Yes, nothing screams "personality" or "fun" like the name Dirt Bag on the back of someone's jersey.

Give me a break. Screwing with jerseys is a stupid gimmick. It doesn't bring permanent fans to the sport.

"There's no crying in baseball!" Apparently there is, however, a TON of it from the fans.

Anything inappropriate or offensive won't be on the back. This isn't the XFL. MLB is going to let the guys have fun while protecting the brand.

It's not even like it'll be that noticeable. You guys are acting as if the announcers are going to call guys by their nicknames (they already do) and the boxscores will have them.

It's a couple letters on the back of a Jersey.

The guys want to let loose for a weekend.

All I said is the counter-point to your point.

If names on the back of the jersey is a breaking point for you and baseball, then you're not a baseball fan.

Disliking it is one thing. Stopping watching baseball is completely different.

My thoughts on the issue are that while it isn't a big deal, I bet an overwhelming majority of baseball fans DO NOT want/enjoy this kind of "stunt". So it's not done for us...it's clearly done to try and attract new fans/young fans/whatever.

The problem is, I don't see 3 days of this type of publicity accomplishing that...so why put the rest of us through it? At the end of the day it doesn't really matter, but I'd rather see them push/market the talented players they have by their actual names instead of stuff like this.

I dont think it's for the fans at all. It's for the players. I feel that's what getting lost here.

The players want a weekend they can express themselves. Consider it their casual Friday.

...lol, that explains it then. I hate the idea of casual Friday or adults dressing up, period. Oh well...

Finally a weekend where players can let loose and have fun. Except they better not bat flip, fist pump, take too long staring at a HR, celebrate too much, show too much personality, have anything remotely non-G rated on their jersey, talk trash, show up the umpire, etc etc. Other than that, go nuts.

It's all just to get more social media exposure, let's be honest.

I honestly can't think of many players that have a nickname. Chuck Nazty, CarGo Joey Bats, Cutch, JHay, KB, Addy, Zo, JBJ...

And it's only for 3 freaking days. Players aren't being forced to participate.

This old man crowd is what's preventing new fans. They see the internet blow up with negativity any time some minor change takes place.

                            MLB wants young fans?

Have any teams had a Fidget Spinner day?

That's the kinda things MLB nees to capitalize on. Those 15 minutes of fame fads that take fire over social media.

i have a fidget spinner, but they should have a spinner day where they give fans a team spinner. that would be cool.
