    Official Carolina Panthers thread

Not in Charlotte anymore but I'll still go ahead and start this up. My outlook for this season is 7-9 wins, maybe or maybe not the playoffs. I can't buy into the offensive situation as it is, because Delhomme is going downhill and neither Foster nor Williams are stepping up. Still no tightend. O-line is suspect but should be better than last year, hopefully. Unfortunately Kenyatta Walker was signed and he may be one of the worst lineman I've seen in recent memory.

The D-line and LB core doesn't pose as much of a threat as they did in past years as Jenkins is above average at best, Morgan will get hurt again, and the rest of the LBs are just OK. Beason might or might not be the answer. Minter retiring was for the good of the team, but I still think Gamble is terrible and don't trust the secondary to make any big plays. Lucas is good if he can stay on the field, but aside from Peppers there just isn't a dominant defensive player.

I just don't have that good feeling like I did before 2005.

    Prediction: 8-8

You mean they'll score 79 points?

I think 9-7 or 10-6 may be a possibility. I hope so, anyhow.

To be honest every single player on the team sucked this preseason, so I haven't been able to make much distinction. He's lined up for a starting safety spot, so we'll see week one.

                  Re: Official Carolina Panthers thread

The offense doesn't scare anybody. Steve Smith is the only true "playmaker" we have on offense and if the QB can't get him the ball it'll be a mute point. I think if Delhomme struggles badly to start the season, Carr could be starting by week 6. It is pretty hard to get excited about the offense. I do like our O-Line depth with Ryan Kalil now starting @ RG. TEs Jeff King and Dante Rosario stepped up just enough to earn roster spots and I hope the new offense will use them for more than blocking.

On defense the thing that jumps out to me is the lack of QUALITY depth at LB. I knew Safety would be a concern coming in, and I hope Harris will be solid and don't know what to expect from FS this year. Behind the starters the only quality backup @ LB is Jon Beason and I'm dissapointed that he didn't earn a starting job after being a 1st round pick. We seem to be very deep @ DE this year and OK @ DT if healthy. I'm pretty comfortable with Gamble, Lucas, and Marshall in the secondary.

I hope rookie Rine Robninson can give us a consistent return threat and I'd like to see Deangelo Williams do the same. Kicker and Punter seem to be solid again this year.

I'd say 8-8 or 9-7 is about where I see them finishing.

I actually think Jake Delhomme will bounce back and have a decent year. If he can get some run support from Deshaun Foster and Deangelo Williams, it would open up the passing game a lot more.

Ok well we just placed TE Michael Gaines on IR and released T Rashad Butler and G Will Montgomery then signed T Frank Omiyale, TE Marcus Freeman, QB Matt Moore off waivers. So that leaves us a little thinner on the O-Line but does give us a 3rd QB after Basanez had to be put on IR.

Panthers signed Marquand Manuel and Dante Wesley for secondary depth. Good move IMO.

Just to go along w/ this :

"In corresponding moves, the Panthers waived cornerback Curtis Deloatch and wide receiver Chris Horn."
