Kyle Draper doesn't believe Rondo is worth the headache

A reporter from Comcast Sportsnet New England recently got interviewed and said Rajon Rondo might not be worth the headache for Dallas

I'm glad that a Celtics beat writer has such great insights into the Mavericks. Wish people would give Rondo and the Mavs some more time to work things out and not jump to silly overreactions. Its not looking great for the future right this second but at least let a few weeks pass to see how everyone handles what happened.

Am I the only person here who thinks what happened wasn't really even that big of a deal anyways?

I understand why people are making a big deal out of it. The first exchange was really no big deal, just Rondo not having adjusted to not being THE MAN anymore on his team. But the reason people are worried is because Rondo apparently didn't back down from what he did AFTER Carlisle went to bat for him and stuck up for him and really downplayed it in the press conference after the game, that's why Rondo got suspended for a game.

But since then, Rondo has been saying all the right things but there was a quote that sounds worrying in terms of him staying in Dallas. It was something like "I'm committed to this team for the last 22 games of the season." To a lot of people, that sounds like he's going to put his all into the Mavericks for the rest of this season but maybe he doesn't feel like its likely to work out past then. Rondo may just need to be able to have the keys to the engine after having that for so long in Boston.

I think it was a big deal because the Mavs suspended him for one game, but not a big deal in terms of ruling out the Rondo thing ever working out

The fact that any bit of termoil in Dallas as it relates to Rondo is even a topic of discussion tells you all there is to know about him. Good luck going forward if he/you decide to continue the relationship.

This happens plenty, I will admit i have been a big fan of his over the years. Also take what comes out of the Boston airwaves to be nonsense. Mostly they are awful.

lol, I'm sure you were singing the same tune about him when he was your team's best player the last time you actually had a decent record

I have never and will never be a fan of Rondo as a player. But go ahead and believe what you want. What the Celtics record has to do with any of this is beyond me, but since you mentioned it.

The Celtics had a better record without Rondo in the lineup after Ray, Paul, and KG left.

Not a coincidence. He's your problem now, though. Enjoy!

I see it as a bigger deal bc Rondo being a headcase has been known but not in the spotlight for a while now. It's part of why he isn't still in Boston and I believe it's why his game will never grow. After the big 3 left it was always about him getting healthy and then getting some help. When the excuses start to run out, you start looking at other things and I think his attitude is front and center.

I'll also vouch for areobee here. Way back when people were calling Rondo the best PG in the game, he was on the side of telling people to calm down.

And yet the supposedly much improved minus Rondo Celtics still can't get into the top 8 in the weak *** East.

They're at about the same place standings-wise as they were before Rondo was traded.

My issue is acting like Rondo was the only thing holding Boston back when there has been a clear lack of talent on these Celtics teams of the past few years.

Okay, yes the Celtics are struggling to crack the playoff picture, but they are doing just fine all things considered. Not bad for a team who finished with the fourth worst record last season. Add the fact they traded away the leading scorer and starting point guard, and currently have two less wins than all of last season is nothing to be ashamed off. Team is trending in the right direction with plenty of draft picks to help acquire more talent to break them out of NBA purgatory.

Never once said Rondo was the only reason Boston was a bad basketball team. Was he part of it? Absolutely. His attitude and game were both a bad mix in Boston with what they are trying to accomplish.

It's obvious you have taken a liking to Rondo. If he works out in Dallas, great. But I don't see why you are being so defense for. Nothing said in this thread hasn't already been said about him before. Was simply pointing out butting heads with his new coach was nothing new. Something any Dallas fan should take into consideration if he does in fact play there after this season.

Who said he was holding the Celtics back? They sucked with him and they suck without him. If anything there have been people running around here talking about how great he was, yet the Celtics never seemed to benefit from this greatness without 3 future HOFers on the court with him. It's really not an evaluation of the Celtics either way, it's an evaluation of Rondo.
