Is DeMarcus Cousins the next Shaq?

After watching all of the kings summer league games, taking a look at demarcus stats, and demarcus size do you think he could be the next shaq?

He plays very simular style( except hes got a little more range ). Hes close to the same size.

Cousins doesn't have a fraction of the athleticism/explosiveness Shaq did.

By that fact alone the answer is no.

No but he will be one of the better centers of the future along with Howard, Noah, and Lopez.

Shaq is a bad comparison....like sum1 said shaq had more explosion and athleticism, shaq is a freak of nature. But i will say this kid is the most polished post player I have seen come out of college in a while. He has a multitude of post moves. To me he reminds me of a bigger Al Jefferson but with better passing, range and dribbling. Hes gonna struggle at times bc he doesn't have the explosive lift but he has lots of talent but very skilled with footwork for a big at 19 is unheard of, he has really impressed me whether its summer league or not you can tell the guy can be special if he wants to.

That is depressing. I remember that Shaq. I wonder if the Shaq now was that size if he could still do some of that. I believe Cousins will be able carve out a niche this year, but probably not be as effective as Shaq was his first year.

I save the "next x" stuff until the guy played 2-3 seasons in the NBA. I had enough of those next - MJ/Shaq/Barkley/Bird. some of them hardly survived 3 seasons playing decent basketball

Very, very bad comparison. I'm not sure what game your watching, but there is nothing "Shaq" about Cousins. Shaq had crazy athleticism, you might see Cousins with a few nice jams but he primarily plays below the rim. I watched this guy get posterized three times by Samardo Samuels and Chris Richard, players that are barely making the team at this point. The answer is no.

Cousins is far more of a finesse player than Shaq. He's not nearly as athletic.


I do think he will eventually be one of the best bigs in the NBA, though.

1a) Summer League. Lonny Baxter used to rape summer league.
1b) @OKC 17 points, 5 reb., 2 ast., 2 st.
@LAC 20 points, 6 reb.
@CLE 22 points, 4 reb., 3 ast.
@TOR 24 points, 5 reb., 3 ast., 2 blocks

2) Athleticism. Cousins lacks the footwork, hands, explosiveness, IQ that Shaq does.

3) He has a questionable work ethic and attitude toward the game. Shaq actually did have the work ethic the majority of his prime.


I see Cousins with top 3 Center in the NBA potential, though. Amazing he fell so far. Wesley Johnson and Evan Turner will be half the player Cousins will be, imo.

I don't think cousins will be the next shaq but I think he will be a very good center, possibly great if "he" wants to be.

No, he's not very athletic at all. He can barely jump! I think he could be a good player, but I really hate his attitude about the game. He's a 19 year-old going on 11 based on the way he acts according to my friend.
