id like to hear one person say why the admiral shouldnt be in the HOF
If you start letting a player who won all 3 college player of the year awards, rookie of the year, an MVP, 2 championships, was first team All NBA 4 times, other teams 6 times, and All Defense 7 times into the Hall of Fame, where does it stop?
The next thing you know, people will start wanting guys like Larry Bird in the Hall. SMH
I was like a freshman in HS when the Admiral graduated from Navy and had to serve. At the time I confidently told all my goons that "he's gonna be a bust in the NBA!" My whole theory was he was a huge guy playing in the Patriot League, against a bunch of smart, rec-league types. "Wait till he plays with the big boys" I said....
Glad I was wrong. I really like him.
On another note, my other big whiff was when Bobby Brown left New Edition for a solo career..."That's the last you will ever hear of him" I said....
Wow, I did indeed do a double take when I heard that Robinson was going to be enshrined in Springfield. Robinson was one of the most overrated players of his generation. His scoring reportoire was limited as he would predictably drive left and give a series of fakes (which rarely ever worked) but if the defender didn't bite then he would struggle to get a good look.
He may have been a great shot blocker but he was merely an average on ball defender. He was a turnover machine. Was infamous for missing clutch free throws in the playoffs (pre Duncan era). Played with no passion and was not willing to bang with other bigs on a consistent basis. Most importantly, he never won squat until Tim Duncan came aboard. But hey, he was smart, stayed out of trouble, was a nice guy, and he had great stats. He fooled the media big time. The truth is, he was always good and far from great. Certainly not Hall of Fame worthy. I group him in with Patrick Ewing as good regular season performers but chumps in the post season. Give me true Hall of Famers like Hakeem, McHale, and Duncan any day.
Why is The Admiral in the Hall of Fame but Dennis Johnson isn't?
