Check Swing Appeal, On or Off

Having played with this on for the last two years, I decided to experiment by turning it off with this year's game, and I'm so happy I did. I would suggest that 3/4 of my strikeouts used to come on appealed check swings even when I thought there was no way I'd gone around, with it off, I only get called on check swings where I definitely went around.

So, what are you all doing?!

I have it off because it is way too inconsistent with it on.

On. Because check swing appeals actually are fair and aren't random like last year.

If you feel you are getting called for strikes too much by the ump, raise the user contact slider. It's pretty much just a check swing appeal slider.

^^^ Exactly what he said. I raised the contact slider a bit, and it's much easier to get away with check swings. It sort of adjusts the button pressing intensity it would take to make the difference between a check and full swing. You will still occasionally get bad calls by the ump, tho...but to me, thats fairly realistic. My only complaint would be that they seem to appeal to the umpires way too much...but that might have more to do with me not being decisive and continually checking my swing, lol.

I have it off because I get tired of all the appeals.

I turned it off because I check my swing a ton. I got tired of striking out on check swings all the time.

I have it off, as I don't think it's fair. Having watched replays of swings called strikes, I disagreed with most of them. They strike me as a sort of random decision.

They also, as someone said, do it way too often, and it gets tiring.

We also don't seem to have the ability to plea to the base ump ourselves when on defense, and that seems unfair.

On for me as I feel the appeals are a lot better this year than they were last year.

Off. I felt that there was no consistancy in the appeals, basically just a coin flip.

So with check swing appeal off, does the home plate ump make all of the decisions? Basically, what happens with questionable check swings when appeals are off?

Yes the homeplate ump will make the decision. Basically with it off you really will never get called for a check swing strike though.

Off for me.....I always check swing....its a force of habit now when the pitch is close.

I have been called for check swing strikes with the appeal turned off, quite a few times in fact. Not as often for sure as with it turned on, but it does happen to me.

                              Off.

I don't see what people are calling an improvement from last year. It still seems completely random whether appeal is called a strike or not.
