, and that’ll be 22 — which is stupid to even think about. If somebody said right now, before I walk outta here, you’re done, I’ve had the greatest career miles beyond anything I could have ever dreamed.

But I would like to get some of my time back and be at home, be in St. Louis, be with my wife and watch my kids, even though they’re 20 and 17, and doing their own thing. I’ve been gone a lot this year, and I’m not crying about it. I love it. But I need to take stuff out.”

He was talking about and responding to a question specifically about baseball in this, I'd assume he would still do football. It's funny, I'd much rather get a new football announcer and keep him in baseball. 22 is an amazing amount of World Series to call for sure. Saw the Yankees dynasty, the Team of the 90's get theirs, Marlins outta nowhere twice, Boston and both Chicago teams break their droughts, just awesome to think about as a fan.

Yeah, i'm not the biggest fan of Buck but those are some AWESOME moments to have been a part of. It's definitely a lot of material for a book IMO. He doesn't do as much baseball as he used to do (there was a time when he did a lot of regular season games) but the double dipping with his football commitments can be a drain on someone for sure.

I personally think he's better at football mainly because because he's been blessed with partners who don't go for the cheap jokes and tangents though he's done better with Smoltz so that's something positive.
