Pregame
Navy's option attack ran over us last year and we lost 31-14. Like last year, we know their gameplan, it's just a matter of if we can tackle.

Senior HB Daylan Phillips is now an impact back.

Game Summary

Our offense started the game right. On our first possession we drove 61 yards in 10 plays. QB Eric Herbort went in from the 1 yard line on a QB sneak to get the early lead. On Navy's next drive I almost had a heart attack on the sideline, CB Kevin Rivers went to the ground injured grabbing his knee. It doesn't appear to be serious, but he suffered a MCL sprain and he should be ok for next week's game.

Our defense played well the 1st quarter holding off Navy's option attack. The 2nd quarter started with another AF injury. This time SS Chris Thomas hit his head on the ground during a tackle and suffered a minor concussion. He was held out for the rest of the game, but also should be fine for next week's game. With Thomas out, our defense was slightly off and Navy got their option rolling. They reeled off 9 plays for 59 yards and a FB J.Forbes 7 yard TD run to tie the game at 7.

We traded field goals before the end of the half and went into the locker room, Navy 10 - AF 10.

HB Daylan Phillips has not been reliable in space catching the football. Here he drops a screen pass trying to run before securing the ball in the first half.

We started the 2nd half with a spark and retook the lead Navy 10 - AF 17.

AF QB Eric Herbort finds SR WR Spencer Armstrong cutting across the middle of the field on a play action pass for a 44 yard TD.

Navy's day was effectively over after the next drive. Navy QB K.Kaheaku was hit by AF ROLB H.Altman after releasing a pass. Kahkeau was in serious pain and looked to have hurt his back. He needed help getting off the field and is probably out for at least 4 to 6 weeks. Altman's hit was a bit late, but not penalized.

Like the 1st half for AF, injuries came in pairs for Navy in the 2nd half. AF HB Daylan Phillips broke Navy MLB Scott Darby's elbow after running over him in the 4th quarter. Darby will be out the rest of the year for Navy.

The rest of the 4th quarter belonged to AF freshmen LOLB Jeff Sisk.

A 4 star athlete recruit for AF, #53 Jeff Sisk has the potential to be a dominating presence on the outside for AF. Sisk runs a 4.46 40, can bench 336 lbs, and squat 555 lbs.

Sisk would intercept two of Navy backup QB J.Bryant's passes in the 4th quarter to seal the Falcons' win.

AF LOLB Jeff Sisk gets his 2nd interception of the day reaching in front of the Navy receiver.

We went on to score 10 in the 4th on a R.Harrison 48 yard field goal and a D.Phillips 1 yard run at the goal line for the 17 point rivalry victory.

AF Stars of the game
QB Eric Herbort - 144 passing yards and a TD plus 42 yards and a TD on the ground. Hopefully this one is a confidence builder for a kid that has been struggling lately.
LOLB Jeff Sisk - Once again Jeff shows his potential by snagging 2 picks to help put the clamps down on any Navy comeback.

Postgame
We rebounded very well from our 45-10 thrashing against CSU. Unlike last year where we pretty much looked to Chad Hall to get things done whenever possible on offense, this year everyone has to contribute. Everyone did today. Add in a very good performance by our defense and we got wins in 2 out of 3 games in this home stretch.

Freshmen ILB Andrew Townsend is slowly cementing his role as starter, he had 8 tackles today and now has 18 on the year.

HB Daylan Phillips continues to drop passes and he wasn't all that effective running the ball. Neither was his backup freshmen Jeremy Melton. Depending on how things go in practice this week, I may give some of the freshmen further down the depth chart some carries next week at 3-3 UNLV.
