    Your Beloved Team

    Hey guys,

As a huge baseball fan, one of the hardest times of the year for me is opening day and putting in the newest edition of MLB the show. I know, bittersweet. Why is it so hard you ask?

As a kid growing up in a small town in Montana I never had a team to root for. I always played baseball, watched baseball, slept with my glove but never had a team to call my own. Sure, I had a couple players I liked but I never once cheered for a team. I had no hometown team, I had no reason to like anyone!

I am now grown up, working as a sports journalist for ESPN in Bristol, Connecticut. Guess what? I still don't have a team to cheer for! As opening day festivities went on all day, the office was filled with favorite team chants and gear thrown about. I was bombarded with questions about if I even liked baseball!

Well, this brings up my question. What is your favorite team and why? I would love to see the amount of Yanks and BoSox we have on the OS Boards.

And if you guys want some extra credit, give me some reasons to like your team even if it is just for this season.

Actually had nothing to do with living in Montana. My uncle was a radio broadcaster for one of their low A teams in Texas, but in Montana the closest team was probably the Twins, and my dad tried to raise me a Yankee fan and I knew I didn't want to be fan of either of those teams.

Plus I loved Eck and Rickey!

I was in Bozeman and Billings BTW.

So far a pretty even spread among teams:

Each of these teams only have 1 fan so far!
Red Sox, Yanks, White Sox, Tigers, Angels, A's, Mariners, Padres, Cubs, Brew Crew, Mets.

Nobody is taking over so far, which is probably a good thing

                          And now the Jays.

Starting paying attention in that year that seems so long ago now, 1993, when the Jays won their last World Series. The excitement up here back then was at such a high fever pitch, even my 6 year old self could notice! I remember watching highlights of Joe's victory lap around the bases after his walk-off homer.

Been waiting for another October appearance ever since.

" A small town in Montana".....Me too. College in Helena / Carroll....Havre / NMC and The U in Missoula.....played one season for the Reds in Billings....I know exactly what it is like to be a kid / fan in Montana....I grew up in the pre-cable era....got two televised games a week until the playoffs and series began...no high school baseball, any advanced level, you had to hope a town nearby had Legion...I was lucky and only had to drive 34 miles a day round trip for practice....anyway....I had no real favorite team growing up, just loved to watch any team play period, considered myself lucky to be able to watch any team play on tv. In 1978 I was on a basketball recruiting trip to Seattle.....was taken to a game....from that moment on I was a Pilots / Ms fan....and once I lived in an area that had cable...the Braves and Cubs were teams I liked also.....I could watch them with regularity so I became familiar with the players etc etc.....that "any port in a storm" theory...it was all I had access to...so I was "all in". At the present....Mariners are my team....I live in Seattle and attend every game possible, if I cant go I am watching, if I cant watch, I am listening. Baseball is a great game IMO...I root root root for the home team....

75% of the Earths surface is covered by water......the remaining 25% is covered by Ichiro.
