    Hit the CutOff Man

When throwing home should i being hitting the cutoff man or throwing directly home. also, is there a way to throw home but then hit a button to have the throw cutoff. wish this could be done to catch the runner trying to advance to second when i know the run will score.

    depends on where you are

if you are standing midway between the wall and the infield i would throw straight home, if you are any farther than that, i would throw to the cutoff

and when throwing home, press the cutoff button (R1) to have the throw cut off

For me - more often than not it's best to hit the cutoff man.

It always depends. On deep flies, yes hit the cutoff man. I can't tell you how many times I've tried to throw him out at home, to be horribly, off, and the hitter take second easily. Then a single gets him home, and it's twice as bad.

It also depends on your outfielders. If you have Rick Ankiel, you can probably do whatever you want. If you have a weaker arm in the outfield, hit the cutoff man much more often.

If you throw home, you can't cut it off. So don't do it if you don't have a chance, or if you have a marginal outfielder and you're deep.

im pretty sure pressing R1 within reasonable time allowance after pressing X will cause a fielder to cut the throw off

ive done this 3 times only, but all 3 times the throw has been cut off (and it wasnt a Damon throw... lol it was Alex Rios)

OP, really depends on who the OF is whether or not you should be hitting the cutoff man or not and also depends on how/where the ball is caught.

For myself, Ludwick and Ankiel are the only 2 guys in my OF that I throw straight thru to the catcher. Everyone else hits the cutoff man because they dont' have the strength nor the accuaracy to make the play interesting at the plate.

But it doesn't work always, right? Because I've tried it and it hasn't work for me; maybe I press L1 too late.

                          OK, thanks.

But when did you push the button, just as the ball left the outfielder hand, just before it reached the infield, when it was about to bounce?

Did you tap, press or press&hold L1?

there is no way to purposely cutoff a throw once you've decided to throw home.

You cannot cut the ball once its been released. That was confirmed early on.

I know because I was bummed to learn that.

I hope they change this for next year because in real baseball, its the middle infielder who decides if the throw should go all the way through to the base or get cut.
