It's no secret the trade AI in this game is absolutely ********.. but I didn't make this thread to complain, more so for entertainment and to share with you the worst trade I've ever seen.

First of all I'll have you know I actually turned off 'trades' before I started the season for exactly this reason but It doesn't matter on Draft day or the deadline because the CPU will make trades whether they're on or not. So I start my dynasty.. Before anything, before the season even starts, 2nd round of the draft... The Pittsburgh Penguins trade Brooks Orpik and Jordan Staal for JONATHAN TOWES AND PATRICK KANE... Both of them... For close to nothing.

Af first I was just stunned, not only was the trade horrible and senseless for Chicago.. I hadn't even played a game and the teams were already screwed up.

To the mods: I did a search but I didn't see any threads like this... sorry if it's already been done.

I just posted a thread asking if this type of thing was common with season mode, as well. I'm about 6 games into the season, and haven't seen anything goofy...yet.

Yeah I saw it, sorry I can't help you buddy.. Haven't played much of the season mode, I usually play Be A GM. Hopefully the trades are better in the season mode though.

I've read that the trades are really weird if you start at the draft opposed to the start of the regular season. I've turned off trades completely in my BAGM until the trading deadline (well, CPU trades)

In my BAP, I saw some weird ones.

Before my first season even started Edmonton traded **newly acquired** Khabibulin and Pouliot to Dallas for Marty Turco.

I was all like WTF?!

Seriously, Edmonton just got the guy this year, and before he even plays a game they trade him for TURCO??? Don't get me wrong, I like Turco... but they JUST GOT KHABIBULIN!

I'm kinda bummed that I couldn't just start GM mode with the team I have, and not have to go through all the extra garbage first.

yeah LOL my BAP dangler was drafted by Toronto and first time I play in the NHL I was on a line with Avery and Brind'amour...

Yeah I was messing around in be a gm tried to trade two ahl players and a second round pick for kane and the cpu accepted it I was kind of suprised.

I have found out just playing around with the trading that, almost any player with 1 year left on the contract can easily be traded for some AHL nothingness...Blues, Wagner+a 3rd Round for Gionta?? really? that goes through?

Yeah, I'm suprised this hasn't been addressed yet in a tuner update or patch. Hopefully soon as I really don't want to start a Dyansty until then.

Yeah I was messing around in be a gm tried to trade two ahl players and a second round pick for kane and the cpu accepted it I was kind of suprised.

It seems that you can really screw the CPU when you make 3-for-1 trades... You can get any player this way. I think they should implement a system where each team has a couple 'untouchables' i.e. Crosby, Malkin, Toews, Luongo, Lecavalier etc. There's no way any of these players will be traded in real life.

That's what they said about Tom Seaver.
I'm sure people also thought that about Carlos Santana.
How do you handle this when they are aged and you might think that the team wanted to deal them because they are no longer competitive and want to re-stock? How do you shut off the "untouchable" status down the road?

well there is a system already in place that recognizes a players status in their career i.e. prospect, prime-aged, veteran, etc. so adding something like an invisible franchise player tag would be interesting, however gretzky was traded, so anything is possible!

Gretzky wasn't traded. The U.S. Government wanted the Most Dominant Athlete in the History of Sports to play for an American team. It was either go play for the Kings, or Canada would have been forced to become the 51st State. And Janet isn't his wife. She's a CIA operative, codename Deepthroat.

That's the thing though, we're talking about a video game where none of these intangibles exist. No CPU player ever loses it's competitiveness. Sure the players become old but no matter what, 80 overall, 85, 90, 99 whether the player is 20 or 40 they still play the same.
