    Edgerrin James has my respect

I'll admit, I completely stereo-typed Edgerrin James. Coming from "The U", the gold teeth (now since removed), and the dreadlocks all pointed to the "thug" persona.

Boy was I wrong. After reading the linked article below I am a gigantic Edgerrin James fan. I had no idea what he was going through with his home life and how admirable a father and boyfriend/common law husband he was/is. It's good to see a star athlete realize what is really important in life.

I wish him nothing but the best in Seattle and I'll be rooting for him all season.

Great stories like this almost never air on BSPN or other sports shows on tv. Edgerrin truly has made me more of a fan of his than I already was. Great story and strength from EJ.

It's a cool article but it's kind of sad that we're at a place where an athlete taking care of his kids first is seen as a break from the norm.

^fer sure. Hey, check out Warrick Dunn's book. That too is deep. If you don't already know how great a guy he is, that'll tell you.

I don't think that it's a break from the norm we just never hear about the players who take care of their kids we only hear about the Travis Henry's of the league.

If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)

Damn. I definitely respect him more now, as well. I hope he plays great for SEA this year and leads the league in rushing.

Agree he was one of the few guys who worked hard and relished staying out of trouble..His work ethic as well as his generosity is legendary in Miami...Funny I never looked at him as having a "thug persona"..he looked like where he grew up...part of the culture..

No doubt but thats my point.

It should be almost assumed these cats take care of their kids. Guy at dinner tonight was trying to talk up Brad Pitt for devoting 3 days a week to his kids and I just didn't get it. Guy is never have to work a day agian rich and I'm suppose to identify with him giving the nanny a break from raising his kid?

These are crazy days when being a good dad is how people get talked up in the press.

Great story. Edge is definitely a guy I'll be rooting for. This year and when he comes up for HOF consideration.

Thanks for sharing the story. Its a shame we don't get more of these from sports news. If the NFL wants to promote its league & image so much, why don't they provide us stories like this on their dot com & network?

I totally agree with you they should put this on ESPN to show some football fans that these guys do care bout other things then football! also this is a great story for it really makes the NFL seem really good for the morals the players have.

Taking care of your kids is the norm though why should espn be praising guys for it? I mean if he adopted 10 orphans in Africa then yeah give him some praise, sure.

Thanks to the sports media, if you polled people about what was normal for the pro athelete, it wouldn't be like Edge's story. It would be a pot-smoking, coke head, deadbeat father, "making it rain" w/his gun-toting entourage in strip clubs while getting drunk on beer flavored w/steroids.

If they are going to put a bull's eye on every negative, fairness would call for them to put attention on the positive as well.
