Yeah, just read about the qualifying changes. Unlike the proposed Chase changes, I do like those. It'll definitely make things more interesting. I'm assuming they're still going to be using the top 35 in owner points locked in rule.

They haven't used the top 35 locked in in a couple of years now.

1 year actually. It was a rule change for 2013.

Re: Official NASCAR 2014 Moves And Updates

Yea, they went back to the old way, sort of, I think. There were provisional spots, and I think there might have been a way to make sure the big names didn't miss the race, but since only 43/44 showed up each week, there was never a danger that someone like Jr. would miss a race.

Ok, it was top 36 on speed, next 6 were available on owner's points, which virtually guarantees no major name will miss the race, and then 1 champion's provisional.

This is some kind of joke right? Seriously NASCAR is not the NFL or MLB or NBA. This is one of the worst ideas I ever seen.

So points dont really matter any more? Only 4 cars will race in the last race? Huh?!?!

4 guys have a chance at the championship in the last race, which I'd be hard pressed to find a year where more than 4 were in the title hunt outside of 1992, chase or not. Although we've had more parity in recent years (18, 15, 17 different winners the last 3 years), we could wind up in a scenario where you are letting in someone in the teens in points because you have to fill spots and the top 10 has winners.

And you also have the chance of letting in part time teams. They aren't going to suddenly up and decide to run the final 10 when they know their chances might be slim. I doubt the Wood Brothers in 2011 run the final 10 if they are in the Chase. I wouldn't give a Front Row car much of a chance over 10 races even if they do run every race. Ragan finished 26th, 29th, and 25th in the first 3 Chase races last year. I mean, ok, can't hurt to give them a shot, but the first time a David Ragan gets in and Jr. gets left out like would have happened in 2013, they go change it again.

Actually, Jr. makes it last year as #16 because Stewart wouldn't have qualified. Hamlin probably would still get in because he at least recovered in time from his injury.
