Yes, I am claiming this as my territory. My first matchup was obviously a Dan McCutchen versus Sean Gallagher showdown at Petco -- was there any other logical choice?
Anyway, going to bed, but I shall leave you all with a Garrett "The Legend" Jones Grand Slam (hopefully the video works by morning, or maybe 2K isn't letting videos be shown on their server yet?). I mauled the CPU Padres on Pro -- all was calm until the Pirates' explosive 10-run 7th inning. Ended up winning 10-0. Guess I'll move up the difficulty in the morning. A couple pictures of Lil' LaRoche and Blastings Milledge.
EDIT -- I removed the video from this post because it was terrible (it only captured The Legend walking around the bases and a disgruntled Edward Mujica).

As a fellow Pirates fan, it would have been wrong not to play with them first. I'll check out your question pretty soon.
I sent a PS3 copy to Steve via express mail. Hopefully he gets it by tomorrow (if he does then I'm sure he'd start posting videos).
To be fair, I would have posted in that thread if it wasn't locked. But now I get to be egocentric in this thread.
Yeah I said in my original comment I figured that might be what's up. Thanks for confirming for me though.
I'll get to that soon.
The two options are Total Control and Classic. In classic you just select a pitch and hold the button to time the effectiveness of the pitch. Does not look like there are any other options. Not sure if that's 2K8 style or not.
I won't tell you everything that's editable. Instead I'll tell you what's not. Does that work?
Throwing arm and position are not editable. Everything else (including weight) is editable. It's weird though, when I edit the weight it doesn't look like the player is changing in the edit screen, but when I edit height you can clearly see him getting taller or shorter.
I don't see any extra stuff in a sub menu beyond Batter's Eye and Pitch Aim. Pressing B doesn't give me any other options. So I don't see any zone hitting options.
And yeah I experience jaggedness in graphics, just like in every other baseball game. That said, I don't think the jaggies are as bad as they are in the demo -- though I haven't played in Yankee Stadium yet, so maybe I should play there to see (I will).
See above.
Have to play a bit more before saying overall, but I do think the throws are too zippy though, yes.
I would say there is no one that fits the Pedro or Tabata mold in the minors.
Yep, sorry to disappoint I guess?
There's a guy who is a 70 overall on the High-A Potomac Nationals who is named Randall Sanders. I'd say he's the closest thing to Strasburg since he throws gas and is better than any other pitcher in High-A in the game. He has got a fastball, splitter, slider, 12-6 curve and a changeup
They pretty much are not. I know the minors pretty well for most of the organizations and the names are not similar -- it's hard to really find many comps even for most of the top prospects on each squad.
There was a pretty spirited Ayyyyy-Ohhhh chant in the 9th when I was down 1-0 -- the PA guy was like screaming on the last one, not sure if that's a Cleveland thing or not. As for the drums, I heard a drum in the 6th inning, but I wouldn't really sum it up as the classic drumming you hear in Cleveland.
What types of things you looking for in the lighting? Day to night transition or what?

The lone run today in the Indians (me) vs. Mariners (cpu) matchup in the top of the 6th. King Felix dominated my face for 7 innings.
And here is Chone taking a header:

Krukker is rather impressive for a first-year analyst in a game. He had scouting reports for guys like Michael Brantley, Brandon League, David Aardsma -- I didn't agree with the Brantley one since I don't think too many Indians fans see the offense being built around him, but nevertheless. Gary Thorne also threw some questions at him -- one being a question/comment about Choo's strikeout numbers being kind of high considering how good of a contact hitter he is. Kruk responded by talking about Choo's strikeouts needing to come down unless the power goes up.
I also think the "Pepsi Clutch Performer of the Game" (basically player of the game I guess) might be broken. In my Pirates game last night it gave it to Milledge, which didn't make sense since GJones hit a grand slam and DCutch went 7 scoreless innings. Then in this game Jack Wilson got the player of the game for going 0-4.
It was in response to another poster, not you slugger.
I don't see any place to give a player a secondary position.
Just to clarify, I'll look into the lighting changing between at-bats and innings, not July vs. April.
They did not in the game I just played. Insted KRod just gave some love to his catcher and the camera also panned to Jeff Franc-O running in from the OF (he ended up being Pepsi Clutch Performer of the game for his game-winning RBI -- so the game actually picked a suitable candidate this game).
The camera cut away from the plate after the final out so I didn't see where the ump was at.
So in the Afternoon game I just played it was pitch black by the bottom of the 3rd -- so it might be interesting to see what a July game maybe bring about since I did it on MLB Today time, which would be April. I noticed the lighting changing mostly after half innings rather than between batters.
Fastball, changeup, screwball, knuckleball, splitter, cut fastball, 2-seam fastball, forkball, power curve, circle change, palmball, knuckle curve, slurve, eephus.
I just went to edit player and cycled through the pitches rather than creating a new player, but I assume they are the same.
Yes there is a fielding ability position attribute for each position. I changed it and it still left the player as his original position even when I zero out the original fielding ability and make another position attribute 100.
Crowd noise is all right. I feel like it's a little on the quiet side, but they do get more hot and bothered in the bottom of the 9th etc.
----------------------
Just played a Mets (me) vs. Nationals (cpu) game at Citi Field. I actually am still playing on Pro and won 1-0, so the 10-0 whooping of the Padres maybe not a sign of things to come (but obviously I have given up 1 run in three games, so it's my offense lagging behind not my pitching). I will bump it up to All-Star next game.
-John Lannan went CG 8 innings. Rigglebiddybottom probably should have pinch-hit hit for him in the 8th, but chose not to with one out and no one on. Riggleman also let Lannan swing away with a man on first and no outs in the 3rd -- he hit into a double play rather than bunting.
-A peculiar thing happened in I believe the beginning of the 7th inning. During the game you can press pause and see how much energy each pitcher has left. For whatever reason, both pitchers had energy levels that went back to 99 (both were down in the 30s around the 7th originally). Now, the pitch count still was normal and the pitches didn't get a jump in effectiveness, but it perhaps lead to Riggleman keeping Lannan in for that 8th inning at bat rather than pinch hitting for him. The energy level stayed at 99 for Lannan in the pause screen even though he was clearly laboring on the field until there was one out in the 9th (I kept checking after every out) -- he was at about 110 pitches when he finished his last inning. Santana's stayed at 99 until I pulled him when Dunn hit a two-out double in the bottom of the 9th. Santana was laboring and at 100 pitches as well on the field. Basically, it's not a big deal if the CPU doesn't go by that screen to decide when to pull a pitcher who is tiring. But, either way, something to keep an eye on.
-The slides into home crack me up. Seems like every hitter does this big slide into home base on their gut, and then it looks like they stick their head down and just eat dirt as a dirt smoke screen comes up around them.
-Citi Field had a lot of stadium-specific stuff. The airplanes were flying overhead throughout, they had a Jose chant, they had a let's go dave chant, and I heard some cowbell at one point (they do that at Citi Field?).
Here's a funny video of Santana taking a ball off his iron skull:
Then just a regular picture of Santana on the mound:

The face tool is like the one in NBA 2K10. So there are presets and then also an ability to go in and fine tune the face with the left and right analog sticks.
His name was Chance, not Chase. (If that was a play on words, then I get it, but in case you were being serious, then the more you know, GI Joe etc. etc.)
I'll answer more questions tomorrow, but just wanted to say this before going to bed:
I played an online game tonight against local douche and forum admin Millennium. First, let's get this out of the way, I trounced him. As the White Sox I struck him and his lowly Orioles out 23 times with Jake Peavy.
Pathetic.
I also mauled Brian Matusz, which clearly shows he's a bust-o prospect in the making (fight me Orioles fans). I hit four home runs (all with the power swing) and won 7-0 -- a 3-run HR and a solo HR in the first being the big reasons why. I don't think anyone should jump to conclusions and think OMG there is a home-run problem or anything -- Millennium was just that bad, and I sat fastball a couple times and he paid for me guessing right.
Anyway, the performance was solid besides a slight button lag when swinging. It's small but definitely noticeable when compared to playing offline. So, you will definitely have to adjust for that, which is unfortunate. Beyond that there was no lag and the frame rate held up well. The only other thing is the presentation seems to be turned off when it comes to the introductions before the game and the batter walk-ups etc. So it pretty much just goes from pitch to pitch and cuts out all the in between stuff. I hope there is an option to change it to have full presentation, but I'll have to look into that another time.
PS, OFer throwing speeds are insane in this game. In one inning Juan Pierre was on second and had a good lead. After a bloop hit into CF I thought Pierre would score easily, but instead Adam Jones ran onto the ball -- not even from a great angle or anything -- and gunned Pierre easily at the plate.
1. Edit them how? You can change sweatbands etc. but you can't change the Cardinals uniform so it is blue and teal.
2. I won't do too much in franchise mode, but this is easy enough to check: There is not a "League History" tab but they do keep track of MLB records and team records. But I don't see anything where they detail all the World Series champs etc. so it's not as in depth it doesn't look like.
There is Triple A, Double A, and then an A-ball squad -- it just looks like most of them are the High-A affiliates by just eying the squads (so I'm assuming all of the A-ball teams are the High-A ones).
In fact, funny enough, Pittsburgh moved their High-A affiliate from Lynchburg to Bradenton and vice versa for the Reds. In the game this is reflected, but I guess they forgot to change the team's hats, so everyone on the High-A team for Pitt has a Reds cap on in their picture on the roster screen and vice versa for the Reds.
On the team-select screen for "Play Now" I can only choose from the Double-A and Triple-A affiliates. In a franchise I can not play as the A-ball affiliate either. However, yes there are stats for those games even though you can't play them.
What would you like to know about how the minors work? Not sure what you're looking for when you say "how do they work?".
Yeah, 12-6 curve, power curve, standard curveball and knuckle curve are there.
I have not, but it's a small sample -- but yes Santana I don't think is feeling too well after that ball to the head in real life. It could be that injuries only happen in franchise mode as well, but I'm just speculating there.
I get that this is important for many folks, but I just won't be able to get to this in any detail because my sample sizes would be far too small -- especially considering the fact that all of you will have a chance to test this in a few short days and be able to come to better conclusions in a few hours (since there's kind of a lot of you) than I would be able to do if I was playing a ton of games over the next couple of days (and I just won't be playing THAT many games).
I saw you were trying to sell it for $47 dollars on Craigslist. But the ad did have the caveat that "you must be under 18 and meet me in person in the back of my '87 station wagon so I can give you the proper paperwork."
Well, I turned on a game, changed the camera, left the game, started a new one, and then the camera was still changed. It never asked me to save or anything and I can't change the camera outside of a game, but it stayed change in that scenario at least.
If the camera saves in NBA 2K10 my guess is it will save here, but I never change the camera in NBA 2K so I wouldn't know if it saves or not.
If I had any unlocked I could perhaps tell you, but none are unlocked trading cards yet.
Yeah I was looking for a way to turn it off or down and could not find one. I will get back to you on your other question, since I am about to play on All-Star soon.
They definitely are not hacking every time -- when I used Santana I had over 100 pitches in the 9th and they worked more than a couple full counts. But it does depend on the batter a good amount so some do hack early and often.
I don't think so on either account.
Is that a safe thing to say? I don't feel like I've been leaning too much one way or the other -- I've only played like 4-5 games so I tend to not champion or bash something that early on.
But what I'm most impressed by on the field is probably the pitching if we're separating the game into hitting, fielding, pitching and running.
I would give the game 10 coconuts out of 18.5 mangoes at this point. What, that doesn't answer your question?
Yeah, I don't see a Player Lock option, but there's nothing stopping you from re-creating Yuniesky Betancourt and going back through his fantastic career to this point. Just need a little imagination.
If Pierre stumbled I would not have seen it since the ball was near Jones. I don't believe there is a global editing option either to downplay the arms. How big of a concern is it at this point? Not sure.
I saw numbers on the wall at Progressive Field, but I don't see what would be there to update in real time since the season has not started. I don't believe the scores will update in real time either way this year -- I admit to not having read every line of the Franchise Insights, but I don't think it was mentioned. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong.
I answered the fielding auto assist question a few questions up in this post. I have not seen any collision or ghosting yet -- I do know they redid the animations at 2B to minimize ghosting and promote collisions and the same goes for home plate. I'll have to be on the lookout and see if two OFers smash into each other or not if I get a chance to see it.
I am not taking requests, but that might be easy enough to upload to my 2K Sports profile. I'll post again if I do it.
Before you start a franchise most of the MLB teams look in line with what you would expect -- the Rays are not at 100 million etc.
When making a trade there is something on the screen telling you how much budget room you have.
As for the logic. I put Garrett Jones (86 overall, and small contract) into the Trade Finder, and could have gotten Kazmir, A. Hill, Jurrjens, Yunel Escobar, Carlos Zambrano, Dempster, BWebb, KRod, Heath Bell, Mike Adams, Nellie Cruz, Elvis Andrus, Matt Garza, Victor Martinez, Billy Butler, Justin Morneau, Scott Baker or Mark Buehrle.
When I put Milledge (83 overall) in I could get Kazmir, Zambrano, Dempster, Webb, Adams, Nellie Cruz, Morneau, Buehrle.
There were no takers for McCutchen in the Trade Finder.
For Doumit (82 overall): Jered Weaver, Oswalt, Wandy Rod, Ricky Romero, Casey McGehee, Mat Gamel, Stephen Drew, Nolasco, Niemann, Helton, Gavin Floyd, A.J. Burnett, and a few others
For Iwamura (82 overall): Gamel, Stephen Drew, Happ, Holland, Cuddyer, Blackburn, Joba, Konerko
etc...
When I put GJones and McCutchen (87 overall) into Trade Finder together a couple of the potential deals included: Andrus, KRod, Garza, Rollins and Werth, Hamels and Rollins, Adrian Gonzalez and Heath Bell, Garza and Bartlett, Lester and Pedroia.
Clearly the game is taking more than overall into consideration during these deals but you can be the judge.
I won't get into offseason/free agency stuff right now, maybe later.
I won't look into them right now, but perhaps later.
I'll look into this when/if I do an offseason/free agency.
No, or at least I have not seen an indicator for when a mistake is being thrown. I have seen some high sinkers -- I get told to throw high sinkers from time to time as well, but when I used Santana I was told to keep the changeup down if I remember correctly.
Losers don't get a say, haven't you ever read a history book?
PS, Millennium was so distraught after his embarrassing defeat that he left me and the rest of his NHL 10 OTP squad out to try and did not play in any EASHL games with them. Luckily, we play better without him. Either way, he's a poor sport.
I have not seen high choppers or texas leaguers. I have seen bloopers and dribblers. And yes, some balls are hit off the end of the bat. The variety seems OK at this point -- not everything is a laser like you seem to be worried about.
Yes, you are correct that is what I meant.
