    PS2 Impressions thread

I noticed that there isn't a thread dedicated to the PS2 version yet. So I thought I'd create one. Here are a few questions, I have for anyone that has the PS2 version.

    - Are there throwing errors this year? Last year there were none. Are the errors more realistic in number. Last year I think I had about 3 errors in 162 games.

    - Are there many new animations this year?

    - Are the batting and running mini games in RTTS like the PS3 version?

    - Do we still have HR derby, King of Diamonds and classic stadiums?

    - Is there any day to night lighting transitions like PS3?

    - Are the new fielder routes, hot shots included? More variety of doubles (down the line, over fielders head) not just gappers like last year?

    - Are there in game saves?

    Thanks.

P.S. Mods can you make this a sticky?

I unfortunately don't have all the specific answers you're looking for, but my buddy picked up the PS2 version (he's a 360 guy) today. just talked to him on AIM and he's saying it's awesome, and the gameplay feels as good as it did on the demo for the PS3.

Ironically, my first exhibition game (as Mets vs. Nats), a routine grounder and Reyes threw too high to Delgado and Milledge was safe (in the first inning, he stole second...Nick Johnson grounded into a DP then Milledge scored on a Dunn base hit, )

There were maybe 2-4 fielding errors by the CPU's infield though, in one game.

Have only played one game though, so not sure how frequent they are.

I had the opposite for me. Have played 2 games thus far and have had no errors for human or cpu. Won one and lost one playing on All-Star.

Side note: Did you put Dunn on the Nats on your own or is the roster update fixed?

Ya itd really be great to get some more insight. I'm really on the fence of getting this for ps2 but I need some more info. Does it include the legend mode? ... New features in rtts and franchise?... Is the batting altered like the ps3 version? Stuff like this would be awesome to know thanks!

Is anyone else experiencing choppy frame rate when the ball is put into play? I mean its not MLB 07 bad, but its much worse than last year...at least for me it is. I have an old fatty PS2 so maybe thats it.

Somebody out there has to give us some PS2 impressions. Is it a big upgrade from 07? Does it support 480p? Are all the new unis and stadiums in the game? Can I play minor league games in exhibition?......or just basic gameplay impressions.

                            Re: PS2 Impressions thread

OK, I will try and help you guys out Picked up the game today and have only had time for 1 1/2 games (had jury duty of all things today. Thankfully it was my one and only day of service) and here's what I've seen so far:

-Player models look good, I think. Some guys faces like David Wright are spot-on. I'm sure there will be guys who are way off, but so far, everyone looks close to their real-life counterpart.

-Stadiums look nice. Played at Coors Field and Citi. The waterfalls activate when hitting a HR at Coors, so that was cool to see.

-I've seen a nice variety of hits. Had a nice double down the line with Beltran, a few gappers, some hits through the hole, hard shots up the middle, towering HR's (had a cool HR with Tulo off the LF foul pole).

-There are less hits than last year. I had 9 my first game and 6 through 6 innings of the second. AI had 10 hits and 5 in the other game. I use Guess Pitch, but only on first pitch, 2-0, 3-1 and 3-0 counts.

-There is Legend difficulty but I haven't tried it yet. I've only played All-Star and will try HOF next.

-No In-Game Saves, which is a little bit of a bummer for me. There is a Supersim feature for those that like that option.

-Rosters were available for download when connected to the Internet.

-Fielding; didn't see any errors/overthrows things like that but did see Murphy of the Mets try and make a running catch and drop the ball. He extended, had the ball, dropped it and his momentum carried him forward into a summersault; cool animation.

-Cut-scenes are well-done and there's an attempt at some real-time atmosphere as well. Not at 2k's level, but it's there. I saw Giles adjust his jock strap at first base. So cool I had to laugh!

-Pitching is the same as last year from what I can tell. Very responsive. I've got API turned on.

That's all I've got so far. I haven't touched sliders yet, aside from turning pitch speed down a few clicks. Game plays GREAT out of the box.

Hope that helps. I'll post more tomorrow after I get some more games in.

So, nobody else is on the PS2 version, huh? Surprised to see that even the PSP version got an impressions thread.

Hopefully we'll hear from more people.
