Rivalry Game, Battle for the Ram-Falcon Trophy (2007 CSU 23 - AF 20) October 4th, 2008, 8:00PM, MWC Game Colorado State(1-3) at Air Force(2-1)[2-0] Regional TV Clear, 49F, 4mph Injuries AF - None CSU - CB W.Francis(10 weeks), C T.McDermott(8 weeks) Air Force Team Leaders QB E.Herbort 40-68, 456 yds, 3 TD, 2 Int HB D.Phillips 50-228 yds, 4.6avg, 1 TD TE K.Madsen 9-141yds, 2 TD ROLB H.Altman 26 Tkl LE J.Paulson 3 Sk CB K.Rivers 2 INT CSU Team Leaders QB B.Farris 76-140, 844 yds, 4 TD, 5 Int HB K.Bell 96-655 yds, 6.8avg, 6 TD WR D.Morton 26-297 yds, 3 TD LOLB S.Patterson 21 Tkl RE T.Hill 2 Sk SS M.Pagnotta 1 INT Prospects visiting -2 MLB Desmond Glover **, 5-11 211, Raleigh NC, #941, DUKE, TOL, SMU 40 4.54, bench 295, squat 535, Awr A+, AcPrstg Int Very High Talk to profs, Discuss depth chart, Visit trophy room Good numbers for a ** guy. Pregame The Battle for the Ram-Falcon Trophy. Last year we lost this on a CSU field goal with 22 seconds left in the game. Despite being 1-3, CSU has a good team stat wise. This will be a major test of our run defense. Game Summary We had trouble stopping CSU all day. Early on the defense contained CSU HB Bell, but we couldn't hold their passing attack. Later in the game once we started slowing down their passing game, their run game caught fire. CSU led 27-0 at the end of the first half. CSU HB K.Bell went was injured midway into the 2nd quarter, he appeared to suffer a concussion and did not return. The only AF highlight came early in the 3rd quarter after another CSU TD. Backup HB Jeremy Melton caught a pass out of the flex, broke 2 tackles and raced 71 yards for the score to at least avoid a goose egg on the score board. That was it for the AF offense today. CSU's final score of the day. 4th string HB, FR Doug Cronin may have suffered a broken rib in garbage time late in the 4th, he will miss at least 2 weeks. HB Jeremy Melton - 71 yard reception for TD. Postgame The major test for our run defense? Yeah, we failed the test giving up 209 on the ground. After seeing SR backup QB Shea Smith play, I may be quicker to yank Herbort if he is struggling. Smith played well coming off the bench in the 2nd half. Freshmen HB Jeremy Mitchell may see more time too after 4 very good runs in the 4th quarter. HB Daylan Phillips let Herbort down time after time with dropped passes in the flat. He may be dropping his way out of the starting job. Guys are on notice, one more game like that and things will change. Next week is another rivalry game, this time vs. Navy. ------------------------------------------------------ Local Headlines Falcons lose a tough home game against Colorado State. - Air Force falls to 2-2[2-1] in MWC play, following loss to Colorado State. Like last year, we know their gameplan, it's just a matter of if we can tackle. Senior HB Daylan Phillips is now an impact back. Game Summary Our offense started the game right. On our first possession we drove 61 yards in 10 plays. QB Eric Herbort went in from the 1 yard line on a QB sneak to get the early lead. On Navy's next drive I almost had a heart attack on the sideline, CB Kevin Rivers went to the ground injured grabbing his knee. It doesn't appear to be serious, but he suffered a MCL sprain and he should be ok for next week's game. Our defense played well the 1st quarter holding off Navy's option attack. The 2nd quarter started with another AF injury. This time SS Chris Thomas hit his head on the ground during a tackle and suffered a minor concussion. He was held out for the rest of the game, but also should be fine for next week's game. With Thomas out, our defense was slightly off and Navy got their option rolling. They reeled off 9 plays for 59 yards and a FB J.Forbes 7 yard TD run to tie the game at 7. We traded field goals before the end of the half and went into the locker room, Navy 10 - AF 10. HB Daylan Phillips has not been reliable in space catching the football. Here he drops a screen pass trying to run before securing the ball in the first half. We started the 2nd half with a spark and retook the lead Navy 10 - AF 17. AF QB Eric Herbort finds SR WR Spencer Armstrong cutting across the middle of the field on a play action pass for a 44 yard TD. Navy's day was effectively over after the next drive. Navy QB K.Kaheaku was hit by AF ROLB H.Altman after releasing a pass. Kahkeau was in serious pain and looked to have hurt his back. He needed help getting off the field and is probably out for at least 4 to 6 weeks. Altman's hit was a bit late, but not penalized. Like the 1st half for AF, injuries came in pairs for Navy in the 2nd half. AF HB Daylan Phillips broke Navy MLB Scott Darby's elbow after running over him in the 4th quarter. Darby will be out the rest of the year for Navy. The rest of the 4th quarter belonged to AF freshmen LOLB Jeff Sisk. A 4 star athlete recruit for AF, #53 Jeff Sisk has the potential to be a dominating presence on the outside for AF. Sisk runs a 4.46 40, can bench 336 lbs, and squat 555 lbs. Sisk would intercept two of Navy backup QB J.Bryant's passes in the 4th quarter to seal the Falcons' win. AF LOLB Jeff Sisk gets his 2nd interception of the day reaching in front of the Navy receiver. We went on to score 10 in the 4th on a R.Harrison 48 yard field goal and a D.Phillips 1 yard run at the goal line for the 17 point rivalry victory. Navy 10 - AF 27 Navy offense 265 rush 35-175 pass 8-19-90 3rd 5-12(41%) QB Kaheaku 3-6-55, 13-110rush (INJURED) QB Bryant 5-13-35, 3 INT FB Forbes 19-69, 3.6avg, 1TD FB Campbell 1-10 HB Oswald 1-23rec WR Thiel 2-23 WR Barnes 2-21 TE Kettani 1-13 AF offense 286 rush 28-142 pass 11-21-144 3rd 9-16(56%) QB Herbort 11-21-144, 1TD, 51%, 7-42rush, 1 TD HB Phillips 16-46, 2.8avg, 1 TD, 2 Drops HB Melton 9-22, 2.2avg FB Glover 5-29, 5.8avg, 1-18rec WR Armstrong 2-46, 1TD, long 44, YAC 23 TE Madsen 3-37, long 17 WR Davis 2-28 WR Hemphill 2-15 ILB Townsend 8 Tkl, 1 Tfl RE Kemp 6 Tkl, 4 Tfl, 2 Sk LOLB Sisk 4 Tkl, 2 Int K Harrison 2-2 FG, long 48 AF Stars of the game QB Eric Herbort - 144 passing yards and a TD plus 42 yards and a TD on the ground. Hopefully this one is a confidence builder for a kid that has been struggling lately. LOLB Jeff Sisk - Once again Jeff shows his potential by snagging 2 picks to help put the clamps down on any Navy comeback. Postgame We rebounded very well from our 45-10 thrashing against CSU. Unlike last year where we pretty much looked to Chad Hall to get things done whenever possible on offense, this year everyone has to contribute. Everyone did today. Add in a very good performance by our defense and we got wins in 2 out of 3 games in this home stretch. Freshmen ILB Andrew Townsend is slowly cementing his role as starter, he had 8 tackles today and now has 18 on the year. HB Daylan Phillips continues to drop passes and he wasn't all that effective running the ball. Neither was his backup freshmen Jeremy Melton. Depending on how things go in practice this week, I may give some of the freshmen further down the depth chart some carries next week at 3-3 UNLV. Post game prospects committed -1 MLB Jeff Stewart **, 6-3 231, Commerce City CO, #1819, AF, KSU, HAW 40 4.73, bench 342, squat 595, awr A-, AcPrstg Int Most Jeff liked what he saw at our rivalry game and committed to AF. ------------------------------------------------------ Local Headlines Air Force cruises to a 27-10 victory against rival Navy. - Falcon's last win against navy was in 2002. We have the #63 pass defense. This probably adds up to a 300+ yard passing day for UNLV QB Rocky Hinds. UNLV crushed SDSU 62-37 last week. After winning 2 out of 3 at home, our average attendance at Falcon Stadium was up to 46,064. An increase of 16,000 and only 6,000 short of capacity. I had no expectation of doing this well this early. HB Daylan Phillips had a good week of practice and will start. He knows the coaches aren't happy with his inability to catch passes, but at this point I'm not going to mess with things when we are winning. Game Summary UNLV's turnovers were the story of the 1st half. 2 interceptions and a fumble got the Rebels off to a shaky start. We could only turn the fumble into points though. We only had to go 18 yards and scored on a Daylan Phillips 4 yard TD run. UNLV kicked a field goal in the first and second quarters to make the halftime score, AF 7 - UNLV 6. We traded field goals early in the 3rd quarter, and UNLV finally got into the endzone on a 21 yard HB D.Peeples run. UNLV went for the 2 point conversion to go ahead by a TD, but did not make it. The 4th quarter started AF 10 - UNLV 15. We would start the 4th quarter with a 11 play, 57 yard drive for a TD that included a converted 4th and 3 at the UNLV 37. AF QB Eric Herbort finds WR Matt Davis for a TD after the play action fake. AF goes up 17-15. With plenty of time still left in the game, coach Tiger knew their 2 point lead would not hold up, so he did not pack the offense in just yet. AF WR Matt Davis dives to catch a 30 yard 3rd down pass to keep the AF drive alive. AF would score on this drive. HB Daylan Phillips would get his 2nd TD of the day with 5:04 left. The score was AF 24 - UNLV 15. With some excellent play by AF CB Kevin Rivers and the rest of the defense, UNLV was held out of the endzone for the rest of the game. Postgame I don't know what it is, but there is something to this team. We just find ways to win. I had thought about shuffling the depth charts after nearly every game this year, but there is no way I'm going to mess with a team this hot. We don't really have any true stars or go to guys on offense, but yet we're 4-2 overall and 3-1 in the MWC at the half way point. Next week we go to #13 and 6-0 TCU for a Friday night game. TCU has the #2 ranked defense only giving up 188 yards per game on average. We should find out a lot about our team next week. ------------------------------------------------------ Local Headlines Air Force's MWC tour rumbles through Las Vegas with a 24-15 victory. - Air Force walks off with a 24-15 victory over UNLV. Re: Air Force Academy Falcons(restarted) (ncaa08)
This may be on hold now, my 360 just cracked my ncaa disc
I couldn't figure out why it wouldn't boot up anymore until I saw a tiny crack at the center of the disc running out about 1/4 of an inch. |
