Yeah I hate to be that guy who has his experience kind of ruined by one thing, but that's a real bummer for me. Playing 2-player games with the lock-in pitch in 2k9 was a real task, with you constantly having to wonder if your opponent heard your controller rumble and having the game break down to a "guess if he locked on where you think he did before he swirled the cursor all over the screen" type of deal.
The good news is that everything else sounds pretty tight. A solid move in the right direction it'd appear.
