That's the kinda things MLB nees to capitalize on. Those 15 minutes of fame fads that take fire over social media.
The toy craze that has swept the nation is probably on the way out.

Well those are really cool and very unique nicknames.

I'm cool with everything but the nicknames. I don't mind guys going crazy if they hit a home run or making a big play and getting pumped up. It's fine in every other sport...

If you want something else on your jersey go the Ochocinco or World Peace route.

I just can't fathom wanting to have anything other than my last name on my jersey other than not having a name at all.

Longo, Melky, Miggy, Krod, Big City, Thor, Tulo, Cutch, Cole Train, Mad Bum. Those are some of the top of my head.

Not hockey. They have a boring culture. Guys get criticized for celebrating too much after goals. Like baseball, they expect you to just score, shut up, go back to your bench.

I would bet $100M that Bumgarner is not going to put MadBum on the back of his jersey.

They play 162 games a year, with a ton of downtime and just general BSing every single day. Personalities and levity have to come out eventually. Nicknames on the backs of jerseys are a good way to remind everyone that most of these guys are in there 20s, getting paid a ton of money to play a kids game as a career. It's not the military.

If names on the back of the jersey is a breaking point for you and baseball, then you're not a baseball fan.

Disliking it is one thing. Stopping watching baseball is completely different.
I don't think anyone appointed you to judge their fandom with a thumbs up/down like a Roman emperor in the Coliseum was my point.

If this silly thing about casual jersey weekend or whatever is a breaking point for some people, then who's to judge them about it? I don't think it's tautologically correct that we can say they were never fans since they aren't fans anymore. As for the why so serious? part of it, well, that's a tired old hag of a criticism that can be used by anyone against anyone else who has ever held strong opinions about anything.

What's more is a lot of little tiny changes over a longer period of time can drive legit fans off, kinda like me and the NFL. Growing up, I was a massive NFL fan. I collected football cards, watched NFL games religiously every Sunday/Monday, did weekly football picks before fantasy football was even an industry, talked endless smack to friends who had other rooting interests, followed all the players/stats/records/storylines/standings/history, attended the few games I could afford, bought and wore out Madden every year, but now I hardly pay attention to it anymore. I was a pro football fan, then woke up one morning and really couldn't claim that I was any longer. Not a die-hard anyway. Probably a culmination of small and large things.

Yeah, because it's not like these guys do anything at all to blow off steam on flights/buses, in the dugout, on social media, jiving it up in the clubhouse or anything. Thank God these players finally eeked out a concession whereby for 3 glorious days out of 365 they actually get to be human instead of automaton baseball player.....

After all how else would they be able to express their super unique personalities with such super cool, unique nicknames like "Cutch" and "Tulo" and "Dansbae."

I think they'd probably be better served promoting how ****ing good the talent right now is rather than how "fun" the talent is with some forced, gimmicky, garbage weekend that comes across as just trying too hard to be "how do you do fellow kids." It's bad enough with these ugly *** Mothers Day/Fathers Day jerseys where every team looks exactly the same. I guarantee this will be mocked, because that's all people do all day every day now anyway---just mock everything using the same jokes and comments and memes for every situation.

You show how amazing the sport is right now, and the rest of the fun will follow. Again, as my broken record *** says, baseball will never be cool again so long as the sports media powers that be decide it's not.

Who the **** watches a sport because of individual personalities anyway? I watch sports when players are amazing and teams are amazing and the sport is amazing. If the product sucks, I don't care if my favorite player in the sport (Freddie Freeman) dishes out hugs, or someone does a really cool dance and sign to the dugout when reaching second base, or any of the other stuff.

Guess it's just me. I know how to appreciate the talent I'm watching. And personalities shine through naturally.
