Just got my HKS Racing Controller

My HKS racing controller came in the mail last night and I played with it for about an hour on F1 2010 and GT5.

First impressions -- this thing is solidly built and well made. On F1 2010, I had to configure the controller to suit the game and it is way better than using the standard PS3 controller as my steering was less jerky as was my braking. My initial problem was getting used to the controls as I found myself going back to the left joystick for steering (which is still better than the PS3's left joystick) and using L2/R2 for throttle/brake. It's just a matter of me getting used to it. GT5 played right out of the box and there is a nifty button on the bottom which lets you switch between NFS and GT configurations.

Other things: This is not wireless and I already knew that. It comes with approx. a 10 ft cord. Not a problem for me, but others may not like it. Also, I don't see the point of the digital throttle display as throttle comes from feel and not looking down on how wide open you are. I guess they needed to fill the space and used a little eye candy to do it.

All in all, this is a keeper. Way better than the PS3 controller and a good compromise between controller and wheel. Sorry for the ambiguous review, but I only played for an hour. It now becomes a question of getting used to it.

Finally, as someone who's done a lot of sim racing, nothing, and I repeat NOTHING, beats the feel of a solid and well made racing wheel as your controller when it comes to racing games. My PS3 currently resides in the guest room and there is no place to put one -- so the HKS is a good compromise. My Logitech Momo is currently hooked up to my PC and since I only have a Pentium 4 (stop laughing), it can't play the current crop of racing games. My goal for next summer is to build a high-powered PC and when the Momo quits, get anything with a clutch pedal (G25/G27).

Thanks.

Really? Bubba where did you get it from? Every place I've seen it says 12/6 or later as a ship date.

Got it off ebay from a vendor in California. Same company that is selling them on Amazon I believe.

Yeah, I have no room for a wheel anymore. This looks like it is perfect for me. I will be picking it up next week.

Re: Just got my HKS Racing Controller

This looks cool, definitely think I'll give it a try especially since I love racing games but don't have the money/space/desire to buy a wheel.

Do you know if it can be made to work on the PC for PC racing games (specifically NR2K3)?

Re: Just got my HKS Racing Controller

Sweet Bubba, let us know how you turn out with it with more hands on please?

This sounds to be a definite alternative for those who can not get a wheel due to money or space allotment.

Considering most are saying their driving lines, breaking and throttle response have all improved over a standard controller.
